List of PS5 Pro enhanced games

If it helps, I don’t have a VRR TV either. I tried the demo a couple of days ago, and whilst I thought it was okay, I didn’t think it was that good tbh. The visuals are disappointing in either quality or performance mode imho. I think it needs a bit more work from the dev’s before I buy it, because it seems that the 40fps mode is the only decent mode on the Pro at present, which is only good for those with VRR TVs. I at least want a decent looking 60fps mode.
I don't have a VRR TV and the 40 fps mode works great for me, looks better than quality mode used to look, and i havn't experienced any major framerate issues yet ..only played the forest area so far

Sorry, I also meant I don’t have 120hz TV either. I’m guessing you need one of those for 40hz to work?

I thought Hogwarts received a PS5 Pro patch? Game doesn't run too well, smh. FPS all over the place and I've tried all settings, display/tv options, etc. Picked up the Deluxe version on sale for $20 on PSN store.
Absolutely tragedy the patch for this game is, I’ve been pretty vocal about how I think it’s one of the worst patches, especially since the series x version runs rings round it, but I didn’t play it on base ps5 so I’m not sure how bad that was to start as I had assumed it ran well since it got the exclusive level and marketing money. Since it was a point of contention and is barely tolerated still on that other board I don’t remember people complaining about the frame rate etc over here for ps5 though at the time

It did receive a Pro patch and its better than most pro patches because not only does it look sharper/clearer and have a higher framerate, each mode got bumped up. Performance now is equivalent to the old balanced setting and balanced is now the equivalent of the old fidelity setting.
Wow the original base ps5 modes must have been absolute tripe for this to be an improvement…

So wait let's recap for a minute. Guys, who here that actually own a PS5 and have seen many of these titles on the base PS5 for comparison can honestly say that PSSR doesn't work? The goal with PSSR is to reconstruct a 4K image that rivals the quality mode on the base PS5 and to offer a superior image to existing solutions such as FSR, TAAU, or other customs upscalers. In the vast majority of the over 100 PRO enabled games out there, PSSR is a revelation and works remarkably better than the base PS5 solutions. Do we really need zoomed in GIF comparisons vs FSR to see this? No, it's immediately obvious when just looking on your screen. Is PSSR perfect? No! Is there still room for improvement in many titles? Absolutely! But again, it's still extremely early days and PSSR will continue to improve and devs will get better with their integrations (as we're already seeing with the latest crop of titles: Black Myth, Space Marine 2, Alan Wake 2 etc)

Bottom line: we're talking about the first ever machine learning reconstruction algorithm built for console. Sony's 1st ever attempt at building a custom neural network designed for super resolution. And you know what? It actually works! And only 1 month from launch, it works pretty well if you actually pay attention. It addresses the primary fault of FSR....motion artifacts and disocclusion. It delivers a more convincing 4K image (even with very low input resolutions) that can even surpass the native 4K modes on the base PS5 in some cases (e.g Stellar Blade, TLOU Pt1/2, God of War: Ragnarok, Demon's Souls). It really does take some games to the next level in terms of IQ and has delivered more than few "wow" moments already (FFVII Rebirth, Space Marine 2, Demons' Souls, TLOU, God of War, Stellar Blade etc).

The focus seems to be on the handful of titles that have poor results with PSSR mostly due to poor integrations on the devs. In these rare cases, the base PS5 IQ actually looks better including games like Avatar Frontiers of Pandora, Jedi Survivor, and Silent Hill 2. But somehow, those fews titles trump all of the cases where PSSR is clearly better and the narrative becomes "PSSR isn't ready" or "PSSR sucks". It apparently takes developers adding a PSSR toggle to remind folks that many of the titles with IQ issues after the PRO patch also had worse IQ issues before the PRO patch (*cough Alan Wake 2).

If nothing else, the presentation today by Mark Cerny should remind folks just how complex and sophisticated a product like PSSR actually is. Yes the Internet (and GAF) can be toxic and ridiculous with the incessant criticisms and complaining but this really is a remarkable achievement for Sony and the game industry as a whole. Yes, there is still much work to be done but sometimes it's OK to actually commend someone and say "BRAVO" for all the hard work.

Having finished watching the interview, presentation and the df breakdown, it is interesting, and I get it’s hard, however for my £700 I believe they should have worked with devs closer to help them achieve consistent results, I’m not letting them off just because it’s hard and they wanted to implement their proprietary upscaling rather than license an existing one..

As for the performance mode, there's a slight boost in resolution I believe,

Also, it appears that the frame gen had been turned off on pro as I couldn't spot any of the 'generated' mid frames.

Which will of course result better image integrity (still kinda messy since it still uses FSR) and input latency

This comparison looks way better
OK with wukong getting PRO and 40fps mode... + a physical release, it was time to finally get it. Ordered the disc
The only thing that was still stopping me was lack of HDR... but I suppose they will never add that

How does warhammer SM2 not have HDR? Are you guys adjusting anything to compensate like turning HDR to always on at system level or playing as is?

Yes 😁

Maybe I'm a console peasant, but, I have HDR enabled on a system level (always on) on my PS5.

Don't come at me

Fantastic. I hope in this very early stage of PSSR ML of Ps5 pro, which is still constantly learning and evolving, if developers are not yet use too or having difficulty with PSSR ML, then have an option for 40-50 fps with RT/4K. Slowly but surely maybe by next year, they can slowly implement a full 60fps 4k with Rt once the PSSR ML matures in Ps5 pro.

40 fps mode works in this game for me even without VRR.....I do have a 120 hz tv though, HOWEVER, I noticed something very interesting about the 40 fps mode in this game (this game and Avatar only) that makes me think someone probably doesn't need a 120hz TV and here's why:

The reason my TV is 120hz but can't do VRR is because it has the older hdmi spec. In other words the hdmi bandwidth is too low for VRR. So in games that offer 40 fps modes I can use those modes but the image is compressed and that always results in gamma levels being off and crushed blacks ...However .....not in Avatar or Black Myth! Those 2 games run perfectly with no crushed blacks. There isn't even a pause where the TV switches from 60 hz to 120 hz whereas every other game my TV blacks out for a second as it goes between 60 and 120

Long story short .. I think you will get 40 fps in Black Myth without VRR or 120hz TV

I'm just curious why do devs typically need a TVs 120hz to achieve 40 fps? Why aren't more games doing what Wukong and Avatar doing and just running at 40 fps at 60hz?? Anyone know?

I bought SW Outlaws today thinking that I'll be getting 40 fps without black crush on my LG C8 because they're the same developer as Avatar but no such luck...as with other 40 fps games it switches into 120 hz and I get the messed up gamma ...then I realized it must be engine related I'm guessing Avatar and Outlaws use 2 different engines snowdrop and anvil?

I have many thoughts after watching Cerny's presentation as well as thoughts on PS5 pro version of SW Outlaws after now having played both Pro and SX versions of this game ...but I'll have to leave those thoughts for later...

Because you get massive judder. At 120hz, you get 3 refreshes per FPS. 60 / 40 is 1.5, so you get judder since PS5's VRR doesn't work below 48 FPS, unless the game is specifically coded for it.

40fps on 60hz refresh is constant stutter. That's why 120hz panels were needed to show it in optimal way.

Your C8 only can do 120hz with 1080p res, no?

PS5 Pro Specific Updates

  • PSSR (PlayStation AI Upscaling) - much better foliage movement (and assets movements as a whole), better upscaling from a lower resolution.
  • Higher Overall Resolution.
  • Better Shadows – added option to use VSM (Virtual Shadow Maps in Quality and Quality Unlocked modes). The normal cascade shadows are also of higher quality on PS5 Pro.
  • Improved Ray Tracing support – PS5 Pro versions is using hardware ray tracing for reflections, ambient occlusion (AO) and lighting (RTGI). PS5 is using software ray-tracing. This means much better reflections and more stable and correct lighting when playing on PS5 Pro.
  • Enhanced Visual Modes: Every visual mode in the game has improvements over the same modes on the base PS5.
  • Mode exclusive to PS5 Pro – Performance RT Pro: it uses quality settings of the base PS5 + hardware ray tracing, targeting 60FPS. This is the default setting on PlayStation 5 Pro.

I've never messed with it and always had it off. I do feel like SM2 needs it a little for extra pop. The problem is, you have to make so many adjustments for just one game because I first calibrated in game when I started the game and then had to tune my tv and then go back and readjust the game again. It sill looks good though. Like really good. I'd like to see if I can find a good combo though.

Have you noticed the weird shadow LOD pop-in in the jungle areas? In certain areas the shadow detail loads in as you walk, like 15 feet in front of your character, it’s really distracting and I don’t remember it being so bad in the launch version.

Now this is a PS5 PRO patch! Remains to be seen how successful they were but the things that they targeted for improvement are precisely what the PS5 PRO is designed for (i.e. the Big 3)
  • [PSSR Upscaling] PSSR 4K resolution - Check!
  • [Bigger GPU + PSSR] Base Quality mode settings at 60fps - Check!
  • [Bigger GPU] Overall graphics improvements/resolution over base for each setting - Check!
  • [Enhanced Ray Tracing] Software -> Hardware RT in UE at 60fps - Check!
The results here should be transformative. Hopefully no obvious bugs or issues with the patch.

Side Note: Really cool to see PRO enable Hardware RT in UE. We have several cases of the PRO doing HW RT at 60fps at that! Makes a huge difference and it's clearly too much for the base PS5 even at 30fps.

What about Devil May cry 5 ? The game lets you enable both RT and HFR at the same time - does anyone know if there are any downsides ? (like RE4Re for example).

Thanks

I remember DF saying good things about it and how the pro is now the best place to play the game, but I can't recall details. It was in one of their earlier videos about the pro where they were talking about testing a bunch of games.

Honest thoughts.

Thinking of picking a Pro up tomorrow, but wondering if I should put the money towards a laptop. Appreciate that’s my call, but how are the games looking?

Anything really impressed so far?

Overall I think I'd say it's been slightly underwhelming. I was initially happily surprised to see how many older games were getting patched, but the quality of some of the updates has certainly been lacking. Jedi Survivor was a big one for me - it's still a great game, I replayed the whole thing on Pro, and it's better in performance mode than it is on base PS5 in certain respects, but I expected better.

Some others like Horizon ZD/FW though... holy crap. I play pretty close to a 77" LG G4 and damn, I've never seen anything like this image quality. I can literally press my nose up to the screen and it's flawless. In performance mode.

So I think it was worth it for me, but I'd say that's only the case if:
  1. You're looking for improvements to performance modes as opposed to quality modes.
  2. You play on a big 4K TV.
  3. Image quality issues really stick out to you.
  4. Burning an extra couple hundred dollars doesn't matter to you.
  5. You're ok with not every game that really could use improvement really getting much.

Thanks both.

I do have a good Sony 65inch Oled so will be able to enjoy the graphical upgrades.

I think my hesitancy is that I just need that *one* game to push me over the edge. All the Sony games looking great, but I’ve already played them many times over.

POE 2 is supposed to look great on the Pro, so that could be my justification.

If you want to buy it just as a cool piece of tech, then it's totally up to your spending capacity. I actually had a backlog that is dramatically improved with the Pro. This is my current list with 2 of these being my "forever" games that I pick up and play at anytime:
  1. The Witcher 3 - Solid 4k 60 on pro
  2. TLOU2 - My wife plays this at least twice a year on grounded difficulty and I'm doing my first full playthrough now, where I'm not just a backseat gaming cheerleader
  3. GT7 - My forever game, until GT8
  4. God of War Ragnarok - Looks pristine on the pro with all quality mode settings making the cut to 60 fps
  5. Until Dawn Remake - Looks great on the pro after a horrible launch and a slew of patches
  6. Horizon Forbidden West + DLC - Was 50% done playing on Fidelity at 30 fps when I got the Pro and now it's better looking than fidelity at 60 fps.
  7. FF7 Rebirth - Haven't touched it yet. Was waiting to play it on the Pro and it got the the best possible upgrade I could imagine
  8. Spiderman 2 - Waited as I knew a pro would eventually come out and Insomniac would lead the pack in terms of upgrades
  9. Jedi Survivor - Will not play until they fix the PSSR implementation or remove it altogether
  10. Silent Hill 2 - Will not play until they fix the PSSR implementation for 30 fps or remove it altogether. But I may yield and play it as it seems like the perfect game for my wife during the holidays.
Completing this backlog with my limited hours (along with completing Sifu and Sekiro, which were already looking perfect on the PS5) will take me 1.5 years. Certainly worth the $420 upgrade for me (traded in at Gamestop). The most undersold part for me is that I could actually download all those games and still have space left!

If none of the above are on your list, nor some of the other solid updates, then may be wait till some new games release next year?
