Can't think of a single American re-design that isn't infinitely uglier than the Japanese originals or even the European re-designs.
The Genesis name and logo are the worst of the bunch. Same applies for the "Sega CD" themes and logos. Don't even get me started on the Game Gear. The "GameBoy Advance" US font is uglier. The US SNES console is one of the ugliest.
Aww hell naw. I'll give you that SNES is ugly compared to Super Famicom.
Mega Drive with that gold 16-bit kinda looks like it was designed to match the cover for Ghouls and Ghosts. Very strange and slightly offputting.
Now the Genesis is pretty much the same, but its color scheme evokes the impeccable style and ruthless efficiency of an ace TIE Fighter pilot. And it puts the glorious Sega Genesis logo front and center, de-emphasizing the "bit wars" 16-BIT text which is way too large and cheesy and gold on the Mega Drive.
And the original Famicom? My god this piece of shit looks like it's the garbage truck for Mos Eisley or something. If the jawas found it on the side of a sand dune they'd probably just leave it. And what happened, did they go to the land-speeder paint shop and say "Fuck my shit up so it looks like a filthy sandperson" and the paint dude was like "Say no more, fam"
Compared to NES, like yeah sure it's mostly just a box. But the color scheme is clean and sexy, like a storm trooper commander.... and the controller is the most iconic of all time.
