Just Cause 3 |OT| Procedural Chaos

PS4 version
Support Vehicle Frenzy mission Cima Leon:Silo 1m 30secs

Restarted challenge: 6m 20secs to get into the challenge

After exiting challenge, I stead of immediately being dumped into the open world, I get a load screen

Load time to open world after exiting finished challenge: 14m 55secs

I'm sorry people need to lose jobs over this kind of screw up. There is no way testing and during development they didn't see this bullshit. I'm just doing challenges once from now on and hopefully won't get that and load again. Gonna try burn through the game over the weekend so I can trade garbage in Monday before the value drops any farther. It will be only second time I've traded a game in, in the past 15 years, this shit is completely unacceptable.

Today I ran into the worst load time I have ever experienced in a game. I'm doing a racing challenge, decide to retry it for a better score and I wait. I wait for 12 fucking minutes. This is on a disc copy on the PS4. I put it on youtube today because, holy fuck man.

Avalanche is aware of the issue and has a patch in the works.

I unlocked the dual wielded sawed-off shotguns by finding all the vintage digs in the first region. They're hilariously effective for my playstyle. If you're up close, whatever you're shooting at dies. You can get up close by grappling an enemy. Grapple, boom, next!

Basically, I play Rico like a Mass Effect 2 Vanguard. Who can fly. And steal helicopters out of the air, which is never old. So many escort missions turned on their heads when the enemy sends a helicopter to stop me.

The performance on this game is really bizarre. I've tried linking it to just about everything I can and every time it comes up as a dead end. At first I was thinking it was the light sources since I was seeing huge drops near a base that was burning bright with lights, but that theory didn't hold up in other locations. I thought it may be caves but then I'm getting frame drops in the middle of nowhere with no apparent caves around either.

I can even get random frame drops miles away in the ocean with nothing else around and if I'm being honest, I think water actually looks worse than JC2 did (pc) other than the procedural waves. I just can't think of anything that may be causing it unless the garbage collection is doing an awful job, and even then I can move in and out of certain fps barriers so it's behaving more like it's tied to something rendering. I'm clueless as to what the issue is.

I spent like 20 minutes practicing aerial mechanics like switching between gliding and parachuting and getting used to reeling in well. Wish I could rapid parachute still but its definitely feeling fun to travel.

Am I missing something with the Fire Leech rocket launcher? I press and hold the left mouse button and I can paint one target but then it won't let me lock onto anything else. I thought I would be able to lock on to eight different targets.

Same challenge, same issue for me.

Hate the unlock section, wouldn't be so bad if the controls were tighter and the vehicles actually controlled like vehicles on earth.

This game is a lot of fun. And I mean "A LOT". I only dabbled with Just Cause 2 when it was free with gold for a while. It never grabbed me for some reason. And I only played the demo of the first game. I really didn't care for it. I picked this up yesterday and just got around to playing it tonight. This one has its hooks in me so far. Only problem I have is the inconsistency with the load times. Sometimes they aren't bad, and sometimes they are atrocious (like the one I am experiencing right now that is letting me post this :p).

I'm sure it's been said a million times, but I wish Avalanche would get the license to the Mercenaries franchise. I adore that franchise and I'm afraid this series is the closest we will ever get to a new Mercenaries game (RIP Pandemic).

Only played the first mission, but so far I'm liking it. I really liked the local and scenery of 2 and I hope this doesn't disappoint.

Also for whatever reason, amazon refunded me 9 dollars for this game. I paid the normal price and have prime so not sure what that's all about

Nice to see fellow gamers with good taste.

I'm really having a time getting used to the old grapple, chute, wingsuit thing but I'm sure it will come with time. I suck so bad at the wingsuit that I'm struggling to get three stars on the first challenge you have with one. Oh well, I'm using it as a training tool to get better. Or at least I hope it works that way. Anyway, back to the sky.

edit:

Woo Hoo, finally got three gears on the cavern tour. Man I suck.

I re-bought the game and I'm having a bunch of fun now that I know how to use the wingsuit. The hell is with FOWs though? I liberated this base but they still drop airstrikes on me every 5 seconds.

When you go underwater in this game it's like you're in heaven.

It's so pretty down there.

Clear the vis Electra I think it's called then a mission called secrets of vis Electra pops up, do that mission.
(Probably spelled base name wrong)

So I picked this bad boy up on Cyber Monday off Amazon for $299(plus a dl code from Amazon for a free game: your choice of Assassin's Creed: Syndicate or Rainbow Six: Siege.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00WJOU7DA/?tag=neogaf0e-20

Got the card delivered last Friday and it's a beast. Still haven't gotten the dl code for the game from Amazon though(I contacted their customer service and they said they'd get back to me and never did).

Anyways, I bought Just Cause 3 to test out the card and it's beautiful. I'm running everything on Ultra settings at 2048x1152 and getting well over 60fps at all times.

I've read about the numerous issues the game is having and it seems to be running poorly on anything basically below a 970. Hopefully Square/Enix will get the issues patched quickly. That being said, the only issue we've encountered a few times we're gonna report to Square/Enix is that it seems like after an hour or so of playing with the wired Xbox usb controller, the game stops responding to the controller and it basically takes a Steam restart to fix the problem. Has anyone else had this issue? Otherwise, the game is fantastic and runs buttery smooth.

So far, it's my favorite game of the series. :)

This may get lost in the sea of comments but I wanted to point somethings out...

When Fallout 4 released and Giant Bomb gave a different review score to the console versions vs the PC, many, including myself, applauded them for coming out and taking the steps towards being honest with consumers about the product they were getting. The comments in that review sang the same tune as well, with many supporting the decision to score it lower.

Now, curiously, IGN decided to do the same thing with Just Cause 3 -- assigning a separate score for the console versions vs the PC. A 5.9 on PS4/XB1 and an 8.0 on PC. But glancing over the comments the great majority are vehemently against them doing this and insist that it's not fair considering they failed to mention it in previous games such as Halo MCC, for example.

One thing to take away is the huge community difference between Giant Bomb and IGN, but we knew this already. Another, though, is that these people may have a point behind all the complaining about score disparity. That is, if they are going to start now they had better stick to this mentality for all games and not just one reviewer making a point at the expense of a smaller developer.

Day two. The wingsuit feeks even more awesome than yesterday and fighting for 5 stars in the aerial challenges is super enjoyable. :) I also got more used to driving cars, but imo they still need some major tweaking in an upcoming patch, because they're no fun and I prefer to travel by air. I witnessed more situations with an unstable framerate, mostly when taking down enemy bases. Noting that would force me to put the game away and wait for a patch.

The Wingsuit is the best form of transversal in a video game in a long time.

It's such a majestic feeling to glide so close to the ground only to pick yourself back up and glide again.

I'm enjoying the hell out of the game and yet...I feel like most of the liberations are cookie cutter and copy and paste. Then again I just liberated the entire province of Insula Fonte but maybe it's different up north lol.

Framerate wise? No, me either, but the load times on some of the challenges are intolerable, so much so that I think I might avoid many of them till its patched.

That's what I'm planning to do. The worst loading times (it's still not bad - I'm slowly clearing out the first island) are on the base destruction challenges. Others for me are okay so far. I'd say that the loading times add to the difficulty by forcing me to do better on my first or second run. :D

There are problems with this game, but its majesty and beauty, particularly in the traversal mechanics more than make up for it and it's certainly not the case that 'someone needs to lose their jobs over it'. Think about what you're saying before posting drive-by rubbish.

Just a question, l'm really struggling on the pistol train at an airport, does anyone have any tips? I need dat accurate aim!

There's really no point of the cars or motorcycles (except for chop shop for Mario) when you have the fucking Wingsuit/parachute majestic combo.

Really all those cars , bikes ,military vehicles , races , challenges etc just ignore them (all that content)
I like driving in sandbox games and not flying everywhere but holy crap it's terrible
no excuse especially since mad max is from the same studio

I'm having trouble deciding between kb&m and controller. I prefer the former for combat but find the wingsuit challenges easier with the latter. Maybe I'll just alternate.

While technically true, there are two branches: the original in Sweden and another in the US. The former developed Mad Max and the latter Just Cause 3.

Yeah the motorcycles feel like GTAIV before the Lost and Damned. They were basically inoperable. The first time I rode a bike in this game was in a challenge and I got nauseous from the awkward and junky way the camera follows.

I eventually settled on a controller because I found flying/driving/wingsuiting easier with sticks. Usually I'd never give up a mouse for shootbang, but since whenever you're not using precision aim the game adopts a window of auto-aiming in combat using the ol' sticks worked out fine. Took a bit of adapting, but I found myself far less frustrated in combat than I would in a more precise shooter.

I've played two challenges and don't love them so far. Some of them seem like you need to play again later with mods. I dislike that upgrades are behind challenges and not even just behind chaos points.

So... does anyone know how to turn off big head mode?

I got the big head gun and had some fun, but now I want my head to go back to normal, and even un-equipping the gun doesn't work.

Maybe I'm missing something obvious, but I can't figure out how to make my head normal again.

This game's motorcycles are legitimately some of the worst-controlling vehicles I've ever come across in a video game. I feel like the camera actually makes it worse, too. Same as when you fly planes, the camera rolls with you as you lean the bike over, whereas pretty much every other game I've ever played with motorbikes just keeps the camera still. It adds a layer of disorientation on top of already terrible controls, and this weightless physics engine where every bump you hit will send you bouncing off in random directions.

I'm just hoping my completionist bug never hits me with this game, because getting five gears on those motorbike race challenges will be the death of me.

I'd initially settled on using the controller but wasn't noticing any auto-aim, which made me switch to kb&m until the first wingsuit challenge. Maybe it's disabled itself.

That's odd. As long as you're aiming vaguely at a character, and I think the crosshair turns red, you'll hit them. Precision aim exists specifically to disable auto-aim and manually target.

It may have been a bug. I'll fiddle around some more later.

You can change to (almost, some challenges have restrictions) any car or bike available from rebel drop in the challenge screen. It's not necessarily easy, but I did a couple bike race challenges with a car and got five gears.

I was so happy that they got rid of the bullet spongey enemies from JC2 untill I tried to conquer a big base... which was filled with bullet sponge enemies. ugh. And some of them have annoying magical shotguns that can hit you from a mile away and when they do they will stop Rico for a second.

And they really need to do something about the terrible camera. Especially the one for vehicles. It's way to close and twitchy.

And I don't care that Baby Fark McGee-zax has beat my record 3 hours ago. Let me disable that shit.

This game seriously has the worse handling vehicles in ANY open world game I've ever played. I forgave it in JC2, but come on, 3rd attempt and they still handle like ass? Luckily the wingsuit is so damn fun to use. Game is a good time, but the any land-based vehicle that isn't the tank handles like shit.

I don't care for how they drift either. I'm not sure how much or how little they can tweak it in a patch.

Honestly, the handling barely feels different from the first game. And motorcycles are still a nightmare.

I don't know, the handling of some of the cars is growing on me, bikes not a chance but the cars seem actually ok with a bit of practice and is in my opinion anyway better than any of the Saint's Row games
