NPD Sales Results for June 2015 [Up2: Batman, Splatoon]

Yeah it's weird how there has been a rise in new users. I've been a bit wary recently since some banned members from the past have admitted to me they have alternate accounts. Why can't people understand they have been banned for a reason!

But yeh, good to hear you find these threads useful. You can post more haha, even I dont understand everything, these discussions help me learn more as well.

Anyway, what are people expecting from PS4 sales this quarter and overall segment / Sony performance? Only a few hours till the release noW.

Going by Japanese and US sales pretty similar to last year (?). Of course demand could have slowed in other parts of the world. Then there is of course that last year if I remember right PS4 had still some major shortages in Europe during Q4 so they might have shipped some extra units Q1 to fix supply levels. This would mean that despite having similar sales to last year numbers could see still a drop. Gonna go with 2.3 million (2.7 million last year).

It adds up so well I think we have to conclude that Sega's reports are the source for the CESA white paper. My point was, those reports were a combination of consolidated and non-consolidated shipments. There's no accounting for possible excess production shipments.

The 9.13m number is the best we have, and no less reliable than any of the other sales figures that get used. But it purports to be more precise than many others, which I think there's good reason to question.

Skyrim sold more than any Star Wars game. Maybe Battlefront does better for the season with the movie coming out, but I think Fallout 4 is going to continue to sell for a good while after release.

heh I was reading the other day (IGN comments) and someone quoted Chartz saying Halo 5 has the most pre-orders of any game this year at 300k.

Numbers out of their ass or plausible educated guesses? The pre-order part of the industry is mystery to me in terms of numbers.

Sounds about right. Think it could be flat too if Sony felt like doing some channel stuffing.

Didn't someone fairly major like Entertainment Weekly once quote Chartz in an article? It's not just about people trying to win forum debates. NPD being so secretive meaning that if you were to try to use Google to figure out a games sales after the first month or two, I wouldn't be surprised if the Chartz results are one of the first results.

Fiscal year 2015 forecast of PS4 shipments have been increased from 16 million to 16.5 million, as well.

(FY2014 was 14.8 million, by comparison)

So Sony upped their forecast of PS4 sales by 500K.

@CosmicQueso, do you still think 30M for PS4 at the end of the year is unlikely?

Disappointed I missed out on all the fun this month. Thread seems to have died down for the most part now.

One question I had though: did we ever sort out the Arkham Knight sales figures? If I recall one trusted source stated it was ">1.1million" but the NPD release stated it sold better than Arkham City which sold 1.5 million. What was the cause for the discrepancy here? Which number is accurate?

NPD revised the Arkham City Month 1 sales.
