A very theoretical question:
Could a well made "Pokemon x Monster Hunter" cross over game "save" the Wii U in Japan?
if well made enough then i'd say it could

On TGS - is it just me or TGS this year feels underwhelmed for everyone too?

If its was good and manages to come out right after Nintendo's big hitters next spring, maybe. If it comes out a year and a half from now after the poke hype dies down and the inevitable 4G release, then I doubt it will have as big of an impact as they would hope.if well made enough then i'd say it could
What would a PokémonHun game even entail? Nintendo/TPC would never allow you to hunt actual Pokémon, so... use Pokémon to hunt monsters?

Anytime someone mentions Pokémon X Monster Hunter, one has to question whether people know how each series works.
The most likely collaboration between those two IPs we'll see is armor for hunters and/or felynes (I could see a Pikachu felyne armor being really popular). I don't see anything more than that happening.
nintendo would never allow killing pokemon or killing with pokemon.
I doubt many are serious, but you'd have to be absolutely crazy to think Nintendo would allow Pokemon to be in a 15+ title.
If Pokemon were included the rating would be lower due to the lack of blood and killing.I doubt many are serious, but you'd have to be absolutely crazy to think Nintendo would allow Pokemon to be in a 15+ title.
dunno what rating it has elsewhere but its mh3u is a 12 in europe
You catch Pokemon, but you also fight along side them. It's an action RPG. Probably set in Orre.

The entire series was made with handheld gaming in mind but people want it on console because they think it would be better for some reason.I thought there was similar talk about mash-up sales potential regarding SMTxFE.
Monster Hunter and Pokemon are obviously on another tier in terms of popularity, but I can't see how the game could even work for one thing, nor that it would necessarily see the success of the proper games, let alone "save" the Wii U.
For one thing, the latter is a handheld franchise and the former only exploded in popularity on handhelds.
Having a mainline iteration of either franchise on the Wii U seems a more realistic, albeit still improbable, prospect. And I don't think that would "save" the Wii U either.
I actually don't really get why people bring up the prospect of a console Pokemon. I thought the mechanics of the game were largely designed towards handheld gaming.
So they would be skins basicallyYeah they would take the place if felynes
It seems to come up so often as a #gamechanger. The entire series was made with handheld gaming in mind but people want it on console because they think it would be better for some reason.

I haven't played a Pokemon game in yonks, but I just don't see why people think it would see similar success on home systems. It doesn't seem like a game that would benefit from the increase in processing power consoles afford. It's intrinsically pick-up and play. The target demographic for the game and franchise as a whole, is children and teenagers (yes, many adults play and love Pokemon too, it has a broad general appeal, but that's still the primary demo, imo), which aligns well with the primary demo for handheld devices (at least in the West).
Are there any successful handheld to home console transitions really? (Or vice versa for that matter - I can think of Mon Hun and DQ.) Generally it just doesn't seem like shoehorning properties designed for one type of system onto the other works that well.
:^)get out
This sounds like an absolute trainwreck.
Here's my idea for saving the Wii U in Japan: a steady stream of high quality titles that cater to both casual and hardcore gamers.A very theoretical question:
Could a well made "Pokemon x Monster Hunter" cross over game "save" the Wii U in Japan?
Yeah, I'm trying to think of one off the top of my head - where a franchise moved from being primarily on handheld to primarily on home consoles and benefited from the transition commercially - and can't, but maybe I'm missing something glaringly obvious.People just want a Pokémon game that has a really high graphical fidelity when they say they want it on home consoles. Not really much else to it and am not interested in seeing it and am quite happy with the way it is currently, and I imagine a majority are happy the way it is right now too.
When you say successful handheld to console transition, do you mean a series getting better sales from the transition?
Isn't that an example of home console -> handheld, rather than handheld -> home console?Phantasy Star is one.

How about the SaGa series?
A Monster Hunter x Pokemon game would probably use a more realistic take on Pokemon to match the Monster Hunter universe. It would still be recognizable enough to keep that Pokemon brand but different enough that it doesnt feel like your killing Pokemon.
I mean Im sure most people would be able to tell what Pokemon these are but theyre different enough to not feel bad enough about "killing" them.
Well at that point those wouldn't even be Pokemon right? It would lose the appeal. The theory is beyond ridiculous anyway, since Nintendo/TPC are not letting Pokemon be murdered or depicted that way.
So this is the crazy 3DS schedule from 31 October - 12 December:-
So while I was gone, we went from having no 3DS titles to this long list?
I don't recognize most of those games doe so iunno if they'll sell well or not.
These games really aren't new lol.

EDIT: I can already think of a few of the latter, but I'm drawing a blank on the former too.
Hmm, just from a quick look, it seemed to sell slightly more (in terms of shipments), but not explosively more on the SNES than the GB.How about the SaGa series?
there has to be some newly announced stuff on that list, right?
We only found out the release date for Attack on Titan this week but it was announced a few months back.Stardust Amazoness is the most recent one, from a couple weeks ago.
I think VitaminZ Revolution and the Attack on Titan game might be relatively recent as well. Either that, or they just had some more info revealed in recent Famitsus and I'm mistaking those for their announcements.
There are a bunch coming to the Vita, though they're largely waifu filled and unlikely to leave Japan. There might be some decent budget indies coming though, if that is of any interest.I'm also finding the lack of tactical games on the Vita and 3da a little worrying. I know of Fire Emblem and the Disgaea ports, but is that it? Is this genre not popular enough anymore?
Slay 'em, Skin 'em, Wear 'em.Anytime someone mentions Pokémon X Monster Hunter, one has to question whether people know how each series works.
The issue with Pokemon though is that Nintendo really should look at it as a first party too, not just software developer. Even if a console Pokemon couldn't match the numbers of the portable games and had higher development costs, it'd certainly do high numbers which could help moving any of their consoles, beating many of their other franchises. That wouldn't mean removing the franchise from portables or anything like that, just make a graphically enhanced version for consoles after the portable titles.
They seem to have no problems nowadays moving high selling console titles to portables, but seem to avoid even trying the reverse with their biggest portable series. Now, I guess X/Y might be showing that Gamefreak isn't really very proficient, considering how they were unable to implement 3d in the overworld in spite of the basic graphics, but they wouldn't need Gamefreak to do that kind of title. Just make another Pokemon RPG for consoles, but without going out of their way to not include basic features of the portable titles, like wild Pokemon, unlike what was done with the GameCube Pokemon RPGs.
