Phil Spencer removed Head of Xbox from X profile, now Head of MS Gaming

Represent.

Represent(ative) of bad opinions
I don't know about gaming as a whole, but they killed Xbox.

So, if you were heavily invested in the Xbox ecosystem, they are terrible. If you were already a PlayStation or Nintendo gamer, you just got a lot of franchises previously withheld from your system of choice.
It's bad because by killing Xbox, you kill any competition for PlayStation. They now have free reign to perform like shit and have zero consequence. We need more competition not less.

They should have made everything they bought exclusive. See how Sony responds to that, they would have to fire on all cylinders. THEN gamers would win.

No. PC is the creeping and unstoppable existential threat to Sony's dominion now. One only needs to look how they have pivoted towards the platform to see how acutely aware of this Sony are.

I'm sure Sony is scared to death of PC, something they've supported since the PS1...

What possible gain does MS has with a PC that runs Steam?
Valve will get 30% of the cut, not MS.
They want to promote their own store, not Valves.
From what I can see, Xbox is no longer a console, it’s a platform. I see this all of the time with my middle school aged students…to them it’s a platform and not a device. They tell me about a strategy game they play on Roblox. When I ask them what they are playing it on, they say Roblox. The device means nothing to them.
I could easily see Xbox just wrapping itself into Windows and the device doesn’t matter. I know people are constantly complaining about the 30% they are losing to the walled garden owners (Google, Nintendo, Sony) but that’s still 70% that they get to play with. I would imagine that they are getting more profit from the 70% and more sales than the 100% and less sales.

Yes, you've confirmed what a lot of us already know. Kids are dumb and don't know how things work. I grew up with kids that thought a Genesis cart could work in a SNES.

lol jumping ship after he totally sank the previous one.
incredibly this moron still has a job, probably has some juicy videos of nadella or something

Even though it has meant the Xbox brand is dying I feel his moves were great for me as mainly a PC gamer

Now owning a PC and PS is the best combo and throw in a Switch if you like those games
Exactly. As a gamer I have zero complaints.

I could care less about corporate fanboy fuckery.

If people want to cry crocodile tears over the death of the Xbox brand so be it.

They did that with some games and not enough people were buying Xbox consoles so they adapted. Sucks for the market we need console competition to keep both Sony and Xbox in check. Nintendo love them also but that's a different thing altogether.

Every decision phil spencer has made has led to the downfall of xbox as a brand and has now forced them to go third party. I'll keep repeating myself in saying he's one of the absolute worst gaming CEO's of all time and his gamepass initiative has single handedly sunk the entire xbox brand into complete irrelevance sadly. This guy is one of the biggest clowns in the entire industry.

Buut butttt Don Mattrick ruined Xbox /s

That's the go to for phil defenders to this day still. They'll blame mattrick when in reality phil has been in the role long enough and made enough decisions that have ultimately damaged the brand more than mattrick did honestly. At least with don in charge they were selling games, with phil they're not even doing that because of gamepass.

It isn't clear what Xbox is at the moment.
Worst thing imo is, that the same people have changed the narrative a couple of times the last years and i haven't seen a single interview asking the hard questions.

I really, really don't get Phil still being in such a prominent position. Look at Nintendo and Sony - they've actually been successful and even then they've rotated people to keep things fresh and to make sure they are operating at their best. Then you have Microsoft failing miserably at every hurdle yet they promote Phil even further destroying Xbox as a platform and massively devaluing the whole brand. Has this guy got company secrets or something? I'd say give him the boot and get some fresh blood in, but it's about 5 years too late now. He's already ran Xbox into the ground.

Microsoft’s issues is he could run Xbox into the ground ten times over and it would at most be an incredibly tiny blip that would be forgotten about quickly. If he was head of a bigger division of MS he would’ve been canned years ago.

I see people blaming Phil for the failure of XBOX. But there was an article recently about how Satya Nadella is forcing decisions on their gaming division. If a suit who doesn't know anything about games gets involved, what happened to XBOX will happens. Don't just blame Phil

He's had the new title since sometime 2023, Sarah Bond is the Xbox president now.

Difference is now it's super public in a way fanboys can't hide from anymore. Anytime they go to Phil's X account, right there in the bio, they'll be forever reminded that "Xbox" has been removed in favor of Microsoft.

As if they didn't get the other hints by now. This one'll hit them no matter how they dodge.

Phil's been in charge for over 10 years. Nadella only got involved recently because of how much money was invested in acquisitions yet Xbox was still failing miserably.

Phil had all the time in the world, all the freedom in the world and all the money for a while there, to get things right. He is 100% to blame for where they are at now, especially with how poorly the Series consoles have performed even compared to the One.

The Market that you love so much, can only work by killing the weaker competitor, so that new competition can replace them. if you think the Market is about keeping the weaker side around on life support forever, you don't actually believe in the Market.

Just to put this in context also; if you consider the majority of Xbox console sales this gen have to have been predominantly S-models (due to bundling and price point) Series X is probably closer to OG Xbox sales than any other console.

Which is kinda nuts if you think about it.

I thought this said Phil Spencer removed from Head of Xbox and I was like 'whoa!' then I saw it was just he changed his Twitter profile ... and the news became infinitely less exciting.

The only thing worse were the clowns cheering him on.
