My Dachshund Of 16 Years Has Gone Missing & Possibly Passed

My dachshund that my dad had for 16 years has seemingly passed away.

She looked very sick for the past couple of months but she was eating.

Somehow she got out over a week ago and she has been gone for days and I've done everything I can looking for her and I'm afraid she curled up somewhere and passed away.

She's gone. It hurts so bad. I thought I heard a noise where she used to sleep last night and I looked over and she wasn't there.

Then I noticed her toy in front of the television set. I really lost it.

It feels horrible right now. She was so loving and kind. I've spent years with her and taking care of her when my dad was sick. When my father passed away, I took care of her myself and that was about 2 years. She's gone now and I feel so alone.

That sucks. Pets often go somewhere secluded to pass when they feel it near.

Not that you need any more stress in your life but hopefully she's up there with your dad now.

You still have that crazy and abusive roommate? Time to take out all your grief and frustration on that person for a change.

Get ready for this....

My roommates best friend is blaming me for the dog going missing and possibly dying. My roommate probably has the same opinions.

I'm sorry to hear. If she did pass away, hopefully it was in her sleep and peaceful. Take the time you need to process it.

When my wife and I had to put her cat down, it was horrible. When we got home from the vet, we both laid down on our bed for a bit. Not too long into laying down we heard a meow by our bed. It was real; we both heard it and asked each other if we just heard a meow.
Part of us thinks it was the cat's last goodbye to us. It was so weird, makes me think about what's beyond this plane of existence.

So sorry as it hurts a lot losing a fur baby

When one of my Dobermans passed all she wanted to do was go lay outside by our back door and just look out at the fields as she and her brother LOVED watching the wildlife

One day we knew she was feeling even worse and we had even called our vet to go in that evening as we knew it was time but so did she as she vanished

We looked nearby around the house but never found her and let her rest likely in the woods near the house

You have my sympathy

What time is it?
We had a Saint Bernard growing up that, when it was her time to go, found a ditch at the rear of our two acre property. We did end up finding her while still alive and took her to the vet (with help from the fire department), but she didn't last long afterwards and her final days were filled with a lot of assistance (she needed two people and a towel under her chest just to stand). It probably would have been better to let her go on her own terms.

Sorry to hear, anything dog related always makes me sad, one of the few things I genuinely love in this world.
Yeah it's been about 10 days now. I still haven't given up looking for her but I know she was very sick. I'm really hoping somebody took her in and maybe got her some help even if I don't see her again. I just can't bare to think she is lying somewhere passed away all alone.

I literally feel sick thinking about it everyday.

That super sucks buddy! Had an English springer spaniel for 11 years and when she passed away she left the house and made a bed in the woods behind our house.

Very sorry your dad lost his pup but it sounds Ike it had an amazing 16 years!

My father was 86 years old when he passed away on November 19th of 2022. It was just days before his favorite holiday which was Thanksgiving Day.

When he got sick the past couple of days, all the nurses told me he was going to die within a few days so it was expected. That did not lessen the blow.

I knew my dog was sick but I had no idea when she was finally going to pass out. I kept figuring 3 months or 4 months at the most and maybe sooner so it was very confusing. I just did not expect her to get out one day, be unresponsive and just totally lost. That was on March 8th and it is now March 18th. 10 whole days.

I just got a guy here who went around my complex with his dog seeing if he or his dog could smell anything rotten or any decomposition and he said neither he nor his dog could smell it so it might not have passed out underneath my trailer.

It's still not closure.

Somebody may have taken the dog.... BUT.... If the person who taken this dog is someone with a good heart and good resources, it will be a miracle if they could fix her up or at least extend her life a little longer. Bonus is that they would be able to get in contact with me somehow.

These were the any creatures that truly love me. True unconditional love. There's nobody in the world whether it is family or friends who are so as much love as a dog. I feel I lost everything I love now. It feels like a hole in the heart. It's physically sickening.

Losing a pet is hard.
Losing my father was a real hard. And by that I mean really, really hard.

In fact if I didn't have my roommate here after losing my dachshund, things might be a lot worse.

This is not a time for me to be alone right now.

I've had a lot of friends over the years but none I miss more than my ex's dachshund. Real loveable fella.

I hope you find closure OP. Maybe you should ask your neighbours if they've seen anything? Maybe someone took him in?

I've done that and more. I have even contacted animal control and the animal foundation. I crawled underneath my house to see if she was there. I get a whole lot of things but nobody has seen her.
