Multiple sources are stating Nintendo Switch 2 Reveal is on January 16th

Focusing on hardware surely doesn't mean no games, perhaps just no new announcements and teases of unannounced games instead. I can see them wanting to give a new 3D Mario the spotlight seperately, but they can't do that when the console hasn't been revealed.

No doubt they want us to speculate over a few seconds of different franchises.

The big difference this time is the new feature is...it's the same, but better. So maybe they confirm Prime 4 is cross-gen and highlight enhancements on Switch 2. That wouldn't be very Nintendo, but it's been a while since their main sell has been the new device is more powerful than the last one.

One thing that we need to remember in regards to the Switch 2 reveal is that this is a different Nintendo; a fat, happy, profitable Nintendo coming off of their most successful console ever. The 2017 Switch launch lineup was shockingly good; but this was Nintendo in a humiliated and humble state, backs against the wall, coming off the unmitigated disaster of the Wii U. Will Nintendo be able to stay hungry and “wow” us with another BOTW/Mario Odyssey style launch lineup?

Or could this be what was originally promised with the “Switch Pro” rumors? Back-compatibility with Switch 1, offering superior performance on supported Switch 1 games and “better” performance on Switch 2 games but with games releasing on both Switch 1/2 for the foreseeable future?

Nintendo has many teams that haven’t released any bigger titles in a few years. They be cooking good I’m sure. 3D Mario should be at least launch window.

the Mario Odyssey devs haven't really shipped a full blown game since 2017, they only made stuff and helped on a smaller scope, so I think they will have something ready for the first year of the Switch 2.

Metroid Prime 4 will be cross gen for sure.

and at launch Mario Kart 9, the successor to one of the best selling games of all time.

I feel like they will be probably fine with these 3 as their standout titles, and will probably have smaller ones in-between those releases to keep the flow going.

maybe ARMS 2? I loved the concept even tho it got stale fast. but a more fleshed out sequel that feels more substantial would be amazing imo.

and there will be Pokemon Z-A of course, which will probably at least be Switch 2 enhanced, or also fully cross gen. and Pokemon sells... the Wii U didn't have Pomemon, which that alone is a huge difference maker I feel.

Arms came from the same production group as Mario Kart. So I see Arms 2 only being a thing if they got support from an external studio.

probably 2 guys sitting on a park bench, or in a plane playing CoD Zombies together... calling it now!

It'd be fun if they'd spice that up a bit.
Scene one: Two serial-killers in a Scandinavian prison laughing and playing Mario Kart together on a 4K TV. Two arsonists walk in smiling and pick up their controllers.
Scene two: Two men laughing and playing CoD on the Switch screen in nature. Picture zooms out, they're real soldiers in the trenches during a war. Their superior is screaming at them, but once he sees the Switch 2 he smiles at them.
Scene three: A woman is riding on a bus playing Zelda. She jumps off and walks up the street. She takes out a gun from her bag and assassinates a business person. Next we see her smiling and laughing playing Zelda on a TV in her dark safehouse.

All with this music playing:

This is what I hoped for Arms 2: A more fleshed-out Arms 1.
They’d have to change it up fundamentally for me to be interested again I think. The whole ‘fighting from a distance’ thing isn’t all that exciting imo.

I did love the art though. There are fantastic character designs in that game.

I bought a PS5 Pro, but I think that might be the last of any, I guess I would call it traditional console I'll probably own. With the Steam Deck and Switch, and upcoming Switch 2, I really don't see a need for a PS6, etc. Hell, most of my PS5 playtime is via remote play on my Steam Deck at this point.

Isn't it usually the case that when a direct happens, Nintendo makes an announcement about the direct a day or two before? If by Thursday morning we haven't heard anything, then I guess we can conclude this won't happen on Thursday.

This is why them delaying this reveal was just so stupid. Back in October, all I would have wanted from a Switch 2 reveal was to see the hardware, because I was afraid they'd mess it up and add some stupid gimmick to it that would ruin things.

Now that we know the important aspects of the hardware, them basically repeating everything to us will just feel pointless.

Show games, or date and price. We need something new. Otherwise, they're really going to start this off with a whimper.
You know what's really stupid? Announcing a Switch 2 while you're trying to sell Switch 1 and Switch 1 software.
Nah, I don't think either move is stupid.

I think they are right to delay a reveal if they don't have everything in order, they must show their best hand.

I also don't think anything is wrong with announcing Switch 2 while selling Switch 1 and Switch 1 games, how else are they going to fucking reveal this thing? lol They know they will lose a bit in sales on Switch 1, like ok...we know 2 is coming in a few months, thus lets not buy 1, but the money will still go to Nintendo.

Switch 2 is BC to Switch 1, thus ask Danjin44 Danjin44 and Thick Thighs Save Lives Thick Thighs Save Lives if Switch 2's reveal is stopping em from buying XCX Definitive Edition remaster. They can play it on Switch 2, I'm sure we'll all buy Switch 2 software too, but I don't see how they have anything set up now, as a bad thing

They are trying to sell both and so long so you buy a Switch regardless if its 1 or 2, Nintendo don't care

Nintendo wins regardless, so I think they are ok here

lol same

I'm just here for the Xeno series and Animal Crossing and what ever remasters and remakes they do.

It won't get revealed this week unless they announce it within the next 53 minutes. Normally they announce a reveal 2 days before at a maximum of 1800 CET and it's mostly always on Tuesday or Thursday.

Still no tweet from nintendo. I doubt they just shadow drop the thing on thursday
They'll send out something like 24h before, maybe even less. I don't think just dropping without warning is out of the question either, all eyes are on them so they don't need to warm the public up to the first look.

I always dreamed the would turn it into a 3v3 or 5v5 arena brawler/shooter. Call me crazy, but the first had the feel of going 1v1 in an acrobatic fps way more than a fighting game, IMO.

Give me the same basic mechanics in Halo-eque arenas with respawning limited-use power arms distributed around the map, and allow for the grab move to be used for traversal (by grappling statues). All in all, I think it would make for an insanely fun and chaotic multiplayer experience. Would work really well with the rumored mousecon too.

Using that setup as your base, the campaign could be a corridor brawler taking out mobs capped off by boss fights in those same arenas. It could even have co-op.

Never going to happen, but I can dream...

So nintendo is just going to drop a press releaase and recorded video?

Cant say im surprise if Switch2 is just upgraded Switch1...

For the OG Switch they dropped a trailer that was basically an extended commercial followed by a full presentation a few months later. If this rumor is true, it looks like they're going to repeat that strategy. And as much as I just want them to announce fucking games already, I can't really blame them, given how successful that approach was with the Switch.
