Introducing Battlefield Labs - Help shape the future of BF

The majority of my posts on this forum are in various battlefield threads over the (many) years. An absolute embarrassing amount of pointless commentary/ complaints, etc.

I cannot for the life of me even remember what you're talking about. Like, I vaguely recall the name premium but cannot remember wtf it was. I'm sure I bought it. Took me years to learn my lesson buying dumb shit for games I liked. 2042 was the final nail in this franchise's coffin for me. Fuck these assholes.
Premium was an add on they had for around $25 I think. Last game to have it was Battlefield 1 I believe. You'd get special dog tags, in game cosmetics, and all DLCs. If you preordered the game and premium together, you'd play 3 days early.

Not a big fan of microtransactions and battle passes myself, but it seemed like they were more motivated when they knew people were paying for the add on content. Battlefield V was the first without it and I think that's probably a part of the reason the game suffered. I'm with you though, Battlefield used to be my favorite franchise and after 2042, it's gonna take alot to pull me back in.

The problem with Premium is that it locked new maps behind a paywall and split the player base up.

As much as I wanna like this. I don't believe anything until I'm seeing release gameplay reviews. This looks awesome and grounded now, but release will be a buggy mess full of colorful unlocks and microtransactions. Don't give in!!!!

Personally I've enjoyed all entries at some point or anotner. BF2042 was the one that took a while but ended up pretty decent IMO.

I prefer a world where they keep trying rather than just leave it to die. Luckily buying is not obligatory.

I'll be there like every entry although maybe not day 1.

Looks like EA wants gamers to do all the work.

Given what a trainwreck 2042 was, it's actually a good idea. Gamers might be the ones acting as unpaid QA testers, but at least the core BF fanbase can (supposedly) help call the shots what needs fixing or not.

Better than what EA usually does with shooters. A beta download a month before release.

I never thought that Bf gameplay would leave me completely cold, but here we are.
Can't have soul without talent, which fucked off from dice long ago, bunch of creative rats.

Taking the team of buffoons behind 2042 and expecting something other than soulless shit is going to be the biggest fraud check of Zampellas career.

I've got a good feeling about this one and that in game snippet gave me massive BF3 vibes. Testing this game properly is exactly what it needs and hopefully pushes the game in the right direction.

Interesting. At least this seems like a real beta as opposed to a beta that's just a demo but renamed to deflect criticism. I don't expect much but I'll sign up.
Exactly. Here's hoping they actually take and apply feedback.

Seems like a lot of people have hopes BF can be fun again
Yeah. When they get it right, there's nothing else like it on the market.

The five minute video shows a bunch of dudes exited about making a great BF game, no rainbow flags in sight, everyone is normal looking, the teaser looks great with all the destruction and no specialists, BF 2042 was turned around and became fun to play... Looks like BF is returning back to form!

Yeah four studios across the globe and none of them knows how to develop a good BF game.
With the PS5 the recipe has never been simpler - build games around DualSense feedback and extreme gore.
Not being able to make a good game is understandable but with the tools at their disposal not being able to make a game that's distracting enough to entertain users is a bad sign.

My problem with conquest is that the "frontline" is completely random and scattershot.

With breakthrough there is clear frontline and the action is much more intense because of it...

That's not necessarily true, it comes down to map design. Classic Battlefield games had multiple variants of Conquest with maps specifically designed for them.

Your standard Conquest: Head-On map could devolve into a whack-a-mole experience with uncoordinated teammates, yes. But Conquest: Assault maps generally were set up in a sort of attacker/defender style where one team starts off in an entrenched position or with most of the flags already under their control and the other team (given more tickets at the start to compensate) needs to force them back. Maps like these tended to be a bit more linear so as to concentrate the action but because flags could be traded back and forth, they made for a more engaging and dynamic experience than Breakthrough or Rush can offer.

Classic example of CQ: Assault would be Strike at Karkand from BF2.

Of course, the DICE team that produced gems like BF 1942 and BF2 no longer exists, more's the pity.

i see building destruction is back....its about damn time
Looks amazing. Massive destruction a la Bad Company 2 is back and Im all for it.
??? so...look, I'm not trying to be a fucking bitch or anything, but when has that left for it to be um "back"? What they are showing looks good, but nothing we've seen looks any different then what they can do in 2042 as that had physics based destruction. So I'm not saying don't be hyped, shit I'm hyped and this is a day 1 for me, merely at the very least KNOW what those new or returning features are first.

I can show you a fucking 2 second click of a tank going thru a house and you'd say this shit (not knowing I'm literally fucking showing you footage of 2042)

So far, I've yet to see the new features in terms of destruction as this looks like the physics based stuff that we see in 2042......

So we'll need a more deeper look to see those new destruction features as all the new BF titles have had them if you followed the IP.

This was never a thing that left to be "back" , it was also added on to as each BF got more and more complex with this feature, as to why you can drive a tank 100% thru a building in BF 2042, yet can't in BF1 or something or BF1 having destruction features that don't exist in BFBC2 or BF4 etc.

So I need to see more to see those new features, what they are showing isn't new to some of us who play the IP currently.

Yooo I feel like people are glazing over this.

Did he leave Respawn or is this a big promotion for him?
Both ReSpawn and DICE are owned by EA. I would say this is a massive promotion for him as he is overseeing a massive IP across several studios...

Give me

- Assymetrical factions (and with this I mean both vehicles and starting weapons)
- Spawing vehicles in the base instead of it being UI based, I want skilled players taking off and landing planes and helis
- Fortifications and attrition from BFV to force more teamplay
- Limited air-missile locking mechanisms, make players work for it instead with tools like the tracer gun from BFBC2 for example
- Client-side option to toggle skins off, I want generic looking armies, not a fucking fashion parade in the middle of a warzone
- Dynamic destruction in which the rubble can serve as cover
- Long ass maps made to fit Rush mode
- Armospheric operations that makes players feel immersed throughout the whole multiplayer session

If even just 2 items of this list make it into the game, it might actually be a battlefield game that interests me.

Don't you just love the questions they ask in the survey to register? Pronouns and inclusion of racial crap.....I respectfully told them to keep that out of the game. I wish them the best but bullshit DEI and woke crap doesn't work for me.

They just needed to release Bad Company 3 and that would have solved all their problems. Returning to classic BF gameplay isn't going to solve the issues that have made people tune out from the series since Battlefield 1.

They need to take a hard look at what Arma Reforger is going and make a better version of that game.
