We are speaking of sales here, and not about power. In terms of market and competition, WiiU is the FIRST of his generation. And this is a good indicator for the Wii U... how? Also, it's arguably the LAST of its generation (you know, power-wise).
How this is a good thing for the WiiU? I already said.
It's not the same to be selling 10-15k a week when your competitors are still near a year away, that doing it when your competitor is selling near 10 times as much as you and has a huge userbase on it.
The fact is that next year PS3 will be dead, maybe there will be still some games for it since development times now are at least of 1-2 years or even more in some cases, but third parties are now investing on future, and this is on the console market, WiiU against PS4 and Durango. And WiiU has near 700.000 consoles sold at this moment and a first party behind that will support it to the end no matter what, with some games that will for sure move hardware.
This is how the things are from a business point of view, and this is why the WiiU is still far from being a vita. In one year, when Nintendo's strongest cards are on the table, if the console is still struggling like it does at this moment and with a PS4 dominating the hardware weekly sales with an average of 60.000, then we could say WiiU is on Vita's league.
