NeoGaf OLED owners thread

Good choice. There are no “potential negatives” or “confusing caveats” with this TV. You just connect your console, set picture to game mode, and play. If you have a PS5, the console automatically calibrates HDR with this TV.

But this doesn't mean auto settings will actually be the best:

Gaf bros ... what would be the biggest graphical and noticeable leap in presentation?

Playing a PS5 Slim on a 65in LG C3 OLED... compared a Hisense 55in U7K (LED 144hz, VRR, HDR)

or

Playing a PS5 Pro on the aforementioned Hisense U7K?

Saving up for either a Pro or a newer tv and was wondering which would provide the bigger "wow".
Contrast is a big differentiator for perceived image quality for human eyes. I would say go with the TV as you will probably use that when the next console comes around.

I'm not even an OLED purist but the TV will hands down be the better upgrade. Just the size difference alone is going to make a difference and adding in the image quality is going to blow you away. Bonus, you can use the TV for other content.

Can we expect to see OLED TV prices come down?

How about smaller sizes?

I’d kill for a 32” for the bedroom.
Wait for black friday and Christmas sales at this point for best deals.

For the bedroom maybe an LG 42" C3 which I've seen go for low as £620'ish. And may drop lower.

As for 32" OLED TV's. There aren't any. There is the Samsung G8 GS80SD (I have one) which is a 4K QD-OLED monitor, with a remote + Tizen. Which essentially functions like a TV with smart apps, without an ariel for live TV. But that is currently over a £1000.

Man, C3 + PS5 Pro would be a dope combo. Can you trade in/sell PS5 to save some money?

If you have to go one at a time, 55 inch to 65 inch will be a bigger "wow", let alone it is from LED to OLED.

Sadly, I don’t think I could buy both at the same time. Hoping to get a good deal on the tv around Black Friday otherwise it’s probably just the pro around Christmas and the tv sometime early next year.

When’s the best time usually to buy a tv?

TV upgrade will be better on most things, the size upgrade is a big deal(especially if you aren't only using the TV to game on). PS pro down the line for the extra crispy IQ and framerates.

Black Friday you can get some discounts on TVs but it's usually the shitty ones that have the best deals. Usually you get good deals around CES when they announce the new models for the year or on Amazon prime day

Normally it is Black Friday and April/May.
April/May is usually when they have new year's models and heavily discount previous year's. I think if you wait till next year, you should be able to get some good deals on C4.

As an addendum don't be afraid to shop open box at box stores like microcenter. Got my Sony OLED at almost half off MSRP, got an extended warranty on top and haven't had any issues.

Came from a LED 55 Samsung NU8000, which is very decent 2018 TV despite not even having Quantum Dot (it even has 120Hz panel) and now i recently got a 55 OLED LG B4...and im very happy with the upgrade. The most noticeable bump in image quality is with Dolby Vision content and gaming related, with my PS5 even from the home menu you can tell the difference...But the games in which ive seen the bigger upgrade are Gran Turismo 7, RE 4 remake and, believe or not, the PS4 remaster of Doom 3 (becuse its a darker game, so those infinite blacks pretty much sums up to the atmosphere). Also i've played Swich and PS3 on there, and i like the results, but isnt as staggering as when i play PS5 or Dolby Vision content.

In the interest of stopping misinformation, I personally tested this on my A95K. Reset the connection, the PS5 informed me that be optimal settings were made. I checked each setting and it is absolutely spot on. Both whites are correct and black is at zero as expected.

Consider this...

Well I should be the owner of a 65A95L now, but Amazon decided to send me one out that had clearly already been opened (the bags sliced open, things peeled off where they should have been, dunno why there were 2 remotes but it was all shoved in a bag and wrapped up roughly and stuffed into a void in the polystyrene. Looking at the outer box there's clearly been other banding on it and there's been labels removed that look about the same size as the Amazon one with my address on.

FFS, buying something for that money I want to be the first person to see it after it leaves the factory, not something some scrote's mauled and fucked with. Didn't even take the TV out, didn't even want to see it, fuck knows what it's already had done to it or what state it's in. They're coming back for it in 2 days and refunding me once they get it. PITFA.

EDIT: FFS, I just came back to add more and posted by mistake. So I looked at an unboxing on one of the Sony channels and that 2nd remote thing shouldn't be there (duh, obviously, it's some cheapo universal remote), it's also missing the cover plates and the camera. Fucking scum cunts.

Why would they even ship out something like that? Was it a third party seller?

I've always bought my TVs from shops in the region. Lower price than online, free delivery, and the drivers stay until you open and power on the TV before they even leave.

I have 42" LG C2 that I bought for PS5 to improve console gaming 2 years ago. Also bought LG S95QR 1 year ago to improve my console gaming as well. In one time I tried both of them for PC but the delay I got from the sound system was so bad that I stopped trying.

Lately I just tried my OLED TV as my PC monitor. Everything was good and all but again, the C2's aggresive auto dimming was so bad that I couldn't take it after 1 day and put my LG GL850B monitor back. OLED's are awesome but their "protective" auto dimming feature is so distracting, at least on C2.. At console gaming maybe I don't notice it too much but on PC it is unbearable.

I use an LG C1 for PC gaming and have never noticed any dimming. Maybe because I am not just idling on the desktop? Just regular file copying, downloading torrents, playing games. Did the same with my C9 and Mac mini. Not once in my life have any of my three OLEDs performed any dimming except when I left them idle while getting food or whatever.

Well I don't know. Maybe my eyes are too sensitive about these kind of things. I can call myself a liiitle bit power user on PC and I tried lots of things but didn't get good results. Even in games when the camera turns to bright scenes like sky, my C2 dims the whole screen so aggresively, I couldn't take it. Shame because I love OLED's superior colors and blacks. My monitor is not half bad for me for colors but it is an IPS monitor in the end and not generating good blacks.

Oh well, what's done is done. I'll keep using my usual monitor on PC and C2 on console gaming.

Can’t Git Gud
Important update for 48" c1.
Just hit 10k hours and another pixel refresh 2 days ago. TPC and GSR disabled 6k hours ago.
No burn in whatsoever. Still looks brand new. It's the WBE evo panel if I am correct.

BTW, I've not updated it in over a year. Anything important? Does new update reenables tpc/gsr?

And have anyone decided on best input label for ps5 pro? I am using my usual pc input label for now.
I wish ps5 home screen was in 120hz, so it would stop changing 60-120fps long blank screen whenever you start or close a game

I recently went to a display centre and saw the s95d
My god who the fuck thought that Matt display was the right decision the blacks literally looked like grey and feels like the screen absorbs the light in the room with this very LCD like image like it's blooming from all sides

Picked up a 65" Samsung S90D last week after my 55" TCL of 8 years developed insanely loud, high-pitches coil whine that made watching movies and playing games virtually impossible to stand.

This S90D is far and away the best tv I have purchased. The colors pop and the viewing angles are extremely good. It was either this one or the LG C4, but the S90D was just better in every facet that is important to me, at least. I cannot recommend this one enough!

I have a CX 65 from 2020 and someone is interested in buying this thing from me for 1000€

A friend of mine would sell me his lg oled77c28lb for 1300€

Shall I make this deal?

For those looking to upgrade, I would actually do it around spring/summer as retailers are clearing out their previous year models. These deals are better than Black Friday. For example in Canada, a 65" C3 was selling for $2,000 - $2200 ($2,400 regular price) during Black Friday. However during spring after the C4 started shipping, retailers were selling them below the $2,000 mark. Some Costco locations even as low as $1400.

IF you play mostly in dark rooms or with very few lights

In bright rooms or with lights, W-OLEDs are better
That would have to be one hell of a bright room. Like an operating room or literally sitting in a gazebo outdoors.

I use a QD-OLED (Sony A95K) in a room with two windows and patio doors. I don't even have drapes, just curtains that block maybe half the light. I usually only close the curtains directly behind me.

i went into the service menu to turn off the auto dimming on my C2.
voids warranty so do at your own risk.
i havent had any issues.

Yes I did that as well but in actuality TPC and GSR disabling in the service menu do not turn off auto dimming. It just prevents dimming the screen after certain time.

I checked it like this: Opened up white page in the desktop. Gradually increased its size. And after certain threshold (I think it was about the %45 or %65 of the screen size) the screen gets dimmer. So it is true that you cannot turn off auto dimming in LG C2.

Something interesting I learned is that there's a very limited amount of media player hardware on the market that will play all Dolby Vision profiles (like profile 7 encodes). I'm using an Ugoos AM6+, dual booting into Linux with a modded version of Plex on my LG G4. There's a google doc that shows which players have support for which profiles; https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...MCDlUiLHU9n1f_S74/preview/sheet?gid=427220017 A lot of players that say they support Dolby Vision don't actually do all DV profiles, so the player will fall back to standard HDR or something and you won't get the full glory of Dolby Vision.

Definitely recommend the Hue Sync HDMI Box or similar ambient lighting that syncs to HDMI. Some might argue that the light behind the TV would be a detriment to your TV's contrast/black levels, but I honestly couldn't go back to watching TV without the light immersion of my hue play gradient strip. I don't use it for games that require very low latency like rhythm games or parry games because the input lag introduced is noticeable for those applications.

I've been using Home Assistant to automate a lot of TV stuff lately. You can get toast notifications on your TV from your other IOT stuff (ex; notification on door/window sensors, CCTV intruder detection, washing machine being done, spouse almost home, etc). I'm using a Broadlink IR sensor and able to control my TV from my phone and have different volume levels I can jump to with a single button press. Also, made my regular TV remote a super smart remote - I don't use Netflix, so I have Home Assistant detect when I press the "Netflix" or "Disney+" buttons on my remote and it opens a different input combination instead (ex; PS5, a media player, a CCTV feed via TV web browser, etc).

I kind of want to upgrade from my LG C9 but can't really justify it for a side grade. I use it as a PC monitor, why wont it burn in already!

Agree wholeheartedly. Picked one up a few months ago. It truly is a very special TV. I adore it. Best TV purchase I've ever made.

Does anyone know if newer generation OLEDs are less likely to have the VRR flicker? I am thinking about RMAing my monitor I bought back in like April or May. The moment I turn on gsync , most games become a gamma strobe show hurts my eyes and eventually my brain.

I have S95C. I don't see any VRR flicker.

Have it on my C9, C1, and A95K. It's unavoidable with any OLED. You could go for months without coming across it, when suddenly you have a game where it is very prominent. Like homeboy here who claims he doesn't see it on his Samsung, I would have also said the same about my Sony. Then I played Lies of P.

It manifests when you have a constant and rapid change of framerate within a few fps. For some reason, Lies of P hovers within a few FPS range and it flickers like mad. I actually had to disable VRR for this game. I've never seen it on the Sony otherwise.

GT7 brought it out on my LG C9. I recall I also saw it on some menus in other games like Warzone. Anything with a grey background running at max FPS.

I don't know how current LG panels hold up, but my Sony QD-OLED certainly seems more resilient. As far as I know, it's impossible to complete avoid on OLED technology.

It's alarming how many people seemingly choose the C3 or C4 over this model, when in all actuality, the S90D (even S90C) blows them both right out of the water.

WOLED is old news.

How is motion interpolation on Samsung OLEDs if you set it at 1/10? For movies I mean. Is there any stutter or visible motion "speed" changes from scene to scene? I wonder how does it compare to LG's Cinematic Movement when set to minimum.

I keep it at 2/10 in Filmaker. I feel it sufficiently reduces judder, without being soap-y.

the pro is glorious with my a95L bur fellas i have one issue with this tv, why does it sound like the tv speaker is buzzin or distoring in loud game environment, for example in hell let loose you can hear the tv speaker almost distoring or buzzing
