I’ve bought 891 games on the Microsoft PC store and 2 on Steam. Never had any issues.

This is mostly an article venting frustration that all Paleworld's love is coming from people playing Steam and not being able to claim it as an Xbox exclusive.

Having said that I agree with much of the Windows Store/PC Gamepass complaints and its a big reason why PC Gamepass will never be a money machine. People would rather pay to play on Steam
We have another thread that it passed fortnite in players (at least for a day) on Xbox, so your first point doesn't make sense. No need to make a PC thread about xbox vs PS5.
It's just an article complaining about MS's store/gamepass with the high sales of Palworld on steam just used as an in for how people will pay money not to use the MS store because of these issues. The store is 'ok' but as Epic have found - even when giving games away for free free, users are often willing to pay to be able to play on a better service.

Great ad attempt but there's no advantage.

"for me"
Then how come GamePass isn't taking off on PC?

People are locked into Steam? It has been the dominant delivery system on PC for decades..

I guess I consider myself a "convert" since I've almost completely stopped buying games on Steam and take advantage of the gamepass catalogue instead... it works for me, but it obviously doesn't work for everyone.

They beauty of it all is that you can do both.... so that's my question, why not take full advantage of what's on offer?

GP is not the cheapest way for playing the game. Paying $120/year to “rent” the game is a terrible idea. Most people will pick $26 to own the game on Steam.

The Xbox version being behind is just the certification process of consoles being more stringent.
C'mon. This is so disingenuous. You take a true statement that it is the cheapest way to play it and say that this fails in some absurd limit of playing it for a year. I am sure the majority of people playing this game will not be playing it for 1 year. The other thing here that is absurd is the notion that in your year, these weirdos would not play any other games on PC gamepass like Stalker, Indy, or Avowed.

It's demographic, pc players have their demographic as other platforms, there is no math behind these results.

Honestly, when I heard the first time of an error in the Windows store where storage used to download a game was locked and couldn't be deleted, I vowed to never use the Windows store in case that ever happened to me.
There are ways to delete it. Like booting a live cd Linux and deleting through there. Lol.

There's an OP and a thread full of reasons why people don't but you're still here behaving like some used car salesman.

Why?

What do you mean? I’m just trying to get the most amount of entertainment for my $$ and why would I exclude any launcher or service on PC that allows me to do that?

Gamepass has enough games for me to not feel like I need to spend extra money on Steam, but I’m no limiting my self by saying I would never buy a game on Steam.. if there is a must have and it’s not on GP, I would buy it no matter what.

Palworld is certainly not that game lol

No major issues with pc gamepass here. Only issue I've had with is damn minecraft. Apparently there's a bunch of different versions and they don't play nice with each other via mulitplayer. Trying to figure which version a bunch on kids have to get them all on the same server playing was a personal nightmare.

I won't use the Windows Store for my games over Steam and GOG, it's too restrictive for the games i like to play and i want the ability to use mods and tools and be able to access ini files, but for PC gamers that play a lot of games in a year, especially new ones, and don't care about mods etc or Steams better functions, then using GP would save them some money, but buying a game on the Windows Store over Steam and GOG doesn't make any sense to me, unless they just want an Xbox experience on a PC, which i don't.

I started it on PC Gamepass and would love to jump to Steam but not starting over
I did not try it but you can use this tool to extract the saves and put it in the Steam version if you don't want to wait till version parity and crossplay : https://github.com/Z1ni/XGP-save-extractor

Holy shit that’s convoluted. Who the hell found that solution?
Linux does not care about file permission on NTFS so it's the easy way.
But that issue was not happening to everyone nor with every games, and it only happened a long time ago, it's fixed since years as the games now use a better system to be installed, with accessible files without special permissions.

Imagine using Windows Store on PC instead of Steam.

Years ago, I actually tried buying Gears of War 4 on Windows Store just to try it out. It took me 3 days just to make the Windows Store actually finish downloading and install it. After that, I swore never to use Windows Store ever again for games. Glad to see good old MS hasn't done much to improve it since.

I'm rarely touch gamepass as I would rather stick to Steam due to what is stated in the OP, but this is a stupid take. You aren't paying 120 to rent 'the' game. You're paying 120 dollars a year that gives you access to a library of games to include Microsoft's first party releases and a host of other third party titles.

If an individual's only goal is to play Palworld for the entire year, than yes, your point would stick.

In my opinion, as much as they have struggled trying to gain ground against Playstation......they will struggle even more trying to gain ground against Steam.
yeah....well not as much as you would struggle to beat me on tekken 8.

Sorry. I dunno where that came from....... Im feeling oddly competitive. what?

Need the Waterboy meme in here "Gamepass is the Devil!!!"

Seriously though, tons of people on this board do not understand the appeal of gamepass because they're not a poor grade school or high school kid. To them, it's the greatest thing ever. My son and his friends all have gamepass and are all playing palworld together. Without it, they could never play it as they couldn't all afford it. It's the same reason that games like Fortnite are so popular with them, they can all get it and play it.

I have both gamepass and steam for the pc and xbox. Complaining about not owning the games is like complaining about not owning the shows on Netflix, lol. Like who cares? I either play games and finish them, or I drop them and rarely pick them back up. Not owning the games has never come up in my 3 years on it. I think there's only like 1 game that I bought later after it disappeared from gamepass.

The windows store could be a lot better, I agree with that. But acting like Steam is amazing is kind of a stretch, I have more problems with Steam than I do with the Windows store or Xbox. Windows at least remembers me and logs me in, Steam is just as bad as the Riot client at times, sometimes remembering me for months and then suddenly forgetting who I am every other day. Cloud saves are crap on Steam for a lot of games, nowhere near as good as the xbox console (cloud saves also suck on the windows store).

At the end of the day, it's about playing games, and gamepass allows me to play way more games for cheaper than I normally would, so it's a huge savings. I'm not sure why anyone would hate it, it's like hating Netflix because you like to own movies. They both have a place and frankly I use gamepass on pc/xbox, steam, and disc based games on my ps5 (so I can sell them back).

Don’t you have like an old relative, usually boomer gen or older, who simply hoard everything? Or someone younger but they have that amazing DVD collection that’s just collecting dust in the corner for absolutely no reason? There are also the doomsday scenario peeps that will ask you what happens if you don’t have internet, bypassing the potential lack of electricity in such a scenario…

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.

Pfft, us real doomsday preppers have their own solar arrays, battery backups, and fancy transformer switches to totally cut off shore power.

As I said in another thread: HALO MCC was better on Steam than on the Xbox Horror Store
Their flagship was better on the competitor's platform, ffs.

At the end of the day, Game Pass on PC acts like a paid demo service.
If you really like a game, you'll get it the Complete/GOTY/Gold/Director's Cut edition on Steam later

Seriously, when they were releasing MCC on PC GP I was installing an update and every time they released a new game in the collection, it broke my installs. You would think PC gaming was a solved problem, but here Microsoft is making it difficult again. Plenty of games with crashes/installation issues and even when you get them to run, you're greeted by bugs and performance issues. Steam has made it basically seamless, and the entire PC gaming industry owes Valve for making that market what it is today.

The questions you're asking are of other people, very similar to the type of shit you get when you receive a cold call and tell them you're not interested:

No reason to not take advantage of gamepass on PC ...

I’m a PC gamer and I take full advantage of gamepass. Why wouldn’t you?

So I'll ask again, why are you attempting to objection handle people regarding this like some unsolicited used car sales man?

That’s just the way I rationalize using gamepass on PC so I’m looking for a counter argument. Of course ultimately it’s personal preference, but if you can afford it, I don’t see any downside to it at all, it’s just another solid catalogue to pick from..

Why are you not using it?

Sure steam is better overall, but the app is fine. A whole lot of whining about regular pc type things that do happen on other launchers. You want to talk about garbage look no further than epic and anti cheat.

What. The only times I have to do so on Steam is when I change PCs. Beyond that I almost never have to log in Steam in 10 years. How often do that happen to you? Do you change your account often in Steam? Use 2 factor authentification?

Exactly.

I already have a subscription on Gamepass Ultimate. There is no scenario for me where Palworld on Steam would be the cheapest way for me to play the game at this point. It literally feels like I get it for free on Gamepass.

Once the subscription expires it’ll be a different story. Could still end up cheaper to keep playing through Gamepass but it depends on how many other games I plan to play. Having a sub stay active while not really using it is obviously not cheap.

Hopefully they add save syncing between Steam and Gamepass so longtime players can move over to Steam later without consequences. Would be useful to be able to move between Xbox, PC and Steam Deck too to cover all gaming scenarios.

I've had strange issues with GP regarding storage.

I'll uninstall something only to find it's still taking up space, or I'll find it difficult to actually uninstall something to begin with.

Sometimes, it'll tell me it can't download something only for me to find out it has.

The Master Chief Collection was especially bad for this, with it telling me multiple times it wouldn't install (I've no idea why) only for me to find out it had actually tried to but had suddenly stopped short of the 100+ GB install and had instead used up 78gb of storage.

Because, it had seemingly froze on the GP page I couldn't uninstall it there as nothing would work (couldn't pause, cancel) so I had to go into my storage and delete it that way.

I know, it makes no sense.

One big issue with gamepass is slow updates. I was playing lies of P on launch week and the patch got delayed by 4 days. It hit Steam on day 1 and after 1 nore day PSN got the patch as well but no patch for gamepass or xbox version.

Gamepass but honestly considering jumping the gun and getting it on steam because it's really fun and I'd like to play with my friends.

I’m only joking guys. The Microsoft Store sucks dick lol
I dipped my toe back into PC gaming briefly with a 7900XT a while ago. Tried to install Forza Horizon 5 via MS store and had to download it 3 times. Seriously. I got it installed and working in the end. Lets just say the experience didnt exactly remind me of all the good times I've had with PC's

Depends if you already have a subscription running or not. You’re not going to start calculating the real cost for playing one extra game through an already active sub. It’ll always be the cheapest entry point.
I’m playing this game on GP but I’m just addressing the absurd notion that someone would subscribe to GP rather than “buy” the game to try out Palworld. The sale numbers on steam speak for themselves.

Noone is paying 120 a year for gamepass for one game and to try and pass it off as that is extremely disingenuous and you know it.

This is a Microsoft thing. Getting a patch approved is a time consuming process, whereas on Steam it’s boom, done.

Like The Ascent having DLSS on Steam at release, but not the Windows Store.

Regardless of how poor Windows Store and PC Game Pass can functionally be, I’ll still hit ‘em up for a month or three when they offer it to me for $1.
