For those not in the know, Petroglyph is Westwood Studios, aka the folks behind the C&C series.

I did, it kind of sucked, space battles were cool. the expansion pack actually turned it into a decent game.

I quite enjoyed Universe At War, I bet no one played that :P huge walkers ftw.

Universe at War was a lot of fun. Frank Klepacki was on fire for the soundtrack too, amazing stuff there.

I wonder how many developers from Tiberian Dawn, RA, and Sun are still there? I think I kept track of that years back when I was a bit more fanatical.

I just hope for base-building and no unit cap. Also, let's lose the small, symmetrical maps.

When I saw 'Victory' the first thing I thought was the studio working on the new C&C.

I agree, it wasn't the greatest. But sending tie fighters to attack x wings or the enemies space station and then shifting into cinematic mode was pretty awesome

For those also not in the know, the last few Petroglyph games have been...

Well, let's just say I'm not getting excited until I see it in action.

Their best output in the last five years or so has been a board game with respect to quality. I'm really not sure who is paying for this new RTS game, Petroglyph sure knows how to pitch a title apparently.

I loved the demo and really wanted to play the full game, but it would always crash for me after one of the opening missions, no matter what. I tried playing it unpatched, and with every patch released up to that point, but nothing helped. Come to think of it, I bought a new motherboard since then, maybe I should try my luck again.

Has anyone played the 360 version? I might give that a try if everything else fails. I think I remember it being praised for working decently with a controller.

I thought a decent portion of Westwood's core stayed at EA and didn't go on with Petroglyph?

People who stayed at EA were primarily Westwood Pacific staff. It was a separate studio based in California (Westwood's headquarters were in Nevada).

Seems like since Universe at War they have mostly done free to play online stuff, and no RTS games. Doesn't seem too much of a reason to be down on this. Also its nice to see some more RTS games regardless.

I was just thinking the other day how there are basically no RTS games released these days aside from the really big players - Relic, Creative Assembly & Blizzard. Even the kickstarter wave only produced Planetary Annihilation that I'm aware of. I don't even know of a recent RTS with any kind of hype that didn't come from one of those 3 studios.

Aaand it's a Kickstarter with a $700,000 goal.

A World War II, team-based, action-strategy game where you collect companies of units and battle in quick online matches

“If World of Tanks, StarCraft and League of Legends had a baby, it would be Victory.” – Oksana Kubushyna, Victory Project Lead
•World War II setting
•Online team vs. team battle arena
•Choose units from your collection to bring into each match
•Command squads of units using RTS-like controls and viewpoint
•Win by capturing and holding key map locations or by destroying all enemy units
•If all your units are destroyed, you are out of the match; continue to observe or leave and join a new one
•Each match typically lasts 15-20 minutes
•Your units become more powerful after each match, and you earn in-game currency
•Spend your in-game currency to buy booster Commander Packs containing random, collectible units and more
•For PC / Windows
• Victory is not an RTS - there is no base-building or resource management

Count me out then.

I'm tempted to suggest "MOBAs/F2P/etc" is ruining traditional gaming, but really in this case its just a bad developer. They've already tried and failed multiple times to get in on the Lords Management cash, how about instead of constantly chasing after the mega hit they just fill a much needed niche?

Looks cool to be honest. It is a shame it's not a C&C-style game (where have they been nowadays goddamnit?) but it looks interesting.

Hope they get it funded.

Awwwww, hoped it would be somehting in the style of Company of Heroes in presentation with the scale of End of War or Supreme Commander as a boxed product. But no base Building or Resoruce Management and F2P .. no thanks.

Weren't they doing End of Nations? What is going on with that game these days. Seems to be odd for them to be trying to make a second F2P RTS while they are already working on one, I doubt they are that big a studio.

The project was taken away from them and moved to in-house development at Trion Worlds
last December and Petroglyph had to lay off 30 people during that period. Since then the Beta for End of Nations is indefinitely postponed.

I don't know what to think. It's like a multiplayer only World in Conflict...I guess. I don't like having a limited number of units.

I really just want a base-building, unit cap-less RTS with a strong campaign.

WiC's format works better for drop-in/drop-out multi, but I'm not sure what they're planning for Victory.

It looks like they've put more money into the Kickstarter and award tiers than they have into the actual game. There should be a $5 "Just give me the soundtrack" tier.

It's a $25 game; that's one of the reward tiers. And there's 32 left at that tier where you can playtest early prototypes of the game.

How it was originally worded made it sound free 2 play. They've changed the writing on the tiers and added not free to play in the main bit. Probably should have run their kickstarter by a few more people before going public with it.

please please PLEASE let this be a real RTS, full on with base-building, harvesters and unit spaming. This needs to be their true spiritual successor to C&C. If it is, I don't care if it's a kickstarter; I'm going to fund the SHIT out of this game.

edit: fuck, it was too good to be true. Pass.

These guys screwed up. The mega successful nostalgia Kickstarter campaigns all funded throwback games. Doublefine wants to make a 90s era adventure, the Black Isle vets are making Wasteland and Torment follow ups, and people ate that up. The 30 year olds with disposable income were the 15 year olds enjoying those games.

Now the same team that brought us Command and Conquer, the proto-RTS with over the top science fiction units and storytelling, is making... a WW2 themed MOBA/RTS hybrid? Who was going to kickstart that? The answer, which should have been obvious, is no one.

If this game was a traditional base building RTS with laser tanks, commandos, engineers, Hell March and FMV cut scenes as a stretch goal it would be rocketing towards $1,000,000 in donations. Oh well.

Thse guys also made mytheon, one of the worst, and most broken, pieces of shits i ever played. Wouldn't even trust them with my lunch money. Thankfully this a stupid idea and wont be funded eitherway.

Kickstarter canceled.

We are announcing the end of the Kickstarter campaign for Victory.

We want to gratefully thank all of our backers for your support of the game, and to thank everyone who sent us feedback about it.

We’ve listened carefully to what the Kickstarter community has said, and it has given us many ideas of games we could do in the future. Additionally, multiple game publishers have expressed interest in Victory, based on your support, and we hope to still bring Victory to you with their help.

Their game play video made it look like a cheap and tacky knock off of CoH. It's no wonder it wasn't getting donations. I wonder who will pick it up though.

Zynga? This could be just saving face since the kickstarter was a massive flop.
