does this game include space combat in any shape or form, or do you just click the galactic map and the Normandy appears there?

This game simply looks amazing but the framerate still concerns me.
Then again I love Shadow of the Colossus more than any other game and that game's framerate wasn't exactly solid either..

Isn't Bioware famous for their games' having horrible framerates all the way through development, then suddenly clearing up at the very end?

I'm not saying KOTOR and Jade Empire had lock-solid framerates, but that we can expect ME to get substantially better in that department before its [May! Please be May!] release.

Think so? I think it'd only break the game if they were absolute garbage. There's a chance that they're not great but not bad either, similar to most Bioware games where the animation is passable. I think the problem is relativity - the animations might not look good relative to the realism of the rest of the graphics.

I know this will be a good game, but I absolutely hate the armor. It's makes the human look weird and distorted.

Where is this animation arguement coming from? The video preview I saw had exceptional animation paticularily where conversation was concerned...lots of little subtleties...Frankly I'm more concerned about the framerate and even there its no big deal to me.

Finally bought a new PSP, but then pushed the demon onto someone else. Jesus.
It'd be a total waste to have visuals that nice animate like shit.

Ok, the question I have (which I can't remember if it's been answered yet) is whether the main Player Character is customizable (ie, the guy we're seeing in the shots is a placeholder) or that's who he is, period.

Completely, male, female, look and abilities.

main player is customizable and can be male or female, their just using the guy b/c that's what they decided to show

Supposedly, you can even customize your avatar's voice. Probably three or four pre-recorded selections for each gender, but that's still a very nice option to have.

Yeah I was just going to say that, but I wasn't sure I wasn't thinking about Baldur's Gate and that I was hoping it was in Mass Effect too. This game is pretty much perfect.

this game could be much better looking if they would ad some shadows.

just look at that lizard shot, the characters have no shadows

personally i think the screens look to clean and not even close to the graphics of gears of war

That's why I think that with Mass Effect, Bioware is slowly returning to their PC RPG roots. Their previous efforts on the XBOX were interesting (and, of course, many people loved KoTOR), but it was fairly obvious that they hadn't quite figured out how to successfully bridge the gap between PC and console. Too many options/features were sacrificed in order to maintain simplicity for console owners... and frankly, disappointed many Bioware fans in the process.

If Mass Effect is well received, then it's possible that the gap will be closed even further with their next 360 game. And that's good news for everyone involved.

Wow, that's a lot of dialog, since the game is fully voice-acted.

Personally I do not like the "clean" look of this, it looks fake and far from impressive. it seems like the characters are floating and the lizard looks plastic

Hmm. I agree, they do look like they're floating. Lizard looks good, though. Just seems slimy.

Oblivion had over 25-30 hours of spoken dialogue... and was compressed down into one DVD. Actually, the entire game didn't even fill a DVD, which is pretty impressive.

Can you not see the shadows there? The alien guy has two toes. He does not stand like a human, but that doesn't mean he looks like he's floating.

Anyway, the ground texture will likely be improved before the final.

It does look like they are standing on top of a badly compressed jpeg though.

Well, FF13 still has a helluva long time left in development, so its not fair to judge that yet.

But I think that right now, it does look better than MGS4.

Actually, I think it looks better than Gears. The lighting is amazing, as are the character models. The environments don't look quite as detailed, but they are also way bigger.
