LOLOLOL Slim profit margin at $500 on a 5 year old SOC on a 5 year old 8nm node with a garbage pale tier LCD? The BOM on this thing is gonna be like $200 assembled, packaged, and shipped. I don't even think Nintendo's usual Hollywood accounting (that frontloads the heavy R&D and manufacturing setup expenses instead of more fairly amortizing it over the generation's XXX million units) could pass $500 off as slim margin.
They won't go above 399. The 4 makes it look too expensive. Remember: lots of parents buy this for their kids as a present. 400 isn't present category for most parents.
Wouldn't it make more sense to compare Switch 2 against the price of other portable devices? Do we compare phones against PCs as a value per dollar test, or against other 1/4" thick hardware with with batteries and screens?
$449, which will translate to a very hard sell at €499 in Euroland. Mayyybe €479 to soften the blow a bit.
Considering inflation, specs and the competition, anything less than $399 means it’s a piece of junk. Friendly reminder that there’s $299 devices out there that can emulate Switch 1 to some extent.
