They just released FFXIV and this is the result:
FINAL FANTASY XIV Online already flopping hard on Xbox. it’s not even in the top 400 paid games list.

Square Enix isn't looking to make ports just to recoup costs or to sell less than 1m units more (which is a very generous assumption in the current Xbox situation and with the Gamepass factor). They're looking for million units more, they basically want the series to have a popularity that it simply hasn't nowadays.
The Xbox platform is completely irrelevant in this dream.
The best they can do is fooling Microsoft into offering some bags of free money unrelated to actual sales to bring the game on Gamepass, same thing happened for other Japanese games like Yakuza.
This has nothing to do with the viability of the Xbox platform whose sales are reaching dead levels in many markets and that the same Microsoft is abandoning in favour of a full multiplatform strategy.
Square Enix issues are that they need to stop with the fuckups and titles that are half disappointments including FF16, rebuild the brand and target all the younger generations they have missed.
If Final Fantasy continues to sell mainly to the fans they had during the 90s which are now over 35 years old, their future is bleak.
Multiplatform per se is a band aid, not the solution, FF16 was just released on PC, it's clear there weren't millions of players waiting for the game to be unlocked from PS5, sales are modest.

Since those posters you have mentioned are in that thread with the same topic 2 years ago.
But the flow of thread was different, because it still consisted of many xbox fans. Since they moved over to PCMR they no longer offer push back, or hype xbox.
Thus it would be more fruitful to engage those posters, that have shifted away from xbox. Than blaming posters who have been consists with their take throughout the years.

The reality is that FF sold very decently on XBOX at the time when users felt that the platform was supported. It is illogical to expect percentages close to those of PS after a decade of being out of the loop.
And yet FF13 sold very well and FFXV sold enough on Xbox (~1'5-2m). The problem is starting to build a user base and suddenly abandoning it.

Whether this is true or not, what is true is what they themselves have admitted: that to increase the fan base of a franchise on a specific platform, the first thing is to support that platform and not make distinctions. It is not logical to expect better results if you not only do not put in the resources, but you are actually doing harm.
Square doesn't release games for charity, that's for sure.
If they release games on Xbox it's simply because they think it will be profitable in somo form to do so. There's no need to think about it too much.
Releasing on as many platforms as possible increases visibility. Recently, the CEO of SEGA and Namco described the reasons perfectly.
For an IP that is declining in popularity, the worst thing is still limiting its user base.
Releasing on Xbox helps with what they need to revitalize the franchise (visibilidad) , not hurts it.
And yet 99% of publishers release their games on Xbox, and more and more games and franchises that were not released on Xbox in previous generations are now doing so...
Perhaps we should ask ourselves why before we dismiss the potential of releasing games on Xbox. I don't think 99% of publishers are stupid.
Also, nobody is saying that launching on Xbox will make FF regain prestige and sell more. For that the important thing is that the product is good and connects, as you say, with the tastes of new users and not just the original ones.
Multiplatforming needs to be done in a certain way and not in a doubtful way. It's stupid to think that a port of a game 1-2 years later could sell the same on a platform as if it were released day one. Add to that the fact that it's a game that didn't have the best reception or the best word of mouth at its launch and that when they're released there are other releases that grab the attention...
Betting on multiplatforming requires launching on several platforms day one. Half-measures don't work.

What’s really dumb in SE’s part is not releasing games on PC Day 1 or at least much quicker. They are really killing their revenue there.
For Xbox, architectures are similar enough between PS5 snd Xbox Series that port can’t be that expensive. Even if SE sells couple hundred thousand copies it would still be worth it.

Unfortunately some people have not come to terms with the fact that Xbox is a borderline dead platform. Especially for Japanese games. They’re still living in a world where Xbox is a major platform that no publisher could conceivably de-prioritize or outright ignore. Even when Xbox had a user base rivaling PS these games still only sold about 10% on Xbox. Imagine what the sales split would have been with the current Xbox. The platform is heading into Wii U, vita, and stadia territory.
