Indie games were selling better on PlayStation than any other platform (2024)

A few years back, one of the reasons I got that job from Jim–we'd been criticized by the indie community. They said that PlayStation doesn't care about indies. You don't hear that kind of criticism anymore.

When I started that work five years ago, our indie partners would say that when they released their games multiplatform, the Switch version would sell three to five times more than PlayStation. Bit by bit, that gap has narrowed down.

Last year we had lots of anecdotes from our indie partners that their new games were selling better on PlayStation than any other platform. That's amazing. Some games sold better on PlayStation than on PC.

We have a strong team inside the company supporting indies

If titles sell better than on PC, it is probably because they got some free promotion like placement in the store.
That but it can also be due to certain genres being more popular on consoles, stuff like 3rd person horror games, couch coop games or plataformers (still assuming they got better marketing than just word of mouth).

Anecdotal.

Concerning consoles, indies are known to do better on Switch than on Playstation.
Steam and PC is the true indie king anyways.

Seems pretty anecdotal, also it would be interesting to know if it's because sales of indie games have actually substantially increased on Playstation...or if they have gone down on Switch.

So anecdotally some games sell better on your platform than other platform(s). I wonder if these "indie partners" got promoted on your store page too.

I'm blown away by this reveal.
