Final Fantasy is a brand name that pops out on the box in the West. Dragon Warrior isn't really a thing here.

I would assume that with what the branding is like these days, Squenix doesn't want to confuse people by bringing back the Dragon Warrior name. It already has it rough as it is.

But they have two big DQ games coming out here soon. This could have maybe created more awareness for the brand to help sales. And people wonder why the series doesn't catch on here.

Id expect a Gameboy before Snes and N64.

I think SNES and N64 would be much easier to pull off because they just need to be emulators in SNES/N64 boxes and classic controllers would also be usable. A Gameboy/Color mini would require its own screen, and a link cable or some type of way to connect to other systems.

This thing will likely fly off the shelves with the nostalgic 30-somethings crowd. If there's one company that knows how to cash in on your nostalgia, it's Nintendo.

These are two different demographics. This one is intended as an easy to use nostalgia product. The other is for current gamers generation who never knew NES in the first place.

I don't trust their emulation, nor do I think they will just shrink the original NES board. I'm expecting an identical experience to Wii U Virtual Console. I'm honestly surprised it has a HDMI port.

What I'm getting from this post is, they should have made the system sensor bar and Wiimote compatible for people who have them and included Duck Hunt.

The fact that all 30 games are already on the Wii virtual console and the fact that the controllers use the Wii accessory port points to this being a no effort emulation solution built on Wii hardware components.


I do agree that Nintendo/Square Enix should be releasing some of their Dragon Quest stuff on virtual console though. No reason why would couldn't get the GBC version of DQ3 for instance. Other than the mobile version, they haven't bothered to port that game in over 15 years.

Yeah, I think ClassicGameRoom did a video about it. From what I remember, the sound was off (like many clone systems, and that worries about this NuNES), and the controller connection was "wobbly."

edit: correction, it was an older one from the looks of it. No wireless and Mega Drive version. Region free, though!

The controller is not USB. It uses the same port that's beneath the Wiimote.

So they will work with this new console, and the Wii/Wii U.

Can't wait to get that controller. My childhood!...

I'll repeat what I tweeted earlier: disappointed some news outlets have skewed the details by leading with: "Nintendo to Launch New Console in November" or words similar. I know why they're doing it, but as someone who does news too, I'd at the very least put NES/Nintendo Classic in the heading.

I wouldn't even put it past some sites having 'NX' in the SEO or keywords section.

So this will likely be a series? SNES has more than enough titles and N64 can probably still get by without Rare's games with titles like Mario 64, OOT/MM, Smash, Pokemon Snap, Mario Party 2, Star Fox 64, Kirby 64 and Sin & Punishment, which I think have all been on the Virtual Console at some point so there shouldn't be a problem. Third party will probably be super-light for N64 though.

I don't really see them going past N64 though, maybe a Game Boy Mini?

I would definitely expect to see something like the GBA Micro minus the card slot with a bunch of classic games from the GB/GBC/GBA.

Rare developed it, but Nintendo owns the IP, so they're able to rerelease it unlike Banjo or Perfect Zero.

I own one of those and generally like it for what it is, but it's hard to deny that it includes a lot of trash in those 40 genesis games (and the 40 non-genesis games are almost all bad, aside from the one bomberman clone).
