Metroid Prime 4: Beyond showcase at the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 Direct will allegedly “blow everything else in the direct out of the water”

If Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, a cross-gen release, will be the most impressive title shown during the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, the next-gen version has to have considerable graphical upgrades over the version that runs on the aging Switch hardware. It’s possible that the extra horsepower of the Switch 2 is used not only to boost image quality and frame rate, but also to add modern features, such as ray traced reflections. Only time will tell whether this is the case, however.

Mod edit: Added more clarity to the headline. You guys can now stop overreacting. Thanks.

I hope so but I remember that past cross-gen titles by Nintendo were fairly conservative in what they used the additional power of the "next gen" platform for. I think Breath of the Wild, for example, had a more stable framerate and higher resolution than the Wii U Version? But it did not look significantly better. And I expect this to be the case for Metroid Prime 4 as well, tbh. But I am ready to be proven wrong.

Define everything else please? Like on Switch 2, Switch 2 launch titles? Switch titles? PS5 Pro enabled titles? Previous Metroid titles? or just games in general?

Pretty bold statement without context and setting pretty unrealisitic expectations. Most people will just be happy to have a great prime game.

I think its pretty obvious he means everything else at the presentation

Great if its true. Maybe what they mean is about gameplay and design that we will be blown away. Dont expect next gen visuals but what matters most for Nintendo is great exclusives and gameplay. Metroid is one of the best, and the gamecube metroid is still for me the gold standard for action games puzzles.

I'm expecting good things from the game, but I'd be surprised if it was much better than everything else shown.

I can't think of any Nintendo cross gen game that was on two platforms of noticeably different power levels. So we don't have much precedence to follow here.
Not hard when you haven't got much else to show no doubt, other than yet more ports
Why don't you think they have much else to show?

That makes me less hyped for Metroid Prime 4 as it does concerned about the rest of the announcements of the presentation.
Hes not saying all games are gonna look worse than a Switch Game hes saying MP4 has a unseen side on NS2 that makes It rise Up over the rest of the games of the presentation (that also probably includes moderen third party games) so I dont see why his statenent is deflating your expectations.

I was just going by the thread title which failed to specify graphics. Regardless, I highly doubt it will “blow away” modern third party games in terms of graphics, but the other Switch 2 games, sure, that seems feasible.

Neither the tweet in the OP nor the user you're responding to mentioned graphics. While the graphics could be impressive, I doubt he's exclusively or primarily talking about graphics, since MP4 is a crossgen game. More likely he's implying that the scope of the game is larger than people expect and/or there are major gameplay features that were not shown in the first trailer.

I also think that some of you are taking the part about blowing away everything else in the direct too literally. There's no way he's seen the direct, which probably isn't even fully edited yet, or has inside information on every game that will be featured. It's just a hyperbolic way of stating that he thinks MP4 is going to be more impressive than you might think.

I’m just going with what the article said that the OP quoted. If the article writer misinterpreted the tweet, that’s on them.

Oh yeah, that's fair. I do think the article is drawing the wrong conclusions from the tweet.

Personally, I think there's probably some gameplay feature that he was told about off the record during his conversations with Retro devs that he's hyped about. I'd honestly be surprised if he's even much (or any) more actual game footage than we have.

“Haven’t got much else to show”? 🤔 What do you know that the rest of us don’t? Been 10 months since the last Direct, and very few major first-party EPD-developed games since 2022/2023. Everything would seem to point to it being the opposite of what you’re saying.
