Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul live on Netflix [Tonight]

Holyfield did an interesting take of the matchup and i partially agree with him

He said that Jake should keep Mike in close range and wear him down in close range. If he gives Mike space to close the gap from long/midrange game to close... That's exactly where Mike creates momentum for his killers shots.

Anyone that watch boxing for some time knows that he has a point even though it is a dangerous strategy...

Anderson beat former boxing champion Chavez Jr.

Idk I look at the pros that comment on it and I don't know how Paul escapes the first few rounds. I look to the experts. I just don't know who would willingly get in the ring with Tyson even at his age.

Teddy Atlas: "The first couple of minutes could be a little risky for Paul against a guy who was the youngest heavyweight champ and a guy with one of the greatest combinations of speed and power in the history of the heavyweight division. For one or two rounds could it be a little hairy? Yeah. If he don't catch him... then the gas tank starts to putter... then the young man will have the advantage. Even a young man who's far less accomplished in the game... It's not like he doesn't know how to put his knuckles on your face. The question is how much does he have left in his body? 58 (years old) is not the same 58 when I was 21. It's a different 58, especially if they are not testing him." (Seconds Out)

Roy Jones Jr: "I believe in Mike, likely via decision. But if he wants to finish it, he can. Yet, if he's just looking to enjoy the fight, he might take it slow and have some fun... I'm not worried about Mike and his age. Mike is still hard to hit, and he hits like a truck."

Exept the 2 mins ronds, how much will the bigger gloves interfere for example Tyson ko jake? Is it even possible with thoose gloves?

I feel like it just hinges on the the randomness of the day if Tyson or Paul land a king hit or a few combos that make the difference. It's more than enough for me to tune in with my Netflix sub between my kids sports on the weekend. Looking forward to it in fact. Tyson wanted the pay day and spotlight again, Paul wants the spectacle. As long as neither get permanent damage be my guest to fight it out. Interesting fight, more than I can saw for my passing interest in the sport, since growing up with Tyson in when I lived in the states.

As a huge Tyson fan, I wish this fight wasn't actually happening. It's just crazy to me that people are conveniently forgetting that Mike ended his career almost 20 years ago by getting embarrassed by boxers most people had never even heard of - heading into this fight, it's suddenly "once a killer, always a killer". I know Jake Paul isn't at the level of any actual successful pro fighter, but he's young and competent enough to handle anyone pushing 60, even if that person was once the baddest man on the planet.

I would LOVE to be wrong on this and will be rooting my ass off for Mike, but Father Time always wins.

I've heard they're wearing very heavy gloves. Basically cushions.

14oz gloves isn't exactly cushion specially for heavyweights.

I've already did some light sparring with a heavy in 14oz (i'm around 170, the other guy 230), it's definitely not a pleasant experience and it still can ko you with one solid hit

We have to remember that this still is an exhibition with a 58 years old in it.
Nobody wants to see them being cut or something like what happened in Belfort vs Holyfield.

This doesn't look good; I guess Tyson needs the money. It's a shame that after making hundreds of millions, he's now being strung along by some rich kid. That last shot of him sitting on the ground in his last fight was bad enough—getting knocked out by this kid would be worse.

Man Tyson looked ripped at the weigh in, incredible body for his age.
God i hope this is a real fight and not some staged crap. I really want to see that loser Paul get whats coming to him.

He owns a weed company. He isn't broke.

He is a millionaire thanks to his weed company. His money problems are long gone.

this is absolutely amazing. The more I see Tyson talk, the more real he becomes. He's just doing shit he likes to do and he's going to like beating the fuck out of Jake Paul. Jake Paul is looking for reputation, but the only reputation he's going to get is an MRI that states he was in 15 car accidents all at once brought to him by Tyson's fists.

I think Tyson wins on points, 312 to 226 for Paul :p

Hard to imagine netflix making money off this though, are they gonna run ads? Or maybe pay-per-view didn't bite?

I dont blame him for slapping him after you see his foot getting stepped on. A broken toe as silly as that sounds, could make a difference in the ring. Jake was acting like a clown... so he got slapped like one of the 3 stooges.

I would have thought it'll be massive for Netflix - everyone's news feed is fairly curated but from where I sit it's a big, big news story. Sporting events are basically the only linear tv/scheduled events that get people to tune in now, it's why streaming services are looking at doing deals with various leagues and sporting organisations - take a look at Amazon buying up Thursday night Football. I would imagine that Netflix will do alright out of this individual event, but it's surely part of a bigger play that's about making Netflix a destination for sport fans, not a one-off event to make some cash quick.

On topic:

I know nothing about boxing but I can't see Tyson winning this. Watching him walking to the weigh in he looked like a stiff old man.

Watching him walking in with that jacket depicting him in his prime, it looks to me like a guy who's grimly selling the family silverware, going through the routine to get to the payday, rather than someone who's seriously expecting to go out with one last triumph. They'll both make a serious amount of money, but Tyson will be trading his reputation as fighter - Paul will continue on fighting interesting opponents either way.

IMO, Tyson very much the underdog. I would think everyone wants to see him win - Paul isn't particularly likeable as far as I can tell and also as far as I can tell, no boxing fans consider him a serious fighter. So it's hard to imagine many are backing him, but the betting odds show that people must be a decent split of people betting on each fighter.

I hope to be proved wrong, of course, it'd be nice to see the old guy triumph.

clearly you do indeed know nothing about boxing. watch him train.

Tyson absolutely CAN win. Not a foregone conclusion but he can.

This is like a real life version of the rebooted Rocky. Tyson look’s enormous. I’m 43 and I’m lazy and fat. He is older and looks terrifying.
