FVII-Related Advertisements Seen in Trains
Advertisements for Compilation of Final Fantasy VII and Before Crisis can now be found in subway trains on the Yamanote and Chuo Lines. Also, terms such as "Sephiroth", "Midgar", "Jenova", "Lifestream" and so on can be seen splashed across the Compilation of FFVII advertisement. It mentions also "a secret, undisclosed history from seven years ago". Speculation has it that this indicates new, unannounced, FFVII-related projects on the horizon.

As it stands, we were told today by a senior Square Enix official that the company did indeed have a date pencilled in for a Japanese Summer 2004 PSP period-exclusive release for Advent Children.

But seeing as this would would not match with the PSP unit's tentative launch date - later this year in Japan - the official commented: "Although production on the title is as good as complete, release details cannot yet be confirmed".

He went on to add: "As far as I know, it'll be out in Japan this year and any lack of release detail is probably down to contract issues tied to the [PSP and DVD] launch".

All that could be confirmed is that the feature film will find its way to DVD and PSP.

So to clarify, exclusivity issues are unknown at the moment and we'd wager they will hinge on the timing of the machine's release.

It's likely that since the losses suffered from Square's Final Fantasy: Spirits Within cinema feature of 2001, Square-Enix will shy from any possibility of losing money - i.e., dragging the release out further than they need to.

If PSP is a long way off, then we'd guess that the title will hit DVD first, with a possible exclusive content deal for the UMD format at a later date, with perhaps some game-related bonuses of sorts.

FFVII: Before Crisis is the mobile phone RPG that was annouced a while ago. You play as the Turks. It takes place 7 years before FFVII. Nothing new.

I'm pretty sure the compilation of FFVII is just going to be a collectors edition set of FFVII International, FFVII Advent Children, Before Crisis, and probably some figure or art book. The newest Hobby Japan has a lot of new Advent Children merchandise. I think Square Enix is going to wait on any new game related content outside of a small, mobile game until they see how well Advent Children performs.

I don't recall exactly what the article said, but I think the game is limited to a select few phone types. I'll check it out when I can.

it doesn't say Compilation of FF7, 8 & 9, it just says Compilation of FFVII.

exclusive game content for the UMD release of FF7:AC is stupid, i don't want to buy movies i can only watch on a tiny screen just to play some extra exclusive mini-game or something... though many obsessed fans may.

if AC turns out good, i may pick it up for DVD.

No, NO to any sort of ressurection. It's perfect the way it is, Aerith's death is the only way the planet could have been saved. It was her strength that destroyed meteor. If you have a ressurection then the entire story is thrown out the window.

There were rumors that Square was remaking FF7-9 for PS2, I think they came from the FF8 PS2 Tech Demo. If I remember right, they were actually in development for a bit, but then Square decided against it since you can still play the PSOne originals on PS2. I could totally see a PSP remake...
