Multiple sources are stating Nintendo Switch 2 Reveal is on January 16th

Okay this may just be the copium talking, but if they’re not gonna show new games, my guess is they have something big about the console to reveal.

And since we essentially know almost everything about the console—barring any megaton drop, like a wireless headset peripheral or something—they’ve got to have something that will generate huge excitement. Modern Nintendo isn’t dumb about their reveals, and they know they have to nail this first impression.

So my WILD GUESS is that they’re going to show that not only is the Switch 2 backwards compatible with all Switch 1 games, but that at least all first-party games will get either resolution or performance boosts, or both. Maybe even auto-upscaling for 3rd-party games.

I could easily see them showcasing TotK at 4K60. And maybe even showing off 3rd-party games with uncapped framerates running at 60, with no patch needed.

Who the fuck am I kidding, Nintendo would literally never mention the word “performance” in an official video…

It's how console reveals are done. Xbox Series, Switch and PS5 all had teaser videos focused on hardware too.
I get it, but those new consoles were offering new ways to play or significant upgrades in power potential for a home console.

If the Switch 2 is neither of these then it would be a mistake imo to focus purely on hardware.

What?? Why no games??

Yeah, that's pretty boring, especially after all that time, all the leaks, and just being a Switch Again. On the other hand, if they aren't showing games, maybe we're overconfident that we already know everything about the system.

Edit: saw your copium post after writing this.

We’ll get brief glimpses of new shit in between footage of people interacting with the new console. Like the reveal of the first Switch ..

Man, this really was one of the best reveals. I ended up learning how to play that Zelda piano melody a few days after this reveal dropped cause I watched it so many times. That White Denim song lives rent free in my head, too.

Hell, I even ripped the switch’s “click” sound effect and, to this day, still use it as my text notification sound. (It’s kind of perfect for that, imo.)

Fun fact, the Switch click sound in the reveal trailer is actually quite different from the one they finally landed on a few months later that we hear everywhere now. It was more of a click and less of a “snap”, and had some wild reverb.

This is why them delaying this reveal was just so stupid. Back in October, all I would have wanted from a Switch 2 reveal was to see the hardware, because I was afraid they'd mess it up and add some stupid gimmick to it that would ruin things.

Now that we know the important aspects of the hardware, them basically repeating everything to us will just feel pointless.

Show games, or date and price. We need something new. Otherwise, they're really going to start this off with a whimper.

You know what's really stupid? Announcing a Switch 2 while you're trying to sell Switch 1 and Switch 1 software.

I always wondered why so many thought Wii U was just a new controller and not console, but I rewatched the reveal trailer and wow, it only focuses on the controller. Hopefully Nintendo is able to make people realize it's a completely new console this time.

Edit: It got me thinking. What if Nintendo are madlads enough to have put a 3D screen on it to differentiate it from Steam Deck etc. 3DS was an insane gaming device for its time. Though unfortunately the whole 3D fad is over, but it's fun to dream.

The Wii 'U' was a pretty ambiguous name so it was easy enough to mistake it as just an accessory, and Nintendo's marketing for it simply didn't work. As far as we know the next system is gonna be Switch '2', so even looking similar to the current Switch the average person will understand that it is a distinct console on its own.

Well Switch 2 will just as big a jump from Switch as PS5 was from PS4.

Not that power matters for these teasers anyway. Neither the Xbox Series X reveal or PS5 one showed gameplay. They were just CGI trailers that revealed what the consoles looked like.

A software focus is better served for showcase, when you can show lots of games and large amounts of footage.

I'm still interested in a console showcase.

We actually know next to nothing. Leaks and rumors and speculation are just that. And to the greater public (the ones they need to actually market the device to) it doesn't even exist as a thought yet.

Uh? That's just the quick montage

the reveal was 1h

And finished with one of the most amazing Zelda trailer of all time

Of course, if they split hardware unveil and software completely, who knows

I played like 10 hours of TOTK and dropped it despite loving BOTW. If it will run at 60 and maybe higher ress on switch 2 i might give it another try, but i doubt nintendo will allow that without buying a "remastered" version

Nate is very reliable and Thursday is a day where Nintendo shows stuff normally. Also, splitting hardware and software announcements is a very smart marketing tric. People will be hyped as F while waiting for the next Direct. The internet will be Nintendo's for 2 months in a row.

Nintendo playing this one very smart.
I mean it’s just using the same playbook as they used for the first Switch. Not anything unexpected nor revolutionary. First you tease the hardware, then you do a big blowout six weeks later and give everyone the details on launch games, date & price. 🤷‍♂️

Thursday seems as good as a day as any. Next week is US holiday and the inauguration, then you’re up against the Xbox Direct. So if they want a week all to themselves, this is the one.

How many people would pay $70 all over again for a slightly upgraded TotK is the question. Or maybe they’ll do a small fee like PlayStation does for the next-gen upgrade? Or build in upgrades like Xbox Series does? Hmmm. Neither of those seem likely but then Nintendo has been on point for nearly a decade now, so 🤷‍♂️

The funniest part of all this will be when they say "no backwards compatibility" and "new games are $89.99" and the first releases are BotW and Mario Kart remasters at full price.

Nintendo already confirmed backwards compatibility. The only things we officially know about the console are that it will play Switch 1 games, support Switch Online, and be revealed before the end of March.

Doesn't that add even more to my point considering we already know what the console looks like? If they are truly launching in Mar-May why NOT give us a blow out like they did with Switch1?

Christ they already have Switch 2 SKUs in Gamestops system and we can't even get a fucking price reveal or a few game announcements??

The first reveal only worked so well before because the system was a complete unknown, so a teaser to kick off worked. We already know what the system looks, and even the dang motherboard inside of it. To do a "teaser" after blueballing your fans and consumers for at least a year would be dumb and hype deflating, especially if it's launching in 2 to 4 months.

Because it's not an either/or thing. They can do a teaser video a few months before launch (like the Switch) and then have a showcase a few weeks before launch (like the Switch).

It worked with Switch 1, so they are doing the same again.

The teaser video in Jan doesn't prevent or replace the showcase in Feb/March. If there was no teaser this week, we'd still be waiting for the showcase.

I would laugh so hard if the hardware ends up being something completely different from what all the leaks suggested.
This happened with the original Switch, although I don’t remember as many photographic “leaks”. Most of the speculation was inaccurate or off. This does feel a bit different though in terms of the consistency of the leaks. We’ll soon see, hopefully.

What does everyone think about the release date, if it is revealed on the 16th? March?

So now it’s not happening this week. They shouldn’t have leaked it, it wouldn’t be the first time Nintendo delays a presentation, because the date has been leaked…

Is there enough difference in hardware from Switch 1 to Switch 2 visually to not show any games for a reveal trailer? Especially since Nintendo never talks specs?

Lets say Nintendo doesn’t show any games, the FLOODGATES WILL BE OPEN

3rd party software announcements, preorder leaks, all that will be announced immediately. Publishers have been waiting delay after delay to announce their games on S2 and they don’t need a Nintendo event to do that. We may not know first party game announcements, but prepare for 3rd party gigaton showcases. Including from Microsoft :). Nothing is holding back this hype train. Exciting times.

And what I'm saying is that I don't think the Effect of a teaser will be the same. What's to tease? It worked before because the circumstances were MUCH different. No one knew shit about the system.

They need a showcase to drum up real hype and excitement at this point. No one cares about what it looks like at this point.

The only thing people want to know; are what's the last few unknown features, the price, launch and games coming. The things they showed in the showcase.

They can reveal:

1. What it looks like
2. What it's name is
3. What the new features are
4. What some games will look like on it
5. When it will launch

Right now me and you only know the answer to the first two questions. But mainstream audiences don't even know that.

Plus once the official reveal is done, that opens the door for third parties to make announcements.

I don't see them revealing it without the gameplay features. Nintendo is all about games, it's not like the specs are going to be meaningful to anyone.

It's prob gonna showcase games like Switch 1 reveal. I'm just happy it's finally happening. Hope Metroid is a launch title and that you can transfer over vouchers.

Yeah,I don't care anymore, I've seen the damn thing already in the 100 leaks we've had since last year. They missed that boat...but I sure can't wait to see the awkward "are you excited" to see it segment of the direct as clueless Nintendo always does when anyone remotely interested in this thing has seen it already.

I'm just interested in seeing what games they announce. The console reveal part excitement is 0 at this point.

indeed. I doubt it will be without gameplay. they will probably release a video very similar to the Switch 1 reveal trailer. where they show all the new hardware features (C button, optical sensor on the Joyoncs, new Joycon clip-on mechanism etc.) and do so while showing people play games on it.

in the Switch 1 reveal trailer we saw many new games and ports. Skyrim, Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Splatoon 2 and NBA.
so in this reveal I bet we will see one of the launch titles being played in short clips, maybe even gameplay of the next 3D Mario like last time... and probably LOTS of third party ports to show that it's capable of playing current gen titles

Possible but I don’t see Nintendo not giving up free $ in remakes. But it’s my biggest want I have such a back log it would be a major plus!

It'll just be 10 minutes of them pointing out the 2 on the various hardware components to make sure people don't mistake it for an accessory or upgrade a la Wii U. =P

Seriously though, I'm hoping for an in-depth look at the new features in action and a few seconds pf clips from various games for us to over-analyze and fight over. Basically, keep the ride going for a few weeks until the big reveal.

I can imagine one of these 3rd party games will be COD...
