ATV Wild Ride 3D releasing on March 7 for $8.

I believe this is the same content as the $30 DS game, but with better graphics and online. It's also by Renegade Kid (Dementium, Moon, Mutant Mudds, Bomb Monkey) so I'm sure the core gameplay is good. :)

Yeah, it's not RE Revelations by any means, but I do definitely notice a step up from the original version.

Was hoping they'd throw in some RK easter eggs though, like playable Doctor, Max, etc. There's still hope I suppose. :)

I don't understand why publishers are even necessary. They clearly aren't for most cases for the eShop.

I was under the impression this was for tax purposes. If I understand correctly, it's a pain in the ass to setup a company here in Japan. Especially for foreigners. Unlike the U.S. where anybody can go to their local courthouse and file for a company. Probably why companies like Blizzard don't really have a presence here and generally use other publishers for their games. I've been looking at starting a business here in Japan, and it just seems like such a convoluted process that it's not worth it.

It's not simply a matter of ownership, you need to have a physical presence in Japan, too. It's actually not that arbitrary, doing business in Japan is a complete PITA and isn't really feasible without people on the ground, so it's basically just an extension of the real-world realities of doing business there. This isn't really news, except in the sense that nothing's really changed from the WiiWare/DSiWare days in that regard.

Maybe NIGORO/Asterizm can make a business out of releasing western eShop games in Japan...

I'm actually surprised things like this aren't happening already.

When you are one of the few publishers releasing western games on the Japanese eShop, you could make some decent money since there's very little competition.

I think Arc System (with Circle Entertainment as a go-between) are the only ones who've released western WiiWare/DSiWare in Japan with any sort of regularity--they did Kokopolo and a few Circle/EnjoyUp games, among others. Kinda surprised no-one ever jumped on the WayForward stuff.

Asterizm released Cave Story DSiWare in Japan, but I think it's since been pulled. Hopefully Nicalis didn't turn 'em off the idea of publishing altogether.

Renegade Kid's stuff was actually among the best-looking 3D on DS, believe it or not. This new game is very obviously an up-port rather than a legitimate remake but whatever, it's $8.

BTW I really loved Ganbare Goemon: Sarawareta Ebisumaru! (on the 3DS VC), for an early Gameboy game it was way better than I anticipated.

I didn't care for Sarawareta Ebisumaru much when I first got it, but it grew on me after I played some of the older games. It's actually the most advanced of the old style games in the sense that you complete quests to pass the levels, as opposed to collecting passes, but Ganbare Goemon 2 probably has a bit more meat to it. Both are much better than the first.

Heh, I just realized we'll receive ATV Wild Ride 3D and Kerploosh! on the same day (March 7). Nintendo usually spaces big releases better, but I guess they have too many of them to release. :p Here's to Nano Assault EX coming the week afterwards.

Japanese gamers are super receptive to playing games from other countries, so this is a devastating loss!

Also hahahahaha Star Wars Pinball isn't out this week why am I so surprised.

With any hype for it long dead and better games available, there's no chance anyone's going to care about it now.

In a few months we'll be saying something similar about that Rayman game.

I got crashmo the other day. Is it just me, or are the puzzles much harder than pushmo?

I'll buy retro city rampage, even though you can't get club Nintendo coins for wii purchases on wii u for some stupid reason.

Sooo.... Splash or Crash is quite the charmer. And I'm thrilled to see that it controls with the pad, rather than gyro. Which is handy because the 3D effect is awesome in fact, I had to turn it down a tad, cos I just couldn't focus on my stone. It was too close to me! Anyway, check it out. It's fun, and a super showcase for 3D.

It just got Bit Trip Runner 2 two days ago, before any other platform. Plus, a lot of indie developers have barely gotten their dev kits so far, let alone actually publish a game. That being said, we'll see quite a few games coming out in the next few months, and there's been a Wii U eShop announcement pretty much every week for a while. Give it some time.

The Wii U eShop is actually browser-based. :p They just haven't made it possible to buy games for them outside of going to your Wii U yet. I believe they've announced plans to do that in the future, along with Miiverse.

I just feel the shop looks almost identical to when it did at launch, barely any new games at all. I just wanna have an excuse to use the gamepad because its great but Nintendo is making it kinda hard.

I think there've been like... 3 games released since November? Excluding Balloon Fight and F-Zero.

Kind of a wasteland right now. I want Mutant Mudds Deluxe. :(

Last few weeks got a new eShop digital game each week or so. So is getting better. Games just take a while to be made.

Though Zen Pinball 2 was suppose to be out by now, Zen Studios really has a horrible sense of time..

There have been a lot of announcements, granted, but I think there's reason to be skeptical when someone who has never released a game before announces a game. I know this seems counterproductive to the idea of encouraging independent development, but there also needs to be a healthy skepticism towards amateur development, as separate from independent but professional development.

First, many games that are announced are never released (XBLA). Second, there's also plenty of stuff that isn't merely not good, it's disasterous, even if it looks good in screenshots or teasers.

I think that support from real developers like WayForward, like Gaijin Games, like Renegade Kid, like Shin'en is encouraging. I also think that the potential is there for a true independent to have a break-out hit, and obviously Beril is doing very well for himself. So I'm not being negative. I actually think the Wii U eShop will be a decent little platform and get most of the multi-plat indies as well as some good exclusives. But I just caution people buying into some of these fly-by-night operations a little too much before they've proven themselves.

Oh boy, Easter Eggztravaganza! Only two more years until the Zelda Oracle games are released.

I'm still bitter over having to wait an entire year for Wario Land 2, and Wario Land 3 still isn't out yet. :/

Nintendo does require you to release one game before releasing a game on their platform, so it's not like they're completely inexperienced; quite a few of the studios releasing games have staff from previous big companies like Retro, EA, etc., so it's not they are breaking into the industry with an eShop game. Besides, we still have Nicalis, Two Tribes and the previous host of WiiWare supporters along with "major" indie support in Frozenbyte and Double Fine and a lot of small developers from Kickstarter and the like.

It'll be fun to root them all on.

They actually just opened up Development Applications for Wii U and Wii U eShop to all developers in the past week or so (previously, you had to know somebody). My little indy company just registered (though nothing to announce at this time).

GDC is apparently supposed to have some additional information with regards to development - likely some more news on Unity.
