No matter if it's good news or bad news, anything coming out of IGN is …

Here let me be real…console type disregarded. The game looks like complete ass. It strikes me as boring, and will have terrible performance. No depth, no excitement pre-release, and no impact on anyone outside of your type. I hate it, but the game is being sent out to die in the wasteland of happy bunnies and winning lottery tickets 100% of the time that you've created in your head. You legitimately used to have good conversations about exclusives and the other consoles in the landscape, but to just "shut the door.gif" and not even have any kind of argument leads me to believe you are now a full blown warrior. Good luck lasting through the holidays on here. I won't bother you again with a response or reaction to your posts, because I wouldn't want to be "wrong" and disregarded. Good luck with your one or two 6.0-7.0 games exclusive to your console of choice, and please…please don't shed a tear when Forza, Halo, and Starfield go to "someone else's console". It will be okay, I promise. Bye
Disclaimer - I went to this extent with my response because all you had to reply with was a disrespectful gif. Good talk through.
Never ever believe any first impression article's. Rule number one especially when MS are involved.Yes, but as @Topher said, previews are not usually to be believed because of their curated nature. Even Redfall had positive first impressions:

Agreed, but check out Dagwaphics mate they suckI don't mind the art style at all, in fact, I think they can be more imaginative with a look like this.
Not just Microsoft, I'd say. Applies to almost all companies out there.Never ever believe any first impression article's. Rule number one especially when MS are involved.
Worse than twitter impressions for movies.
Not confirmed officially but it sure looks that way
Previews basically give the game the benefit of the doubt that the whole campaign is going to execute on its objectives, based on a small slice of gameplay. If Redfall hadn't come out severely under baked and full to the brim with bugs and technical issues, it might have been able to live up to the articles you highlighted. To me the point of previews is to figure out what the game is trying to do, not whether it will be ultimately successful. And in this case the main message seems to be that Avowed is aiming to capture the complexity of Pillars in first/third person. I think that's a decently compelling elevator pitch.Yes, but as @Topher said, previews are not usually to be believed because of their curated nature. Even Redfall had positive first impressions:
We'll see. Keep in mind they're making the PoE games similarly to the Elder Scrolls in that each game is inhabiting a specific large region.I'm not familiar with the lore of this at all, but it seems like there are going to be a lot of different biomes to explore.
Just watched the video. Horrible, horrible statement.
30 FPS is bad as is, but these statements, "you don't need 60 FPS"![]()
Yep. I bought an Xbox 360 over PS3 back in the day, because Xbox was kicking ass at that time. How badly they have keep screwed things up since then.Yeah agreed.
Starfield and Redfall vibes all over again. All this says to me is this isnt going to be ready for release either if they are already making excuses that there wont be a performance mode in for launch
MS will never learn.
Indy will be the next unfinished rush release with that Dec 9th date, book it. You couldn't cut the '25 window any closer if you tried.
God knows whats going on with xbox these days. Shame I used to really like the OG xbox/360, long gone now unfortunately.
Nobody was even talking to you. Go somewhere else trying to stir something up that was already discussed and over with.
It actually looks pretty good. I just hope it's better than Outer Worlds which was pretty mid in every way.
No need.None of this is true. I believe they pitched Avowed to MS as part of the reason for the buyout.
I'll have to see if I can dig out the quote if you want receipts.
It doesn't matter what they pitched, or what they, as developers, want to do. What matters is what the publisher wants them to do. NRS can want to make any game they like - if WB tells them they are making Mortal Kombat 2, 3 and 4 in a row, that's exactly what they are going to do. And telling Obsidian to go forward with their pitch to make a Skyrim-esque game when they (MS) have the real thing seems like a waste of resources to me, when their IP began (and continued) as a homage to the original Baldur's Gate games. You cannot understand things you made up?
Weird. Because nobody told Obsidian to make a Skyrim game. And you must be the last person on GAF to know that this game is more akin to Outer Worlds in scope than Skyrim.
No need.

...but is it fun?Being honest, it really doesn't look that great. It looks very dated and janky.
No, YOU are the one who isn't listening. Again, the publisher decides whether they will allow Obsidian to go along with their pitch. It's up to MS to tell Obsidian to go nuts or make the game MS think it would be better to see Obsidian make.Your not listening, this is the game obsidian wanted to make.
You're saying its MS' fault for bailing them out financially and letting them make the game they wanted to make instead of bailing them out and getting them to make a game they didn't?
What exactly would you like to see from them?
You're just straight up pulling shit out of your arse.

Obsidian wanted to make a Skyrim-esque game. Cool.
Microsoft already HAS the REAL deal. Instead of buying a dev who makes Baldur's Gate games (which are proven to be decent at the LEAST), they gave Obsidian years to make a game in a genre they were never tested in making (a Skyrim clone), while MS already HAS Skyrim, and ES6 in the oven.
It's like me buying Capcom (and the Resident Evil IP by extension), and I also buy Larian, and instead of telling Larian to make Divinity Original Sin 3, Sven comes in and tells me he wants to make a survival horror game with a shoulder-view cam with zombies and mutated animals. And I tell him, 'yeah, ok'. ..... why? I already have Resident fucking Evil.
PoE3.Ill ask again, what do you think they should be doing?
PoE3.
Is Avowed actually a Skyrim-clone though? From what we've been told it's a zone based RPG, that's taking Pillars' focus on dialogue and combat. So it seems fairer to describe it as PoE in first/third person. No, YOU are the one who isn't listening. Again, the publisher decides whether they will allow Obsidian to go along with their pitch. No its nothing like Skyrim by the looks of things except it that posters head.Is Avowed actually a Skyrim-clone though? From what we've been told it's a zone based RPG, that's taking Pillars' focus on dialogue and combat. So it seems fairer to describe it as PoE in first/third person.

Hands-on previews in a controlled environment rarely depict the true state of the game.
The pedigree and recent past of the studio as well as how the game looks and feels like in videos are, of course, important factors as well. But I'm usually cautious when it comes to previews by "journalists" who get invited for special screenings.
No need.

I am not saying they were forced to make Avowed as it is right now. I am saying they SHOULD have been forced to NOT make Avowed with this type of gameplay and make PoE3 instead.See why it doesn't make sense for you to claim the publisher (XGS here) forced them into making a Skyrim type game when it's the same publisher that allowed them scale down the scope?
Gameplay mechanics remind me of Skyrim - the melee / magic / ranged combat that is.Is Avowed actually a Skyrim-clone though? From what we've been told it's a zone based RPG, that's taking Pillars' focus on dialogue and combat. So it seems fairer to describe it as PoE in first/third person.
Yes, why *would* I not want Street Fighter 7 to be a shoulder-view action game like God of War?No its nothing like Skyrim by the looks of things except it that posters head.
Strange that hes asking for POE3 but doesn't want to give this game set in the same universe a fair crack.

Yeah, working on a Skyrim-lite for six years with a new engine and have it day 1 on Game Pass will make sales skyrocket instead and will definitely be a better return of investment. You'd force them to can their new RPG IP, in favor of making a third installment of a game franchise that had subpar sales for the second installment?
I'm sorry, but your comments here show you know next to nothing about Obsidian. Including having to be reminded byclarky that they've made very solid first person games before.
Well it has first person melee combat with dual wielding and magic, so it is bound to look similar. But PoE differentiated itself with guns, a variety of different melee weapons like spears, rapiers, morning stars etc. and a full spell system. So far we have seen pistols, spears, staffs and possibly a blunderbuss. And the developers have said the grimoire will be used to allow the player access to a large number of spells. So it seems that the basic Skyrim type spells will come with your class, and the more involved spells that we would expect from a PoE sequel will be accessible through the grimoire.Gameplay mechanics remind me of Skyrim - the melee / magic / ranged combat that is.

let me say I watched some of the previews in here and it looks good. Great, even? Not sure where all of this "looks dated" nonsense is coming from
Pretty safe to think you'll be satisfied. They make good narrative-based RPGs.I know I'm in the minority around here but …..
I like this game. I like the art style. I like the colourful, imaginative world, the game seems to be set in. I like what I see. I can even live with playing it at 30FPS as long as I can cross save between my PCs and my Xbox.
I just want it to be a good obsidian game. I don't care if it doesn't win GOTY awards. I just need it to be a good, solid, open world, action RPG.
This is hilarious. If you think Avowed looks great, or even good, your standards are comically low.
Visually it looks nowhere near current gen.
What the fuck did they play in those previews? Because it sure as fuck wasn't Redfall.Yes, but as Topher said, previews are not usually to be believed because of their curated nature.
