Monster Hunter: World (PS4/XB1 early 2018, PC later, directed by MH4 lead planner)

I'm so glad they decided to add the DD mechanics to a console MonHun instead of making a new DD.

Not even being sarcastic.

I liked the idea of dragons dogma, but the execution was really rough and I couldnt really get into it, was bored out of my mind a quarter of the way through. I rarely drop games but it was a hard pass after a while lol

I see your opinions can be safely ignored.

Texture wise? Definitely not, the textures arent that great and there are a LOT of them smooshed together. DQXI is spaced out sure, but the quality is the same.

Other than the texture detail level, grass detail, lighting effects, water effects, particle effects, and resolution. Sure.

We dont have the games resolution, water effects have been pretty advanced in games since 1999, the switch is no slouch when it comes to particle effects and resolution can always be reduced, if not the textures can usually take a hit in quality.

So again, show me the receipts, because despite its form factor, the switch aint some cheap tablet.

The rumour said that Capcom were panicking after the level of success of X in Japan and the West, and that was before the Switch turned out to be a huge hit. That rumour said that Capcom were hedging their bets, it seems like they've gone even further that way by calling this 'Monster Hunter World'. Guessing that rather than Portable they've just designated the Switch game to be 5 and this to be the spin-off now.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1381389

This is the rumor discussion thread I can find. So what make people think the rumor tell us MHW is spinoff and new MHP is mainline. If anything, Switch will get a new MH made by MHX team (MHP team) and it will be mostly named like MHX (no number)

I am not saying I BELIEVE THE RUMOUR SO MHW IS A MAINLINE title, I just not understand why people talking like the rumor said MH5 is coming to Swich, because it's not.

The running and bashing is what makes MH good though.

It's like saying you don't want a Devil May Cry game with all the slashing and jumping.
Nah, im dead tired of stupidly running after monsters in critical health. Throwing them down cliffs sounds fun.

The gameplay video is literally still this lol. More setpieces and dynamic elements make the game more engaging fortunately.

Theres barely any hacking and slashing the video though. And those definitely arent setpieces.

I can't even find gameplay footage from DQXI on Switch -- it's all PS4 footage. So what are you talking about?

I really want to get PC version, but might have to settle for PS4 because without any cross play the online community will be dead. Same with Xbox version. With Japan only getting PS4 version that will be the goto destination for Monster Hunter World, sadly.

As the day goes on and I digest the information I become more optimistic

Monster Hunter on PC guys

4 months after consoles I bet

The Technomancer

card-carrying scientician
Making the combat even more dynamic looks rad, although I'll have to feel how it plays

Whatever that Witcher vision stuff looking stuff was is decidedly not

uuh dude. the Switch only has 4GB of ram, and thats overshooting it. it cant handle an open world game like MH world; dont bring up botw because MH world has so much more detail than botw

Something interesting: There isn't a new flagship monster for this game; Rathalos is on the cover and the T. rex seems like a low or mid tier monster.

Hopefully we at least get a few new awesome monsters memorable enough to compare to a flagship.

Terribly boring trailer to introduce your Japan-centric franchise to the western Ps4/Xbox audience. Game is probably fine but they've already started this tricky transition on the wrong foot.

I need this in my life now! Why is the PC version coming later :(

I think the Monster Hunter gameplay will be very appreciated by that audience.

Sorry, Dauntless.

Oh shit, now I feel sorry for Dauntless. Although that game is free to play, maybe it finds an audience.

The trailer was underwhelming despite looking great visually.

How is it looking good visually? It's poorly edited. The running animation of the protagonist is laughable. The texture is bad.

But the gameplay is solid so it's all good.

Im comparing DQXI and PS4 footage. I'm saying MHW doesnt look significantly better than DQXI. I think most people would agree if we take a look.

DQXI benefit from the artstyle. Overall I think MHW still has better graphic, but DQXI looks cleaner.

The extended footage really sold me on the game.

I'm now hyped. Hoping that the gap between console and PC releases isn't too big though.

Anyone who thinks this could run on Switch without significant reductions in effects or resolution is kidding themselves. EDIT: I had a different game in my mind that I thought was DQ11. I can't remember which early announcement it was at the moment, but I'm thinking of a PS4/Switch multiplat that has a particularly heinous picture of an arch.

I can't wait for a real gameplay reveal. The few swings in the trailer looked just like old MH games, so I'm optimistic. But instead of a new feature showcase (I understand why they did this), calm your diehards with sweet, sweet deliberate swings and glorious goofy animations.

God damn am I ready to play in HD graphics with a modern controller.

...ok, but you're comparing it to PS4 DQXI (because they haven't shown Switch DQXI -- only PS4/3DS), so using DQXI to suggest Switch can handle MHW makes no sense

The running animation of the protagonist is laughable.

It's perfect

With it being a spin-off I'm fine and will give it a chance!

Just give us a proper MH5 too Capcom!

You mean "classic" or "handheld" MH. I'm sure they will release that on Switch instead.

World is "proper" MH now. People should not dismiss them finally allowing MH to progress from its PS2 state.

The only thing that might not make this MH5 is content. Redoing all those PS2 quality assets, animations etc is a huge task so I can see World being light on Monsters, gear etc (or maybe via constant DLC support). But who knows, all the weapon types are already confirmed after all.

The trailer and gameplay is plain bad.
I hope we will get more gameplay in the future. Hopefully something that shows that there aren't just dinosaur and lizard styled monsters in the game.

I will wait for the PC version before I make a final statement though.
I already raged on Twitter about MHW, but after sleeping on it for two hours I changed my mind a bit.
I'm not incredibly hyped for it as I would be with regular MH games, but I will follow its future development.

Please don't fuck this up, Capcom. And also give it a bit more color, this isn't 2008 anymore.

I dunno if they're doing stealth it should be better than Metal Gear. I think i'll stick to the Phantom pain if the combat isnt up to snuff

You're not serious, are you?

Usually, we'd be comparing draw distance here lol.
Xenoblade 2 exists as well.

...ok, but you're comparing it to PS4 DQXI so using it to suggest Switch can handle MHW is silly

But DQXI is coming out on the switch and its based off the PS4 version no? So obviously that means that the switch is more capable than people have convinced themselves of otherwise, don't you think? I just think that's weird and people should stop playing such strange games.

This looks very bland and generic. Armor design is boringly restrained as well. Part of the appeal of MonHun is the outlandish armor designs:(

What DQ11 switch? It wasn't shown yet. I think you that need glasses.

A game having it's own identity doesn't mean it's stuck in the PS2 era.

Maybe they just aren't ready to show too many animations (in terms of combat) or maybe they think they should dole it out real slow.

I was expecting a cut to a bunch of spinning sword slashes and what not.

Still, I had been asking for this for some time. I'm very glad they brought it to consoles. Can't wait to see what the final game looks like.

If you've been playing MH for a bit now, even an HD remaster of the 3DS games are a luxury, so I have a feeling this will be pretty sweet. This is the only game series with online play that I even give two craps about lately too.
