NeoGaf OLED owners thread

I remember my Philips having similar issue. Still remember the warning about not holding the panel in case it breaks as its fragile, yet instructions showed lilting the set out of the box holding the panel? I ended up holding the box at an angle over a bed so the TV would slowly slide out onto the mattress
My 65" Philips OLED had clips thankfully. But I'm noticing smaller sizes, even 55" dont have them. The Samsung 85" I tried, not only had you slide the sleeve off over the top like most larger sizes (which can become a problem due to height). But had the TV then sit on its foundation blocks at the perfect height to then fix the base stand. Like all these things, I usually find I'm an expert by the time I'm finished and broken something.

Got a 55" lg c3 2 months ago, best TV i've owned, HDR content is so pleasant to look at, never had a screen like this, come from a cheap qled, big jump in image quality I just hope I don't get weird issues, so far so good.

Most if not all TV's I've bought (which is a lot) usually have clips or some release mechanism which allow the main bulk sides covering sleeve to slide off, leaving the TV in place on its foundation blocks.
Must be a shitty Eastern Europe package then. The back of the TV is not like in the tutorials I watched. Anyway we got it done, nothing cracked, image looks so good I can't even imagine what proper calibration will do.

Anxiously waiting to see how my 3080 works with it... I'm new to VRR and all that.

I use a 3090 with my Philips which gives it 'Gysnc' compatibility so you get LFC and a range from 24-120 instead of the usual VRR range. I assume most TV's released in the past couple of years will be the same (y)

3080ti works amazing with Gsync on LG B2.

Alright guys, hype for the LG G4 is growing but it is a bit out of my price range. Do you think the 55 inch C4 this year is a good substitute or something else?

Sometimes when i start a game on series x i am getting no signal on the tv, so i need to reset the console and everything is fine. Its really annoying that happens often.
Also if i turn on the tv and then start the xbox i am getting 640x480 resolution so i have to setup everything again in the settings. I am using lg c3 with the latest firmware.

This is an LG + Xbox problem and has seemingly been around for years.

Power on the TV by pressing the remote's input button rather than power button, switch to the Xbox input (or make sure it is on that input), and it will automatically power on the Xbox after a few seconds. You should have hdmi-cec enabled on everything.

Warning here, LG fucked one aspect of my B2 with the latest firmware 13.30.61.

I heard about VRR flickering issue way before buying tv and I was surprised that this issue was almost non existent on my tv - it only was visible on loading screens in some games, but then new update happened two days ago...

They overhauled main meny and start screen, added 4:4:4 pass through and convoluted some options in game mode but worst thing is that tv now shows vrr flicker in every game with HDR mode, only solution to this is to lock framerate to 50, 60, 100 or 120fps. This is true for both PC and PS5, in games with unlocked framerate (like unchated 4 on PS5 or spider man) it can be easily seen.

SDR vrr still works fine! What a bunch of fucks at LG, I hope they will fix this shit (I emailed them yesterday but I doubt they will read it). I don't know if other tvs other than B2 are affected but C2 and G2 probably got the same update.

Get the G3 or the s95c instead, it's a slow year in terms of improvements 👍

Question I got LG c2 and want to play FF7 rebirth on performance mode. Any optimize settings to make it look decent/not blurry?

After using the LG C3 for few months I must say that I am a bit disappointed with the picture quality.
For reference I have another TV, Sony x900f which i bought a year after it came out.

I have followed a guide to setup everything for sd and hdr movies and also sd and hdr gaming, I followed this guide:

AFvRO8o.png

and although the movies and games look great somehow the image looks dim.
I have tried many movies in hdr and i was always disappointed with the image. I would play the same movie on my Sony TV and it would look better. Also playing hdr games (on series x and PC) have the same problem, it looks very dim, yes some of the highlights like glowing light bulb and some smaller things are bright but the whole image doesn't really gets bright enough.
Overall when watching movies or playing games i still prefer sony, and i regret buying lg even though lg has more features (vrr, gsync, 120hz).
I learned the hard way, I will never buy another oled ever again.

The remote on my C1 has been saying it's running out of batteries for 3 months.
I know I'm being dumb and should just replace them , but it annoys me that despite the constant complaining they never seem to actually run out.

I read somewhere people saying it looks a bit better increasing the "super resolution" option.
But I don't know if it's true as I don't own the game. It's probably going to look blurry no matter what, that's just how Square made it.

I love the OLED monitors, currently using the new LG 4k 32" 240hz monitor but when I comes to TVs I prefer a much brighter picture and a better HDR experience as well. (My personal taste, not attacking anyone who loves their OLEDs)

somehow the image looks dim.
That's because it is.

I went from a Sony 900e to the LG C9 and the LG was like candlelight compared to what the Sony could put out. At the time, Uncharted 4 was my benchmark. Explosions and fire in Uncharted on the Sony looked like fire. It could make you squint. Nothing on my C9, C1, or even my newest Sony a95k has given me that feeling.

However, the 900e had two critical flaws that made OLED worthwhile: glowing halos around text caused by the full array LED, and LCD blur. The pixel and input response is also near-infinitely faster on the OLED.

So, I suffered the "downgrade".

Question, do you have ff7 rebirth? If you do, can you try playing it on 1080p mode on the Lg oled and see if it’s still blurry?

I have an LG C3 and yes, the performance mode is awful there, too.

Gotta go 30fps, unfortunately. It is just a much better experience given how pretty the game often is.

Some strange shit going on with my Sony A95K lately.

So basically I want to power it on via the remote, and the TV just doesn't do that at all. I do see all the lights on the remote buttons lighting up, so that works. But the TV does not respond.

I then have to unplug it and back in, and then I can power it on again. This is now twice in less than a week. If this keeps on I'm gonna contact the store, in July it will be one year old and I have extended warranty at the store too.

Have you tried waiting? Something like that happened to me but it was due to being the first time booting up after a firmware update. An update was just released recently.

But that can't be it because I don't have auto update for firmware enabled.

Next time it happens I'll wait a bit longer though. I wish the TV itself had a power button, so that I could also try it that way without always having to fully unplug it.

And it happened again. It just would not power on at all. This time I waited like two minutes. Had to remove the plug from the power socket and back in for it to listen to the remote again. This is starting to get annoying now. Might have to call the store.

Me and bad luck with TVs, it's unbelievable.

This happened to mine last night. I wonder if it's a firmware bug

Hmmm, but I haven't installed any new firmware lately? Odd that it would start doing this out of the blue. Keep me posted if this happens more often now, if you want.

I kinda don't want to contact the store just yet, but if this is now gonna happen every day, yeah, no. It seems to mostly happen after it's been off for several hours.

Anyone have the latest 27" G6 G60SD from Samsung? Not sure if I should pull the trigger or not or wait for the G8.

Only one review up and its on Youtube, with a chinese reviewer on it. And a few on Billibilli, which I can't understand.

And it happened again, it doesn't turn on.

Where in gods name is the power button on the TV itself? I've been told that it should be where the HDMI connections are. Well I've checked there with a flashlight and for the life of me I can't find the button. Wtf.

I wanted to at least try that before I call the store, because I am going to. I don't accept this.

Are you aiming the remote at the TV? I had to get used to this after years of using the LG series that seems to work via RF. The Sony remote seems more particular. :messenger_grinning:

Download the latest firmware from the website and put it on a USB drive to update. Maybe that will help?

I’ve never had my A95K not turn on.

Power button is on the side with the HDMI1 port.

This happened last night on my a80j, I thought the tv broke.

The remote kept being unresponsive though even after a battery swap, I had to use my google home app to control the tv. Works fine today tho. Weird.

I checked again, this button is so super small, holy shit. But I found it. TV isn't turning on now either. So I really have to remove the power cable, put it back in and then it will work. I've tried it all now. Calling the store tomorrow for sure! I don't have that extra warranty for nothing.

Alright. So yesterday I installed the latest firmware. I turned the TV off at night and back on just now, no problem. This is after it was four days in a row that it wouldn't power in via the remote. Just coincidence or was it indeed firmware? Hopefully the latter. 👍🏻

Hopefully no more issues but keep us posted.

Second day, it's working!

But a new issue popped up. While YouTube worked fine yesterday all day, it doesn't now. I start it up and I get a grey screen and nothing else. I did force quit, remove cache/data. Nope. Fucking unbelievable. Why can't shit just stay working? I used this app a great deal.

After cold boot it works again but man, why is Android TV OS so trash while I barely ever have issues with Android on my phone?

I r been using an Apple TV for many years. A few days ago, I decided to switch to the internal apps since we don’t really take advantage of the other features of the ATV and I wanted to free up an HDMI port. I’m still testing but it seems OK for now after switching the Google TV to “apps only” mode to get rid of the immense amount of recommendations and other garbage. Even still, it boots up to huge ads for stuff I would never ever even consider watching.

Yep, I'm using apps only mode too but that means missing out on recommendations too but it sure beats having freezes and what not. Overall I find the OS a huge mixed bag. Can be fast, can be sluggish. Even after a cold boot it just froze for like a minute or two yesterday when I tried to access settings.

Also when I open a app like Crunchyroll there is this weird sluggishness when I move around the content, like chugging along and it should be smooth. I think you guys have recommended using a Chromecast or AppleTV before, I might really just do that because I'm growing tired of the issues, too often. I won't go for Chromecast because I used to have one and I had issues with that too.

Several things are important for me though, the soundbar needs to work fine with AppleTV, Dolby Vision and everything else too. If all works fine it's probably gonna be worth it for me.

Yea, each tech has strengths and weaknesses.

You either get crushed blacks on the LG because of the automatic brightness limiter or you get a slight boom on dark scenes with the qled because it uses backlighting. You can overcome each problem to some degree but not totally, by fiddling with the settings.

Here is why I went with the Samsung qn90a a few years ago.I watch stuff with color more often that I watch stuff that’s super dark and while the oh does nearly black (like space) scenes better, it also crushes color and shadows in many other scenes. Here are some photos that might help.

WdZZm5o.jpeg

I hear the new OLED’s are better about this, but I’m not sure how much better.

I will probably wait for MicroLED to get cheaper before buying another tv.

Might be because of the way Sony directs the Android OS to use the TVs SoC resources.

Naaaaah man, shit is getting weirder and worse by the minute. It's like the OS is slowly dying.

So the issue of TV not powering on is random, four days in a row I have the issue, then two days it's fine. New issues appeared like when I try to access settings it just freezes and crashes back to main menu. If I try again, same story. I open up Internet browser or YouTube app, grey screen.

I power on Xbox, it should switch to the correct HDMI and show the Xbox dashboard, it shows a black screen. Only fix? Pulling the plug and back in. This is absurd. Time to call store.

I presume you have already tried a factory reset? Isn’t there some sort of clear cache setting as well? Android TV has always sucked. From my very first smart TV with the Sony 900E, I immediately bailed on Android and bought an Apple TV. I am only giving Google TV a try on my A95K because I basically only use Plex and I wanted one fewer device to deal with.

I actually haven't, didn't find the time for it today and I will absolutely do this tomorrow! The thing is, If it was just apps not running I could indeed buy AppleTV and be done with it, but the OS is now causing such crazy issues that when I power on my Xbox or Switch, and I select the correct HDMI source it just shows a black screen, plus not being able to access the TV settings without it freezing.

Then I fully power the TV off by pulling the plug and on again and it works. I bet tomorrow morning when I power it on, it will have those issues again. It happens after it's been in "sleep/standby" for several hours. If it's just two hours, all works fine, so weird. I was also thinking of faulty power cable, but it does not make sense it works fine after a full power off again. I'll try the factory reset, if that doesn't fix it, it's high time to call the shop.

Well, well...

Could it be that the culprit was a goddamned USB stick? It might sound weird but I had a USB stick in the TV with an episode of a show. After I had reset the TV I got a notification that a USB storage device was found. Decided to remove it and ever since then there haven't been any issues.

I remember how another USB stick a while ago caused some issues where it would take the OS to load up all the apps logos super slowly. Seems my TV or just this TV in general maybe doesn't play nice with them.

Knocks on wood, though.

hello, fellas i need upgrade from my sony x900h, i want oled this time

LG or sony ? Im looking a95L n Lg. C4
The a95L is the best OLED that currently exists if you got the money for it.

I also have a x900h and I really want an OLED but I'm not sure how much of an improvement it will even be right now... X900h still produces stunning images with deep blacks

I went from Sony x900e to LG C9 and it was life-changing.

Went from that LG C9 to Sony A95K and it's... not that different. Colour is noticeably improved. Scaling on low res material (Nintendo Switch) is insanely better than on my LG C1 (secondary TV).

The only thing holding me back from completely recommending the A95L is the price (for me it was almost double that of an equivalent LG), and the single HDMI 2.1 port. Single because the second one is used for eARC, of course.

So, if you have an HDMI 2.1 AVR, and money to burn, get the Sony. Otherwise, I feel the LG is better overall for gaming. Too bad you waited too long to get the A95K deals.
