Microsoft has pulled its $1 Game Pass trial ahead of CoD BO6 release for 14 days

IMO, they should be using these titles to incentivize people to sign up with the trial and hook them into staying, This tells me MS/XB do not have confidence in the service that enough people will stick around after the 14 day trial. I can understand it with Starfield more so than a mostly online focused game like CoD. I get there are those that would play the campaign and leave after the trial but I would think they have opportunity to capture on online players and incentivize them to stick around.

Mckmaster uses MasterCard to buy Slave drives
This is the same as Sony cranking up the price of Horizon back up, so you can't buy it cheap, then buy the remaster for $10.

If you've got a problem with one of these but not the other it'd be a good litmus test for being a fanboy.

Exactly why I'm okay with both of these decisions.

Makes sense they have the earn back the 70 billion somehow, giving people CoD for $1 aint going to do that. They know people can abuse the offer to create a new account for just to finish the campaign.
They have already lost my sale and i know at least 6 others who wont be buying CoD this year as we all have game pass and will just play it through that. We have all had game pass for the last few years and all buy CoD every year, but this year no need to. so instant saving. I normally get the vault edition but this year don't fancy it as I have disliked the last few Treyarch games didn't even bother with the beta this year. Will do the campaign and try the multiplayer and if I like it I will get the season pass probably.

You're doing exactly what they want you to do. Stay subscribed, buy the season pass and maybe a few skins. We'll see how that plays out for XBox.
I'll play the first COD in years. Last one was Ghosts. As I'm only interested in the campaigns I'm happy they finally started to put them on GamePass.

So they expect third parties to release their games on GamePass with $1 trials; however, won't do the same for their games... That should tell developers all they need to know.

I think the developers don't give a fuck, nor do the publishers. They'll be negotiating a guaranteed fee to be on Gamepass, not a slice of people's $1 trial money.

Makes sense. Few years ago MS would be willing to take the hit.

Gamepass numbers increasing for a $1, and the media making bias success articles, arent gonna be as important to MS heads as actual money at this point.

How dare they. Someone get Lina Khan on the phone. We must reverse this merger immediately.

I mean, if they just did it now... isn't that sort of late? Perhaps they are going off of data they have showing people sign up for Game Pass close to a big game release otherwise seems odd that they'd wait and do it now.

When did you get your Xbox? Was it a recent purchase? Why weren't you playing COD prior to Game Pass?
(You don't have to answer, but just curious)

Don't want to make this too off topic so I'll keep it short.
I'm using Xbox consoles for about 20 years.
There is no real reason except for maybe lack of time. I even have some unplayed, older CODs in my backlog.
The release on GamePass just gives me a reason to try the two newest campaigns without further investment.
Maybe that gives me enough of a push to tackle the ones in my backlog.

Gotcha, thanks for the response! Appreciate it.

A 7 year old game's retail price being increased is the same as not getting a $1 subscription trial for a new game.

You took the bait 😂

Technically, they are. By charging more, and knowing that this is CoD, they’ll actually bring in more overall revenue.

People will moan, to be sure, but they’ll give in as well!

Hmm...maybe. People still know it's COD, they know it'll go on sale a few months after launch. And if they only care about COD, they know that buying it outright is the better deal than paying $20 a month for access, especially if they plan to play it for the year.

Even $190 (COD Day 1 & GP Core for 12 months) is a better deal than GP Ultimate if the person only cares for COD. But I'm guessing MS are hoping most aren't like that, and that most people are so bad/lazy with money when gaming that they'll just get Ultimate for the game.

And that’s due to the factor that MS still wants to charge people money to play online on consoles just like Sony

The biggest scam of video games . Their biggest games don’t even run on their servers .

Just a pure scam. And they can’t do that on PC, so you see the price difference of 10$ or whatever

It’s my number 1 reason why I don’t game on consoles .

Fuck the graphics difference between pc and consoles . Who gives a fuck if it has better texture and 20x zoom or not as clear as the pc version. At the end of the day fundamentally I am playing the same game ( talking about online games )

But you ask me to pay 100$ + per year just to play online ? Shove that console up ur ass one transistor at a time.

It’s bad enough the games on these consoles sometimes twice the price of them on pc if not more, you also want to scam us just to play online.

Right . That mentality from the ice age of Xbox first gen needs to stop

Something is definitely going to have to change about the online paywall next gen. The lack of that paywall on PC, is probably one of the biggest reasons it's been making market share gains against the consoles over past 5 or so years.

Yes a good custom gaming PC may cost more upfront, but if you're a hardcore/core enthusiast chances are you know where to look for gaming deals and maximizing your play time & money. So if you do things even halfway decent (and are okay with your PC games performance potentially degrading faster over time vs. console, if you don't go for an absolute beastly build), you'll save more money going PC long-term.

Nintendo can get away with the online paywall a bit longer because their service is the cheapest by far (it's also the least robust), but Sony & Microsoft? Considering how places like Steam are encroaching on their demographics more and more (I mean look at how badly Xbox has fallen this gen), they'll have to really think about being more competitive in ways like the online paywall.
