The price drop is supposed to take effect on Sept 15 - so that would be next week's chart. However, it is a fairly small price drop. The PS2 is open price right now, but can be found for about 17,800 yen. The official price drop will be priced at 16,000 yen, so it is only about a 10% price drop. I wouldn't expect much of a sustained long-term boost to sales, but it will be interesting to keep an eye out for it, because the PS2 has been hovering around 20k per week for much of 2006.sonycowboy said:Was this the first week of the Japanese PS2 price drop?
Does that have as much effect in Japan as it normally does in the US? (although, retailers can be slow to act and could easily take a good couple of weeks to get out to consumers)

Kenshin 120-150k for the week?
Ridge Racers 2 just 30k at most for the week? Bomba?
Meh...I just posted this so if someone saw the figures they would share...
What what? I thought 30000 sold was the measure of success for a game in Japan. Or at least thats what that guy was banging on about the past couple of months.Xzbeat said:Wow! If true RR2 bombed hard.
I believe it was 300.000 instead of 30.000..heidern said:What what? I thought 30000 sold was the measure of success for a game in Japan. Or at least thats what that guy was banging on about the past couple of months.

Ehm...sorry? 30k at most for the week is what I understood in sinobi's postMoor-Angol said:not so bad i think... 30k first day means around 50k for first week, not a bad result, we are talking about PSP games and we all know only Monster Hunter titles can sell more than 500k on PSP

cvxfreak said:Looks like the GBA after SP will overtake DS after DSL pretty soon. Understandably so, since the DSL is, as a product, closer to the original DS as a product in terms of price and features. This is unlike the original GBA, which could have further enticed people based on its horizontal layout, use of batteries and considerably lower price.
I think having no DS' available could be a factor, too, couldn't it ?cvxfreak said:Looks like the GBA after SP will overtake DS after DSL pretty soon. Lithium-ion all the way.
Moor-Angol said:not top100, it's Famitsu DS magazine, i was in Japan this summer and i bought both July and August issues and you can find top20 monthly chart.
Anyway, i checked again and Yawaraka was not in the chart, so the last data we have is from jan-jun 2006 chart. My mistake, sorry!
Barf_the_Mog said:what the hell is Nintendo going to do for the remaining 3 months of the year? North America will probably gobble up 3 million units - same with Europe. Japan will most likely sell closer to 4 million units. :-/
= 10 million units
They can produce 2.2 million per month. 2.2 * 3.5 = 7.7 million
10 million
- 7.7 million
= 2.3 million shortage
Last we got of Europe (weekly sales) was 140,000/week (from Nintendo), this was a few weeks ago though (or month or something).Stopsign said:I'm betting Nintendo has been stockpiling in both Europe and North America. You can see that in the Japan weekly shipments of around 150,000. They produce around 550,000 a week, and I know America and Europe aren't selling 400,000 a week.
