Moving sucks

I’m moving on Friday and I hate moving. I still have about a year left on my current lease, but the owner wants to sell before the local market completely implodes and he offered me 16K to break the lease early so I decided to take the moolah instead of completing the lease.

I’m using part of the cash to pay for movers at least, so no real heavy lifting. It’s the packing and throwing away 8 years of accumulated crap in this place that sucks.

One nice thing is that it is a cash sale, the buyer takes the property “as-is” so I don’t have to clean shit, just pack my things and go.

I should be happy, I’m getting a nice bit o cash, and I don’t have to clean/rehab anything. But still, moving sucks, even under these favorable circumstances.

I would take the money too. Are you in a place where you can afford to buy your own house? You should look into that.

I moved 3 years ago and it did suck. We moved into a larger house and moving again would suck worse.

i moved a few years ago. the worst part is decorating the new house. i hate it. painting is one of the most soul destroying things in the world for me lol.

updating everything with my new address etc wasn't too bad. i am really on top of that sort of stuff. it was a lot of work of course but i was in my element. the truth is i am a very anxious/stressed person at the best of times but one positive of that is i am super organized and on top of things.

it's very exhausting physically too. it was just me and another family member helping to load up the car and van with furniture and shit then doing loads of driving back and forward. could've paid for someone to do it but it was a good opportunity to go through everything and decide if i really need it. my new house is a lot smaller (but makes up for it with gardens) so i had to get rid of a lot of stuff.

while i'd say i had quite a positive experience it's not something i want to do again for a very long time.

Take this opportunity to throw away as much stuff as you can and aim to not fill your new place with junk. Not only does it make the next move much easier, you'll be able to enjoy a nicer storage room or even turn it into a hobby room.

I’m a lifelong renter, owning is a level of responsibility that is anathema to me. I realize that this is insanity to 95% of people and I recognize the value of owning vs. renting, I’m a bit dumb what can I say.
I’m in a weird life position right now too, the girls are 14 and 19 so I’ll be downsizing sooner rather than later.

Oh yeah, I downsize like a motherfucker, I have zero problems getting rid of stuff, there aren’t too many objects that I develop an attachment to.

lol, I don’t decorate at all. The 2400 sq ft house I’m currently renting has two pictures hanging on the walls. One is a painting my old man did in college, and the other is a photo of his dad in the 50’s dressed like a mob guy. Every other wall is sterile and blank as the day I moved in.

The girls will undoubtedly decorate their rooms like they did here, but i generally just don’t bother with that kind of stuff. It drives my mom/family nuts that I don’t.
