..You have a pointI mean the USA does include Detroit, so he's not wrong.

Here is my view of the US:
Dystopian state
Excellent at accumulating capital to maximise shareholders returns
Market is very flexible, people are willing to bet on idea or just "we will figure it out as we go along" (unless you are talking about technical field, best no to play with people's lives there)
Terrible place for everyone below the average in terms of education, resources, wealth, etc.
Americans are kind and friendly people but all that is surface-level
People love guns
Serial murderer or mass pedophile at every corner
Any advice someone (both Freedom People as well as Europeans that moved there) that can give me a rundown of key points I need to pay attention to or that will be a huge shock when coming from Europe?

I never did that, it's like calling French cowards.
At least these do not restrict my movement and not require shots for work.
People love guns
no but your lifetime might be restricted by a trigger-happy cop.
I am actually really tempted to at least try shorting a real gun. As for AK47 - that thing is like a homing missiles in gun form just point in a general direction and shoot, you will hit. Also it never fails and never jams, at least a that’s the reputation in Eastern Europe.Have you ever shot a gun? Shoot a rifle, then shoot some handguns and tell me you don't like them.
I use to have the AK47 that had no sights, and I still never missed. It was beautiful.

Yes. Especially in Texas. I live in Oklahoma and it's the same here. But for me, what that has meant is:
- Maybe a half dozen times in the last 25 years, I've been in a public place and seen someone open carrying a pistol on their hip. For me, it is unnerving when I see that, but the people who open carry are almost always older white men, and they are the least likely group to try and start shit.
If you know what to look for you would likely be surprised how many people conceal carry even in places like WalMartYes. Especially in Texas. I live in Oklahoma and it's the same here. But for me, what that has meant is:

- You never know who is carrying, so again - be warm, polite, and friendly. Given you have a family, you don't sound like the kind of person who's likely to start shit with people, so you'll probably never have an issue.
- Despite the fear mongering from the media and activists: If you're not a mentally unhealthy person who's potentially going to commit suicide, and you're not engaging in criminal activity, and you don't live in a really high crime area, you basically have nothing to worry about. The statistics for gun violence in the US are heavily lop-sided in a couple of different ways.
Anyone can apply, but you are only eligible if your country of origin has a low enough number of residents in the US.Yes, we applied and will know in May.

Honestly I carry 99% of the time I don't care where I go
It started from living out in the country and coming home sometimes late at night and having coyotes in the area and I just got used to having it with me at all times
Wrong, I said: "Texas on the whole is generally conservative/republican, except for Austin."You got called out for saying Texas is conservative/republican except for Austin
Wrong, I said: "Texas is on the whole generally conservative/republican, except for Austin."
I did not say: "Every city in Texas is 100% conservative/republican, excluding only Austin." But that's what you inferred, and you got all pissy. I've been trying to tell you this entire time that's not what I said, but you're not listening.
I singled out Austin because the OP wants to move there, not because I'm shitting on every other part of Texas.
Proud of you, man. You did your own research and found out that "except" and "exclude" are two different words.
What does "except for Austin" mean I'm not a native English speaker maybe your grasp of English is better than mine. Keep digging that hole.
You will need a car. Don’t forget to tip your waiter at restaurants and bars. Can't believe I'm writing this...
There exists a small chance (Green Card Lottery) I will be moving with my family (3 kids) to the US in the next 12-18 months. We don't have a fixed place yet, probably Austin / Texas or North Carolina.

or Smoked out! Not 420 kind lol.Well half of us get tornados or Derechos. If not that, it's really heavy snow or hurricanes. The ones who don't have to worry about that get earthquakes. There aren't too many safe spaces from these. Australia has to worry about fauna trying to kill them. We gotta worry about Mother Nature. lol
More people carrying as well since more States are going to open carry without a permit but you still need a permit to conceal carry which doesn't make a lot of sensePlenty of folks around here carry, but not concealed. Just holstered. Not a big deal to anyone really.
You didn't answer the question. Don't change the subject focus on what you said and the word you used. What does "except for Austin" mean? Explain to me where or how "except for Austin" includes other cities.Proud of you, man. You did your own research and found out that "except" and "exclude" are two different words.
Your next assignment is to look up what the word "similar" means. I'll help:
What does "without being identical" mean?

We are cheating with my wife's country of origin because I am 100% sure you dont't want either Polish or fake French in the US.Anyone can apply, but you are only eligible if your country of origin has a low enough number of residents in the US.
Surprised that no-one brought up the green card lottery with all the H1B stuff as it is not based on any merit criteria and is purely to increase diversity.
I do not agree, but I understand the concept of tipping in the US. I would have preferred the prices to go up and just reflect the salary + tips but it is what it is. I'm not going to give shit to my potential future country. You will need a car. Don’t forget to tip your waiter at restaurants and bars.
Going to be honest, it sounds vaguely arousing.
By dealing with many governments in the past - I know one thing you don't fuck around is all the official stuff. Death, taxes and all that.
No you didn't answer the question. What did you mean when you said, "Austin is a conservative/republican city"? You realize that's not true, right? I thought a native born Texan would know better. You didn't answer the question. Don't change the subject focus on what you said and the word you used. What does "every city but Austin" mean? It is not a troll, but I could have worded the OP in a less antagonistic way, I agree that was a mistake on my part, I apologise. This feels like a bit of a troll... let me see if I remember your lore, mon ami. You're the world's biggest France fanboy, but are originally from Poland, facet? Kind of a discount Chopin?
If things are so great in France just stay there! For my part I keep eyeing places in the US I might move to in order to get away from Nancy's Nephew and ol' Watermelonhead here in Cali but just about everything has gotten super expensive.
The only real tip I have for you is that our food is fake and you need to know secret places to find real food until MAHA fixes it.
Austin's cool, was going to invest in real estate there about 15 years ago but decided not to so whoops I'm not retired now, better luck next life... So anyway, it got expensive. Carolina? Never been.
What you doing for work? Something Work From Home that you're keeping from the old continent? Just looking to show up in the USA one day and offer up your talents to the highest bidder?
I tried Googling it, I don't understand why you would have a Stop sign from every direction. Then again as Eastern European by origin I found French obsession with roundabouts hilarious where you can just have two roads intersection in the middle of nowhere. French will still build a roundabout there just because.I've heard Americans actually obeying 4-way stop signs surprises Europeans. So look out for that I guess?
That's really rude and presumptuous of you to say thatJust know that half of the people do not want you here.
So you're resorting to lying now? Quote my post where I said "Austin is a conservative/republican city" its a place for young white liberal virtue signalers that drives away black and brown minoritiesNo you didn't answer the question. What did you mean when you said, "Austin is a conservative/republican city"? You realize that's not true, right? I thought a native born Texan would know better.
Don't apologize to me, I love antagonism! It is not a troll, but I could have worded the OP in a less antagonistic way, I agree that was a mistake on my part, I apologise.
I see... you're the friendly guy with the promises and then the contract is signed and what the heck everyone is all of a sudden on Pakistan time and I'm desperate to do everything by email so I don't have to try and decode that accent over a Zoom call. Yeah you should do quite well in America. Welcome!I work in IT enterprise sales, almost exclusively with the US prospect atm.
Ha! I didn’t proof read! Meant to say “at least”That's really rude and presumptuous of you to say that
That number is way higher than half
Well I would say we don’t want you if you are going to be on government assistance. But if you work and contribute, no issue.Just know that half of the people do not want you here.
Now you're denying that you said Austin is a conservative/republican city? After all that fuss from you about how Dallas, San Antonio, and Houston are the only blue dots in Texas? Now it's just, "Austin drives away anyone that isn't white"?So you're resorting to lying now? Quote my post where I said "Austin is a conservative/republican city" its a place for young white liberal virtue signalers that drives away black and brown minorities
I never said Dallas, San Antonio and Houston are the only blue dots. You're flat out lying. For the 2nd time I'm asking you to quote my post where I said "Austin is a conservative/republican city". They can be blue AND racistNow you're denying that you said Austin is a conservative/republican city? After all that fuss from you about how Dallas, San Antonio, and Houston are the only blue dots in Texas? Now it's just, "Austin drives away anyone that isn't white"?
Just take the L man. Can't believe a native Texan thinks Austin is red lol.
Have you ever been to a rural area? Or do you get all your info from the internet and 80s movies? I’ve done lots of road traveling and this isn’t even close to being true. Usually it’s nothing but older model vehicles (Camrys, Caravans, various standard pickup trucks) and less shopping and dining selections. Hell, I was in the Appalachian part of Tennessee recently and the gas station I stopped at in the middle of nowhere had an Indian employee. He didn’t seem too inbred or racist to me.Stay away from rural areas at least 20mi outside major cities. That's where typically all the inbred morons in their big pickup trucks live. They're usually racist af and super religious.
Now this one is straight bullshit. There’s a lot to unpack in this small paragraph but nothing about it rings true. Somebody tried buying land with cash and the cops just happened to know where they were with the money and robbed them? They didn’t use a bank and a cashier’s check? Sure, buddy. And jail on bogus charges causing you to get fired? Why would a cop risk getting arrested for illegal arrest charges just to get someone fired? And why would that person even get fired? Cops don’t call your job, that person could call in and say they’re sick.Cops are thugs. They can literally rob you and not give back your money. This is rare but it does happen and it happened to some people near me trying to buy some land with cash. They can throw you in jail on bogus charges causing you to get fired.
This is insanely rare, even less so in the US compared to some other countries. Also keep your bed away from windows because during holidays people will shoot their guns in the air and the next day you see kids died from a bullet that came back down.
It’s cool, we fight back.Australia has to worry about fauna trying to kill them.
I have to ask, where the heck do you live? Some people are genuinely nice. This is typically in the poorer states (red states) though. People are much dumber in these states but help you if you're stranded with a flat tire or if you need food. Rich people are assholes to everyone.
Stay away from rural areas at least 20mi outside major cities. That's where typically all the inbred morons in their big pickup trucks live. They're usually racist af and super religious.
Dont live in the south part of any metropolitan city. It's usually the roughest part of the city. Suburbs are ok.
Everything is going up in price, you'll need to get a decent job to survive. Something at least $20hr.
Our healthcare is awful. Only way to get insurance is through a job or through state welfare. Private insurance you have to pay thousands to meet your decuctible, and 20%-50% of the inflated hospital bill. If you're sick do not move here.
We love food. You'll see fast food, thai, chinese, mexican, bbq, and burger restaurants on almost every major street corner.
We like cars, we dont really have any walkable cities. Our infrastructure is like 80 years behind other countries.
Lawyers love suing people. If you get in a wreck you can get sued. And you can sue whoever you want if you have the money.
Cops are thugs. They can literally rob you and not give back your money. This is rare but it does happen and it happened to some people near me trying to buy some land with cash. They can throw you in jail on bogus charges causing you to get fired.
People love shooting guns. They're fun to shoot. But we dont have gun control so mentally ill people can get a gun easily. Also keep your bed away from windows because during holidays people will shoot their guns in the air and the next day you see kids died from a bullet that came back down.
We definitely have our pros and cons. But it's going to get worse with this kleptocratic government. We're the richest country in the world and people are one paycheck away from losing their homes.
I live in a red state. Rural areas are annoying. Cops would follow me around town (and i'm white with no history of getting in trouble). Dudes in pickups are always riding your ass and drive too aggressively. I had one older guy give me shit because i was wearing a Megadeth shirt when i went to walmart out in the country.Have you ever been to a rural area? There’s also a bunch of other untrue stereotypical comments in there, but I don’t have all day for this so I decided to address some of the more egregious ones.
