Lack of PS5 Pro shortages means some scalpers are re-selling at a loss

While there remain a handful of sellers trying to sell the console at a profit, eBay UK currently has numerous sellers listing the £700 console for less than its retail price.

A number of sellers currently have Buy It Now consoles on sale for £680-£700, while others have auctions currently sitting between £510 and £670 – while these auctions will likely rise before they end, it seems less likely that they will surpass the console’s £700 retail price.

Justice served for those cunts.

This

Now, I want the same thing to happen for the mythical PS5 drive add-on.

Then again, people.are stupid, whoever is willing to spend 400 Eurodollars for one (yeah, some are trying to sell it for that much)...might as well spend some extra money and get a PS5 slim with a drive and swap it to the Pro ffs and yet...
Math, how does it work ?

Did they actually think people would go crazy for a mid gen upgrade that is already at a high price? 😂

What loss? As far as i know UK still has the same right of withdrawal for online orders for 14 days as the EU and any scalper with a brain would have known that this thing is far away from being scalpable, it was availabale all the time.

This makes me so happy, and I think the pro is selling fine, I just also think Sony saw these bastards coming this time and I'm so proud of them for finally fighting back.

Nintendo you're next. Let gamers buy the Switch 2 first.

Why not just return them for a full refund. These most be newbie scalpers or something, Veteran scalpers could see this would not be a profitable endeavor. Heck, people don’t even want to pay retail for it.

YUK!

That means you could be buying a Pro that's been returned after already being in the hands of some filthy fucking scalper.

..Disgusting.

TBF, they're not to be "blamed" for anything, they're just buying and selling, making use of their rights in the free market, the problem is when companies cannot produce enough that they raise the prices, but the alternative would be for people to wait in long lists or lines, which many other people with money and too little time will rather avoid, that's where the resellers value comes up, they already spent that time and stayed alert of products availability so the customers just have to pay and get the thing.

It is a problem only for those people not whiling to pay the price and only while the supply issue keeps going, but nothing wrong in itself, the market will always tend to balance itself as soon as supply is enough, here's an great example of that.

That's just funny.

On the other hand, can't blame people for trying. Just don't buy consoles from scalpers.

I’ll be in Best Buy today. I’ve got an old iPad I want to trade in for a bigger screen iPad.
If I see a PS5 Pro I might impulse buy that instead.

I'm sure a lot of eBay sellers have reserve prices for their auctions so that if they don't sell they can just return them. If someone is doing a buy it now for below retail I would automatically assume the unit is stolen.

Why are people so obsessed with freaking out over scalping? It is a minor issue and always has been. Millions of consoles are sold at launch and a few thousand are scalped. Any person trying to make money on the Pro would have watched it, seen that it was still available and cancelled.

If people are seeing these things auctioning and selling for less than retail what they are seeing is extreme ignorance.

Scalping only seems bad because it is hard to get high demand items and seeing a few hundred on ebay that take days to sell somehow looks bigger than it is. If scalping was illegal, it would still be extremely hard to get the hard to find things. Why shouldn't someone who generally can't make enough money another way exploit people who are well enough off to pay nearly 2x for something that is hard to get? Because you couldn't get one? FFS we all go through this shit. Sometimes we get lucky and get a preorder in, other times we are waiting for daily drops and losing our minds for weeks. Eliminating scalpers would not make that go away.
