Rodney making it interesting again.
Jim Thome has officially announced his retirement. He signed a one-day minor league contract with the Indians. The Indians unveiled a statue of Thome at Progressive Field during today's ceremonies.
Thome last played in 2012, split between the Phillies and the Orioles. He sat out the entire 2013 season, but stayed in shape. Thome, who turns 44 on August 27, was also looking for an opportunity this season, but with no interested teams, he has finally decided to officially hang up the spikes.
Originally drafted by the Indians in the 13th round of the 1989 amateur draft, Thome made his MLB debut on September 4, 1991, playing Third Base and batting 7th for Mike Hargove's team. He went 2-4 with an RBI in his first game against the eventual World Series champion Twins in the Metrodome.
Thome played for the Indians, Phillies, White Sox, Dodgers, Twins, and Orioles from 1991-2012. He finishes with 612 career home runs, 337 of them with the Indians, which is still a franchise record. His career slash line is .276/.402/.554. According to Baseball Reference, he finishes with a career WAR of 72.9.
He made the postseason ten times over his career (1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2001, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012), but never won a World Series, despite making it twice with the Indians in 1995 and 1997, who lost to the Braves and Marlins respectively. He was a five-time All-Star in 1997, 1998, 1999, 2004, and 2006.
Baseball Reference estimates Thome made approximately $143 million in his career.
Thome will be eligible for the Hall of Fame in 2017. He has also expressed interest in becoming a big league manager at some point.

People will convince themselves that he was clean and didn't use PEDS because "reasons" so probably, even though far better players will have been left out.

Both should never be allowed to have jobs at this point. Kevin atowers and Gibson have no clue what talent is and have a Dontesk sense of justice. How do towers and Gibson constantly escape punishment for this trash?
I thought there was a mercy rule.
