I hate that I’ve started paying too much attention to the reactions again. All of MHK’s talk about it, then Vyse surprising me with how my reactions are doing, have got me checking in every half and hour or so, like some kind of junkie.

I’ve never struggled with an addiction to any substance, but these fucking emojis. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I find the increasing usage of the term "stanning" odd. When did this become a thing? That song is really old and I had never heard that usage until maybe this year, and now I'm seeing people use it here daily.

I had to ask what it meant about a year ago.

It’s just one of the many examples of the internet affecting (read: fucking up) the English language.

A word or phrase starts getting used on social media, it spreads like AIDs, then all the sheep are using it. When you ask them why, they respond with “that’s always been a thing, dummy” with a straight face.

I’ve seen it a zillion times. Example is the majority of people on the internet replacing the word “in” with the word “on” in sentences where it doesn’t belong because the internet is a shit English teacher and most people are too stupid to realise it.

That reminds me, I'm not sure if this is a regional thing or not, but up here in Canada, my whole life people have said "In line" when they are waiting in a line for something. In American media I've often heard people say "on line" meaning the same thing, which isn't used as much today I think for obvious reasons, but the internet aside, I never understood why people would say on line instead of in line to mean waiting in a line for something.

It used to be a hip hop thing. Now I see it more from k-pop crazies on twitter than anything.

I see it used in the Politics forum all the time, it may have been a hip hop thing but the larger culture has absorbed it for some reason.

It’s a pet hate of mine. I’ve had Americans argue with me that it’s always been a thing. It might have in extremely small regional examples, but it wasn’t so widespread as it has been since social media came around. They deny this though.

I’ve done some research on it and the best I can come up with is it’s an American East Coast thing at it’s origin.

It’s extremely dumb, though.
