What was Awakenings debut again in Japan?
Around 260k units.

About the sequel...I think NX would be a much better fit, at this point. Now, I could see a Splatoon spinoff coming to 3DS next year, to keep the brand in people's mind before the actual sequel on NX.
Media Create has Splatoon digital sales at almost 60k.
Well, Splatoon isn't on the 3DS.

pretty solid number for digital sales, not only in terms of % compared to the retail quantites. isn't it?
That's huge. So that puts Splatoon at ~370k combined.

Nintendo has today announced that, according to internal company figures, sales of its new Wii U exclusive Splatoon have crossed 1 million worldwide. This figure is said to include more than 476,000 physical and digital units sold in the Americas, over 368,000 sold in Japan, over 230,000 sold in Europe, plus a further 20,000 sold in Australia and New Zealand.

Well, it will be the best-selling game on the Japanese eShop so yeah, it's good.
There might be publishers who are willing to develop and market nicher products - and find them profitable (isn't what it's happening for basically 90% of PSV games?). It would be unreasonable, on Marvelous' part, to invest a lot in a dormant franchise that had been a Sony exclusive for 10 years. It might also seem a way to break the annual HM / RF rotation while keeping simulation games fans busy with a similar product.
Well, it's extrapolated from the numbers Nintendo gave this morning (368,000), so of course it's around 370,000 XD

Actually, on this note, which series still get released by Marvelous?
I'm filtering back to July 2013 (~2 years ago today) and getting the following:
-Senran Kagura (2015)
-Harvest Moon (2014)
-Kinki No Manga (2014, did 40K LTD)
-Bakumatsu Rock (2014, though this is a really low seller at 10K between PSP/Vita)
-Valhalla Knights 3 Gold (2013, not heard much since, and this was a re-release)
Obviously they just released PoPoLoCrois and IIRC they have Valkyrie Dive or something upcoming.
Is there anything I'm missing?

It isn't. Dragon Quest X is still the best selling one.
And I suppose the "DQX vanilla" label includes all the expansions as well, otherwise I don't know why it still appears in normal charts, despite the expansions being out. If it includes expansions + discounted upgrades from Wii to Wii U...I fear it's a number no other games could possibly achieve.
A major flop by Nintendo with a third party game dominating digital charts. #theironyisreal
That would be accurate, given how Nintendo provided these figures in the 1 million sold press release:
RE6 (PS3+360) - 837,774+39,363
MGS3 (PS2) - 819,807
MGSPW (PSP) - 791,761
GTA5 (PS3) - 729,533
MGS4 (PS3) - 706,461
RE5 (PS3+360) - 520,564+123,817
Dirge of Cerberus FFVII (PS2) - 513,157
Yakuza Dead Souls (PS3) - 417,504
CoD BO2 Subbed (PS3+360) - 336,319 + 21,804
Famitsu numbers, only counting single release SKUs, no re-releases or late ports.
In that timeframe, no. One can say that Rune Factory is still alive since the last sold more than 200k in Japan and was a hit in North America.
Ah yeah, Rune Factory is most likely still around.I suppose we'll hear more about Rune Factory in the future. Marvelous now has the original development team, right?
And yeah, strange Valhalla Knights hasn't been seen since 2013. IIRC, the original 3 did quite well by series standards, but I don't remember how Gold performed.
Ah yeah, Rune Factory is most likely still around.
That's mainly what I was wondering, if there were announced games coming up or things that wouldn't be in that timeframe that were plausibly still around.
Media Create has Splatoon digital sales at almost 60k.
Huh, how on earth did the PS4 manage to sell twice the amount of wiiu this year?
I thought it was almost every week sub 10k.
Nintendo just released numbers saying 368k in Japan. So over 400k (for Splatoon) with digital sales going by Famitsu?
So that 6m between US/Japan. Wonder what WW sales are at, at this point. With the way it is tracking behind PSP we will probably never know though unfortunately.
Yay.Also, since there were people worried for The Great Ace Attorney going by Comgnet...it has a second SKU. Right now, it's at 41pts.
I don't think you've been paying attention, using MC numbers it hasn't been below 10k at all this year. There was even a stretch in Feb/March where it was doing 30-50k for several weeks in a row.
edit: same with Famitsu numbers
At 370K we're shooting up the shooter chart pretty fast with not many signs of slowing down.
While the higher parts of the chart still seems like a stretch, it's going to rank very well in the end. It's pretty easy for me to imagine it going above Dirge of Cerberus.
(For the benefit of others, your chart from a previous thread.)
500k+ is a lock at this point, and 600k+ is certainly within reach. There's clearly more demand than supply, and it seems pretty leggy. It'll be pretty funny if the game manages to outsell Smash on WiiU!
Sales of Splatoon, the new squid-based game for Nintendos Wii U home console, have crossed 1 million worldwide, according to Nintendos internal figures.
That figure includes more than 476,000 physical and digital units sold in the Americas, more than 368,000 sold in Japan, more than 230,000 sold in Europe and an additional 20,000 sold in Australia and New Zealand.
I'm pretty sure sequel in 3DS is a lock.

Nice hold for The Witcher 3
Very good analisis. I'd also point out that the dual campaign allows them to have very different aesthetics that will be favored by different peope. It looks poised to have a notably better opening, which fits with a significant expansion on the series.
I wrote more about why this is happening compared to other underperformers this year here: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=169324217&postcount=477
Was there any holiday last week or something?
Curious because sales increased for Nintendo games.
The smartest thing Nintendo could do, I think, would be to figure out how to make the NX into handheld hardware that can accept downgraded ports from PS4 without too much hassle. It's funny how all those multiplat (PC, Xbox, PS) games are basically Playstation 4 exclusives in Japan.
Sincerly, I don't know. I don't say sales back at the PS2's first chapter wouldn't have been nice (I mean the one with the 90k opening), they would've been great. But it's also true this is a series that disappeared for so long that I don't know what were their reasonable expectations. I'm sure their hope was to bring the series back to that, but I think it's possible their expectations are more in line with what the game did in the first week. I suppose they had forecasts a bit better, for sure, though. I said "decent" due to the game (at least) being decently (sorry for the repetition) up compared to the last two games in the series.
