Playstation All Stars Battle Royale Major Balance Patch 1.12 Released

I think it's great that not only are they supporting this game 18 months after release, but they've made a video to publicise the update. Seems like uncommonly strong support for a game which was deemed a commercial failure upon release.

This has my brain whirring. Sequel incoming? No, no, don't do this to yourself.

Strong support? Isn't this the first update in a year?

I'll be honest, I never expected them to actually deliver on this patch after they missed the original date by a couple of months, but I'm glad they did. Can't wait to try this for myself.

I think at the very least they're going to add it to the next PS+ IGC.

Probably gonna be a Igc title...i was hoping for a health bar personally...but looks like good fun. A ps4 version with some popular characters might sell well.

Would try the power stone formula as well.

These Sir Dan changes rock my fucking socks. And I haven't played Emmett yet but he looks to have gotten some pretty sick buffs too. Hype.

Yep, I don't see a reason why they would even bother with a patch after going so long without an update if it weren't showing up on PS+ soon.

That's great, now what does this have to do with a balance patch being released?

Because it was released on the same day as the Smash Bros Direct, hmmm it's almost like Sony did this on purpose to remind people of their crappy Smash bro clone.

Not being serous

I've never played this, but it looks like it has a lot of characters I like, and the game looks decent. Is the game decent enough for $10 that I see it go for sometimes? I really want to try it.

It's really a pleasant surprise to see the official PlayStation YouTube channel posting a trailer for this patch. There's a sense of validation from it all.

Absolutely. It's a lot of fun with friends and the "campaigns" and trials add up, not to mention the unlocks. Do you have a Vita, PS3, or both?

It's a great game imo and I think it's well worth your $10, and even if you don't like it at least you didn't spend full price.

No amount of patching will make this game fun. Unless they build a whole new system. The fundamental supers are the only way to kill thing is SO bad.

Now I'm in a pickle, do I buy this game, or will this hit ps+ soon? Oh man, shet. If I do see it drop from the 18 it's currently at, I'll bite. This game looks awesome.

Jump on it. You'll have a physical copy you can bring to friends' houses, have the option to trade it in or sell it if need be, and not have to eat up all that hard drive space.

It's also not guaranteed to hit PS+, so you might never get to play it that way. And it's awesome.

PowerStone 1 rocked, an online enabled game in that vein could be awesome :).

I was thinking about making Vita the target platform, so digital might work out better for me, is this cross buy?

Honestly, and this is coming from someone who has put in dozens of hours into this game, it's worth $10 and absolutely no more. It's alright for some quick fun with some friends or some random matches online, but don't go in expecting the long lasting entertainment offered by some other games like Marvel vs Capcom, Smash Bros or Street Fighter. Some characters are broken beyond repair and confirm kills give some characters a huge advantage over other no matter how good you are.

Still, I can't say that I hate the game as I still play it from time to time, but I can't say I particularly like it either. I'd give it a 5/10 and say that if you like the franchises represented (which I do) then give it a shot.

Yup. I know if you buy it on PS3 you get both, but I'm not 100% positive if it goes both ways.

Either way, I used to play the campaigns on my Vita during lunch breaks to unlock new costumes, taunts, etc, and then use them during PS3 matches. Hell, it's even cross-play, so you can use your Vita as an extra "controller" when playing on the PS3.

What do you think of the change notes? Looks like Kratos is getting toned down, Big Daddy, Jak, & Sir Daniel are getting buffed, etc.

Wow nice to see a patch. Thought they would have given up on that after saying no more DLC. Hopefully this means more than just bringing back old players and the like. As others have said would love to see another go of PSABR.

I spent only $20 on this turd and regretted every penny of it. Nice to see Sony still trying to polish it, though.

Well, how many console games continue to be patched 18 months after release? And get a trailer highlighting said patch? Compared to the norm, this is 'strong' support.

They also added four characters and a few stages early on, too, across two platforms. That was a while back, obviously, but like you said- this kind of patch is sort of unprecedented this late in the game for a fighter, if not out of the ordinary and pleasantly surprising.

I would be willing to almost do a ban bet (I wont) that Sony is going for the nostalgia throat this E3..... Im calling it now that they are going to be "rebooting"/sequeling a lot of old IPs by hiring indy companies to make small games

Yeah it's really seeing that way and honestly wouldn't surprise me.
Hell something like a new Crash alone would blow up GAF.

I love this game so much. It's a permanent fixture on my Vita memory card. Glad to see they finally released a patch. I'd love to see Sony release a PS4 version just to build out that PS4 library. I think tjat would drum up more interest in the game also.

Such an under-appreciated game. Will download this patch as soon as I can, on the bus to work at the moment.

I need to experience some of them, but they seem I be much better than the last update's. Cole's level 1 being nerfed a bit makes me happy as it seems it may be a bit harder to confirm kill. Kratos still seems like he gains AP like a monster so I'll have to see that one first hand.

I like that Jak seems to have more combo potential now, but hated seeing that his blaster got nerfed again. It was pretty useless at 6 AP per shot, I was hoping it would be increased a bit. I'll try him out I see if he's as decent as I expect him to be.

Raiden still has more confirms than most characters combined, but being able to mash out of his Lvl 2 is a welcome change. Especially since I thought it was always implemented xD

Jak was always my favorite character, so I'm glad to see a bunch of small tweaks for him adding up. Sir Daniel has some real improvements, Big Daddy too.

I can't wait to find time to play it this week. I might patch the Vita version this afternoon at the office.

I thought Sony handled All Stars pretty terribly up to this point, but it's really good to see them actually going and tweaking a lot of the issues the game had. Just a shame how the entire saga turned out till now.

Also nicely timed to hit the same day as Nintendo's Smash Direct - todays a good day for people who like their multi-franchise crossover fighters!

Nice to see games getting balance updates post-release. I bought this and barely touched it due to backlog I'll have to fire it up again.

They didn't nerf Big Daddy's down+triangle? Uuuugh

Mostly I'm pretty happy though! Especially about the DLC sale, which is something I've been waiting for. Hopefully Kat+Emmett will be $2 too so I can pick up all four characters.

Funny how this is released on the same day as the Smash Direct. Coincidence?

In any case, I'm glad this patch finally came out, though, it doesn't look like they hit Kratos with the nerf bat anywhere near as hard as they should have. Now they just need to package all the DLC together for a cheap price and I can pick that up for a little bit of additional PSASBR fun.

Jak seems to honestly be the same as 1.11 Jak but with more combos. That's not necessarily bad since there are a lot of system changes that could work in his favour (and I will admit, having a burst without needing a wall is refreshing) but in terms of pure character changes he didn't get a whole lot that would really help him out or even bring him back to his somewhat decent 1.10 status

He's got a few AP buffs now, too, which is good to see:

Jak and Daxter
Neutral Square and air neutral Square now generate 35 AP (previously 30), with Jak’s primary strikes gaining 30 AP while Daxter’s strikes gain 5 AP (previously 26+4).

F+Square now generates 10 AP (previously 5), recovery has been reduced to 29 frames (previously 31), and can be canceled into U+Circle.

Neutral Circle and air neutral Circle drone durability has been increased to 11 AP (previously 1), and the drone now bounces off walls and level bounds instead of exploding on contact.

U+Circle now generates 10 AP (previously 5).
