How is it a bad excuse? I own Gears, and yes, it looks better than any game I've ever played, but I still think Mass Effect could look better in the end.robertsan21 said:thats a bad excuse.

Philthiest what am hyper scale-mapping?

lix2k3 said:This game is easily on par with Gears of War in screens. Animation wise, from the gamemplay videos that have been released, it will be on par with Gears in this area too. When you factor in the potential for more variation in the environments, textures and color schemes, (Gears was too grey?!?) it (the graphics) should surpass Gears. We'll just have to wait and see.

robertsan21 said:ANYTHING that is not better than gears graphicwise is not impressive IMO
once you get used to graphics that are super good you find it hard to start playing a game that has normal looking graphics
abacab driver said:If you are insinuating Mass Effects visuals are just "normal looking graphics" I'll just go ahead and stop paying attention to you. :lol
You just might be the first person I use the ignore feature on.robertsan21 said:ANYTHING that is not better than gears graphicwise is not impressive IMO
once the graphic bar is set you find it hard to start playing a game that has normal looking graphics that is under the bar.
I played gears for a week and then started playing zelda TP and it looked like 4 years old...
but I still loved zelda as its zelda but has it been any other game than zelda I think I wouldnt have been able to finish it.
robertsan21 said:lip sync and other stuff in this game seems to be top notch but I honestly cant say that I like the graphics that much. it looks to steril, where is the dirt and other effects that makes the game look sort of real?
almost everyone in this thread like the graphics and writes that it looks amazing but when guy who DOES NOT like the graphics and point out what he doesnt like he is a troll?
I find Mass Effect to be far more appealing even though I do love the look of GoW. The shots released, so far, are the closest thing to all of the classic 70's/80's acryllic/airbrushed sci-fi art I love to death.robertsan21 said:I like the graphics but what I am saying its not anything super impressive like gears of war.

Hil-IGN said:Described as a "next-gen BioWare game on steroids" by BioWare co-founder Ray Muzyka, Mass Effect is all but finished save some polishing and optimization. Though Microsoft remains mum on an official ship date, it seems likely that Mass Effect will arrive before Blue Dragon's August release. The build shown off was not a demo, but the full game in its current progress. And it looks like it's not far from final code.

We're actually pretty proud of the eyes in Mass Effect, so I think it was just a mistake or something. If there was anything wrong with them, it would have had to be specific to that build (minor problems do arise from time to time).
As far as the frame rate and such "minor quibbles", what the folks at GDC saw was a build of the game. It wasn't some special build made to show off progress or hype up a particular feature. It was what gets made daily around here. Sometimes the builds work great, sometimes they have a few small flaws, sometimes they explode like supernovas sending the team into hysterics trying to fix it. These things happen. Generally the game gets better and better with each passing build (barring Nova-type builds, but these get fixed darned fast).
The game is not optimized yet (as mentioned). It will still get multiple layers of polish and optimization before you fans get your hands on it. Personally, I'm really pleased that the only thing 1Up could find to complain about was stuff that I know will be fixed before we ship the game.

According to ign, the game is finished (!!!), and in the last stages of dev:

May release confirmed?

RPg with shooting, and that was a joke straight out of the halo wars thread
Gears was still pretty stuttery at X06 in October, ahead of the November release, and it turned out pretty well. If they are indeed focusing on optimization then I'm not too worried.Captain Glanton said:"Optimization" could mean a lot of things, esp. if what Luke said about the framerate is true. All the IGN piece says, really, is that it's coming before BioShock in August. That's really a three month window [May 1--July 31].
