His acting is okay enough:

But he seems too kind-eyed and young for the role. One of the things I liked about movie Snape was how he had a certain weathered scowl that gave off the appearance and feeling of someone untrustworthy, even though he turned out to be the exact opposite.

Harry Potter will probably face a Star Wars problem where WB is too scared to branch out to anything else other than the Dumbledore/Harry time period, even though a recent video game did it very easily.

nothing against the guy but no. his and the dumbledore casting is already putting me off and i love HP. john lithgow is an amazing actor but he's 79 👀

i've never seen essiedu in anything and i'm sure he's a good actor but i just don't see him as snape. i'd love to be proved wrong though.

seems like they are revealing major side characters now and we'll get the Harry/Ron/Hermione castings. If they fuck that up then I won't even bother with the show. Everything else they can fuck around with to some degree but if they fuck up HRH then the show is DOA.

I’m fine with it if he is a good actor. I do t know anything about him though.

I will say this though, he looks like a really nice person. Not the terribly jaded and sad person snape is. Guess we will see

It's been interesting even seeing Reddit against this casting choice. The entertainment industry really isn't reading the room huh?

Snape is an ghostly pale and wirey looking incel, who joins a group of Wizard Nazis. So you cast a young handsome looking black dude to play him. Wow! We're really breaking new ground aren't we?

The doors are open now. Don't even know what the purpose of looking for someone that looks like Dumbledore if you gonna give a shit about the rest.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
That means he’s currently three years older than Snape in the first book. A lot of the characters from Harry’s parents generation are much younger than they feel.

Huh, interesting. Never read the books, my only knowledge of the franchise is from the movies and Rickman looks like a salty mid to late 40's.

What? You just said "Shit doesn't mean anything, as long as the actors are good" and now I should finance something? :messenger_dizzy:
Exactly, you said it was time for a white Blade and Miles Morales, so go finance it and make it happen. I'll watch it with an open mind as long as the actors are good.

Or are you expecting someone else to finance your vision?

The Hannibal TV series race and gender swapped a ton of characters, and it was still a masterpiece. Laurence Fishburne as Jack Crawford and Lara Chorostecki as Freddie Lounds.

Shit doesn't mean anything, as long as the actors are good.
No offense but nobody gives a fuck about jack crowford compared to freakin snape.

Snape being pale\grey and kinda ugly\displeasant to look at is part of the character, homeboy here is darker than 99% dark chocolate and pretty handsome.

Good luck making believable that he was trolled by james for his frail, moopy look with this version of him, dude look like an abercrombie model.

No offense, but nobody cares about what race Snape is other than unhinged adults obsessed with a series of children's books.
Then better get out of this topic because 99% of people in here care about this shit, better not catch our same illness.

Btw i added stuff to my post to explain better my point of view, but from your response i can tell that i'm probably just wasting my time.

Ehhhh, I suspect a couple million kids who have only ever watched the films and read the books will be a bit baffled about who that guy that kinda acts like Snape is. Though I expect a rainbow casting for this so they are going to be leaning HARD on making sure every actor has a 5 minute "this is who I am even though I look nothing like the film/book interpretation" scene. When petite and thin Elliot Page kicks down the Dursley's door and announces that he is, in fact, Ruebeus Hagrid, there will need to be a quick montage of him doing everything "Hagrid-like" to sell it.

Page as hagrid is a stroke of genius.

To the points you added, shows and movies employ tools, such as costumes, makeup, practical effects, and CGI, to make the actors and sets look the way they want on film.

Did they film Alan Rickman looking like this as Snape?

No? Then why do you think they're going to film the dude they got now without any sort of effects or makeup to make him look like Snape?

Rickman was white and kinda pale and kinda old and average looking at best, they didn't had to use heavy make up on him other than a wig, why the fuck picking an handsome and young actor just to make him ugly and older with makeup instead of picking someone more naturally similar to book snape?

Nah dude, they know what they are doing, good luck to them if they hope that people are gonna hate watch something for 7 seasons.

You are not gonna convince me that out of the all the actors who tried the part, there was not a white, older, average looking dude that was better for the part than this dude.
