People here dislike streamers because they'd rather play games than watch people play them. You gotta remember a lot guys here are 30+ and 40+ and were relics of the old Internet that doesn't exist anymore. I appreciate GAF being around because there isn't many places that aren't Reddit or Meta driven social media these days to discuss interest.
i am 37 so i can understand that and i have been lurking on neo gaf since 2003. The reason I like asmon is because i find him funny and I agree with most of the things he says. I think most of asmons fans are older too

He is not perfect. But I like his stand against twisted woke and twisted dei. Off topic, this gen for me has worsen due to reliance in social media influencers, so many fake news and misinformation that is why there is rise on mental health issue especially the gen z. I miss those good old days that we just rely on gamers magazine and just about games and not agenda.

Person A: Says awful things that gets them banned.
Person B: Says awful things in a righteous way about the person(s) that got banned.

And the cycle goes around and around. Social media at its finest.

Ppl always been like that. Even before youtube existed, the News media was always 90% negative news (Crime, wars, scandals, etc) and about 10% positive news.
If anything youtube changed that for the better where you find alot of fun content.
No no, you're combining two different things here. Yes, the news has always reported crime more often than not in the past. That is true. What is not true is the part where you say 'people always been like that'.

In today's post-covid connected society you have actual kids and teenagers involved in topics that they normally wouldn't be, you have people who normally would date within their public circles suddenly attempting to do online dating and reaching for the stars everytime (making them increasingly angry that they don't get what the 10/10 they want), and lastly I know people personally who never once went to bat for things in college or later in life, suddenly making their entire existence about fringe political topics. All of this stuff is taking place a global scale because we're all tuned in at all times.

No my friend, this is not the norm at all from the past. Youtube had a honeymoon moment of sunshine but now we're in the thick of it.

A lot of people do. That’s why he’s blown up, much to the dismay of several posters here.

So much hate against someone who suffers with mental illness since his childhood. Like I get how you wouldn't care but some of theses posts makes you think he broke into your house and punched you in the face, jeez lol

The funny thing is I've never watched the dude live or on Twitch, because I don't have hours and hours to listen to the dude or watch him play games

I just have his Youtube channel subscribed and when he posts one of his 1-2 minute long clips and it looks interesting I'll watch that

I can't stand more than about 1-2 minutes of your average streamer, like, I have stuff to do you know?

please elon buy twitch to free the rush Limbaugh of our time (っ˘̩╭╮˘̩)っ
When you relax the rules you end up with something like the early days of Kick, and that did not go so well. Twitch has rules and while they're incredibly inconsistent when it comes to enforcing them, it'd be far worse without them.

I miss Asmongold’s WoW streaming days before he became a political commentator.

Ask me about my wife's perfect butthole
Meanwhile Hasan has praised actual Houthi Pirates and said wild things, but he's fine. Interesting.
Did he say Israeli's deserve to be genocided because they are inferior?

Honestly I wouldn't care if Hasan got banned for some of what he says, but Asmongold's rant sounds like he read the Twitch rules on this stuff and one by one violated them on purpose.

And IIRC Hasan HAS been banned for some of his more controversial statements. But talking about genociding inferior people would get anyone a perm ban, no matter which "people" they are talking about.

How can you miss someone you don't even know or haven't even been able to directly interact with?

Pr0 tip for my younger gaf-bros, there is never any need to feel sorry for rich mofo influencer, he or she would never feel any emphaty for u-avg normal human being- no matter what would happen to u.
There is plenty ppl in the world who actually suffer on a daily basis, from kids to seniors, able bodied multimilionaires, who can safely retire 10times over while still being relatively healthy/young-ish arent one of them :)

Perhaps I’m an outlier. I’m 45 years old, and I’ve been gaming since I was around 4 years old on Atari 2600 and arcade cabinets (standing on a chair since I was so little lol). I enjoy Twitch a lot. I enjoy watching some gaming streamers. People like Asmongold though, are a joke to me. I’m new here and I don’t want to get modded so I’ll save the spicier take for another time haha.

You should not worship a self-confessed deeply mentally ill man.
I don't see adhd for itself being harmful, it's his personality and I kinda could relate to his social status, he almost got no family and the way he behave proves he never got schooled from his behavior besides his dad as a male, but that's not enough cause he's only one part of his life and I understand how people react cause he got no one else as he grew up.

When I first heard the news, my initial thought was that he was probably fist pumping that he could finally retire, lay off whatever employees he has and enjoy the fruits of his labor.

asmongold is cool, lol at neckbeards here talking bad about him.
I like asmongold. He is generally quite rational and thoughtful, I also tend to agree with most of he's takes. He's commentary on most things is spot on. I think in this instance, he did come across quite hateful. I don't think he should be cancelled for it, the temp ban is justified and he probably got away with it lightly tbf.

He doesn't care about money, he won't ever spend his fortune. No kids and no wife obviously, someone will get to spend it for him. Who knows who

Is a lot of the hate coming from the fact that he has an unprecedented level of freedom? He hardly spends his money despite being rich so if he really wanted to, he could stop working and live off his wealth for the rest of his life.

..Okay 👍

his apology video seemed sincere. I never thought he was a bad guy and it was clear to me he went down the twitter/reddit rabbit hole that turned him into a meaner version of himself.

he seems smart enough to realize this and is aiming to do better.

A lot of people were quick to cancel him, but i know guys like him. they are not bad. they are just brainwashed by nonsense being peddled on social media. It was good to see muslims reach out to him and offer help instead of sending death threats. that is the way.
Thank christ there's a normal take here. I was starting to worry we'd truly turnt into Resetera

To lead a group of people you only need to know where they are heading and put yourself at the front. That's what all these influencers (Asmongold, Hasan, MoistCritical, etc) do. They check where the herd is going and they just voice their opinions louder and in a more extremist way than anyone else. Until they are blocked from a platform and lose a few hundreds of thousands of dollars.

I don't care for streamers and never understand why people spend hours watching them. Also it's absolutely ridiculous some of them get paid millions to do it, especially ones like Asmongold. That being said, I have seen some of his highlight videos on YT and generally agree with most his opinions when it comes to gaming and the industry.

Before anyone starts defending him or taking sides, watch his update.

He acknowledges that it was a fucked up thing to say.

You know that is not how things work now. You are guilty, cannot change position without looking weak or backpedaling due to money, understand that your comment was a terrible mistake, and self-reflecting on your own mistakes is not possible now and blah, blah, blah.

Jokes aside, being famous comes with the baggage that at any time you say something insensitive (which, in this case, was), people will ask for your head, and anything you do will be scrutinized to no end. "Hey people I made a mistake, I am sorry" will never cut it out because people who hate someone will be louder. They got the taste of blood they needed to attack, and will not finish until there is nothing left.

I saw some of his videos, and he looks like any other streamer with his own opinions which I agree with some, while most I do not, but each their own.

Thanks OP for making me dig deep into this thread just to know wtf you’re talking about. What a shitty thread, you should be ashamed.
