After 3+ gens of console exclusivity Im joining once again the PCMR, I have a lot of reasons for it but its not important.

Im going to build a new system and unfortunately in my country everything is very expensive so Im aiming for a middle tier hardware.

Im probably going to go with something in the lines of a ryzen 7600 or 7700 with a 5070TI

Since im out of the loop for so long I wanted to know what this kind of hardware will get me perfomance wise and how long will I probably be able to ride it until I have to upgrade again...

Take note that I value perfomance (60fps) above everything else, I dont care for RT and played ALL of my games on console perfomance modes since the ps4 and NEVER felt the need to change back to fidelity because of pretty graphics.

So Im buying this pc for stable 60 fps gaming on my lg oled.. plain and simple.. Im definitely not some graphic whore.

I thank in advance for any opinions ... the hardware is not set on stone so any advice about it is also welcomed.

You probably already know that the 5070 Ti will be $750 US and id stuff is even more expensive in your country, you might be looking at $1K+.

As for performance with that setup. 60fps+ will be easy so long as you don’t go crazy with ray tracing or max settings + native 4K. You should be able to get over 60fps in pretty much every game at max settings (or close) with DLSS Q at 4K.

  • What's your budget?
  • What LG Oled do you have? ( 60hz limit ? )

First obvious advice would be to wait some weeks until the new cards are shown and reviewed, specially the 5070ti and the 9070XT.

Guess you are planning to play in 4K, and 60 FPS or your TV allows 120HZ too?

If you don't care about RT i guess the AMD one will be better performance/price, but of course the 5070ti will be more expensive and better overall (there's a good amount of games that already force RT, even tho it's not as demanding as the optional RT in others)

[AM5, Ryzen 7000 series] I think this is a great choice. You'll probably have great upgrade paths for a long time. (Pray the Trump tarriffs don't fuck the CPU market long term.)

[RTX 5070 (Ti?)] Too early to tell because we don't have benchmarks yet. Gut feeling is that this is a [1440p-144fps] & [4k-60fps] card because its only get 12GB VRAM.

As for the VRAM debate, 12 is good, but I think 16GB is more future proof. My 7900 XTX's 24 GB VRAM has only been useful for one use case: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim modding.

I'm with you.

I'd like to build a new gaming PC in the $2K price range myself. I don't need the top end. It's been a minute since I had a dedicated gaming rig.

If you don't care about RT, honestly the upcoming Radeon 9070 GPUs might be a great fit for you.

We gotta know what budget you're working with to make proper recommendations though.
Yeah, best bet is to wait for reviews on the new GPUs and make sure whatever CPU you get doesn’t bottleneck them.

9070XT or 5070Ti should be sweet spot for the price. Throw in 9700 Ryzen and you are golden.

I would future proof the CPU to 9800x3D. Achieve this by pulling a little funding from the GPU. 4080 and 4080 Super are about to flood the secondary market when these 5xxx series drops. It's going to be very hard to beat that perf per dollar. FB marketplace is the way to go. You can discriminate against sellers based on neighborhood since you know the area, and you can catch a lot of screaming good deals on GPUs sold by guys who just want them gone. Skip eBay. It's too economized and if anyone actually posts one for a good price some merchant probably has a bot buying it.

Either way you go, maximize the CPU. It'll be worth every penny in 5 years when you're looking for extra frames. This way you can do an easy peasy GPU only upgrade. 3 minute job for a mid gen "Pro" refresh. Might not be as viable on a 9700!

I was thinking the other way... get the GPU now and in some years upgrade the CPU if needed.. CPUs here are usually a lot more cheaper than the GPUs... for some reason the price differential from the US is bigger on the GPU side.

Except that it is, and I don't feel like approving your application until you provide your reasoning.

After all, you made a new thread to announce to GAF that you're coming back to the fold.

My ps5 basically became a multiplat machine ... sony first party has been mediocre this gen and nothing they are doing tell me this is about to change, I dont like the way things are going so if multiplat is the future from now on.. theres no reason to not go back to PC and enjoy better perfomance/graphics, If I want to play something from them I'll wait and play it eventually.

Vast majority of multiplat games are 60fps, I don’t really understand your dilemma if that’s mostly what you care about

You’ll need a much more powerful rig than your price target

Get a ps5 pro and save yourself for next gen

2x Voodoo 2’s and a copy of Tribes 2 is all you need.
You still need the VGA card and a Soundblaster. Maybe get a 4X CDrom drive too.

I miss those days because every new component was a pretty major upgrade. Now a fucking 2k GPU is just faster with a little more RAM than the 1.6k GPU you bought 2 years ago.

If you really value performance over anything else, trust me you won't want to hear again about 60 FPS as soon as you try 120, but considering you don't care about RT, it shouldn't be hard to achieve, i'd aim for 70-80 FPS and use frame gen on the most demanding games, AMD announced new antilag 2 some days ago so i expect them to have worked on FG for their new generation too.

It's impossible to say which card will be the best option right now until reviews, i guess the 5070ti will be slightly better, but at a considerably higher cost, so up to you there.

For CPU, aiming for these FPS you should be fine with a 7600, specially if its for 70-80 + FG.
