Does it mean they will announce it before april or after april? not quite clear to me

It will happen before April. What he is saying is code for we will reveal it within this fiscal year, which ends March 31. The reason Switch launched when it did in a hurried state, other than getting away from U as fast as possible, was so they could show the launch on that year's numbers to make up for meh holiday. This time, they want to get Switch's final holiday out of the way, so they can announce it...

Well at least we know there's a time limit.

The day it goes to sale I'll be calling sick to my workplace

"Morning boss, I'm calling sick today. I've been sick and tired of waiting for the switch 2 and now is the day you pay me to stay at home so I can order one. Thank you, have a nice day."

Nintendo have given themselves till the end of March.

Late March reveal for mid-September release.

5 months of launch game hype.

So some time in Jan-Mar 2025 then.
More likely March. I don't believe Nintendo wants customers (casual gamers who are less tuned in) who just bought a Switch over the holidays to feel burned by their purchase. (Especially if the Switch 2 is fully backwards compatible). March is enough separation time for a reveal.

Nintendo is one of the greatest marketing companies, they know when to talk and when not to. They are not announcing prior to Christmas.
Exactly and they know full well that everyone is hanging on their lips for this very special announcement. I wonder how stressed/confident they are about the reveal...

Fuck no, that'd be some self sabotage.
Nintendo has the luxury of time. The PS5 pro will be old news by this time. Neither Sony nor Microsoft will have new hardware out by next holiday season. Plus, they are still announcing remasters like Xenoblade, trying to keep current Switch owners busy for a few months. Nintendo has the next holiday to itself; it just has to stretch a little to make it there.
If the plan is to keep the new hardware going for at least 8 years, then they certainly should be in no rush to get it out.

Buy the time they announce their latest console, we're going to have a Nintendo toaster, clothing iron, and coffee machine

Investors wouldn't have it. They need growth not on going decline.

It never made sense to announce before the holidays in the first place... I'd expect an announcement in January or February for release in April.
Yeah, I agree with this. Nintendo doesn’t really need more than 3-4 months gap from original announcement to product release.

So if they announce it in January, an April or May release would work. And February announcement could work for May-June release.

Switch hardware sales are falling fast so I wouldn’t think Nintendo would want to wait till later in the year. Then again, it’s Nintendo so logic doesn’t always work.

Relative to what? Q2 23/24 they sold 2.93M, this quarter they sold 2.62M. Seems very steady.
