The lighthouse

Beautifully bleak, satisfyingly strange and weird
Defoe is at fully Defoeness
Patison weird accent was all over the place, but does a solid performance as usual

Disappointing final scenes

7/10

I watched this on New Year's. I liked it a lot. I especially liked the development midway into the film that both characters, and not just crazy, old Dafoe, are unreliable sources for the audience.. Definitely one of the better movies I've seen recently, especially if you just like watching actors chew the scenery. I've been warming up to Pattinson recently and Dafoe is ofc great in the role.

Watching Flight Risk with the Mrs on Valatines day. Weve been through alot but im not sure we'll last through this.

So bad this could start wars and end people.

Felt like a 90s movie, likeable characters, good enough sci-fi and romance plot, fun action and tbh that's all I need. I liked it a lot

The only downside was the CGI, FFS WHY DO WE NEED CGI EVEN FOR THE SMOKE? Monsters looked unrealistic except one particular action scene with Anya Taylor Joy which shows that if the CGI artists had more time it could have been much better. Backrounds merged awfully with the actors too but honestly if the plot and characters are decent I don't care that much. Recommended especially for a night with your gf/bf

Kinda offtopic but movies like this show how easy it is to to make a decent movie that people like me will like, yet I've been bitching about boring unlikable Hollywood slop for more than a decade. They're that incompetent now

The Thing (1982, dir. Carpenter)
First movie I've seen in UHD. Incredible quality of picture.

Casablanca (1942, dir. Curtiz)
Rewatched. First time I saw it over 20 years ago in home. This time scenery was much better. During trip to Marocco, in bus drive to Casablanca.
Below Rick's cafe in Casablanca, est. 2004. :)

One more for my found footage horror movies pile.

The Lost Footage of Leah Sullivan

Decent but one of those movies where I want to enter the screen and strangle the characters myself. The final 10 minutes are the on-screen protagonist making one extremely dumb decision after another that lead to things that can be easily avoidable by having two brain cells rub together.
Horror in the High Dessert it's free on YouTube watched it recently. I liked it part 2 was not that great. I hear 3 is good but haven't gotten around to watch it.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
Watched Kindergarten Cop last night. First time seeing it since I was a teen, I think. It was really good. I also watched a 70s British horror called The Confessional which was a solid watch.
I love Kindergarten Cop! I know a bunch of people who were kid actors in that movie.

I'm asking for some advice from you movie nerds. I sometimes feel too restless to actually sit down and enjoy just the movie. Instead I start pausing and making something to eat or I start scrolling on my phone. I miss how I was able to fully focus and enjoy a flick by itself when I was younger.

How do you get yourself to be in the right mode and mood for your movie nights?

For me, I have to be in a certain mood to watch something

I find it's easier when it's a show than sitting down and watching a movie

Usually just watch them Friday / Saturday nights because I stay up later then and get time for more things.

A rewatch of Identity on Netflix.

Still enjoyable if you know the "twist".
Reminiscent of Agatha Christie's 10 little Indians with a solid cast.
I love this movie, it's one I've rewatched serveral times and it's always a good ride. Also agree that the cast is spectacular.

Watched this with my daughter and thought it was okay. I was recommended this by a few people who warned me the movie really takes a turn and is not what you think it will be.
While it did take a bit of a turn, I knew it was a horror movie, so I guess I wasn't shocked or upset by the shift. It just ended up being an above-average horror movie.
We enjoyed it, but I kept waiting for some massive twist that never really came. 🤷‍♂️

The Towering Inferno

Crazy to think this film is over 50 years old. Joint produced by 20th Century Fox and Warner Bros, this film pulls out all the stops to provide viewer with danger, excitement and bold firemen. Extremely well nade action drama, with high production values. The only problem was that it didn't have enough story for it's almost three hour runtime and many scenes felt stretched.

It must have been quite an experience for someone who saw this film in theaters back in 1974. I can only imagine.

The Watchers or as it is called here The Watched

Dakota Fanning goes into the woods of Ireland, gets lost and winds up in a bunker with some other people who have to stand before a huge mirrored window each night so whatever is outside can watch them.

I don't think Ireland has many forest and what little it does are modern plantations and not ancient woodland. Ignoring that, the film was crap and the ending was obvious. I don't recommend unless you want to watch a pointless film from M. Night Shyamalan's daughter.

John Marston

GAF's very own treasure goblin
Conclave on Prime.

A very pleasant surprise.
A behind the scenes look at the process of electing a new pope.

Lots of politics & skeletons in closets.
Ralph Fiennes delivers a subdued and great performance.
It was also good to see Isabella Rossellini again.

You gotta be in the mood for it, there are no car chases or shootouts 😄

Watched I'm Still Here last night. A Brazillian film set in 1970 during the military dictatorship. It's got an incredible performance by the lead, Fernanda Torres. Highly recommend checking it out.
