Playstation All Stars Battle Royale Major Balance Patch 1.12 Released

He's got a few AP buffs now, too, which is good to see:

These are okay but they only help his combo game

All of the decent tools he had in 1.10 that got nerfed big time didn't really get any attention, and if they did they were made even worse now (see Blaster). It's nice he actually got some AP changes (thank goodness Peace Maker actually got looked at for once) but I still don't think these are what he really needs to be decent (besides the Peace Maker increase, it was bollocks it only gave 5 AP)

I would be willing to almost do a ban bet (I wont) that Sony is going for the nostalgia throat this E3..... Im calling it now that they are going to be "rebooting"/sequeling a lot of old IPs by hiring indy companies to make small games

I think you're pretty accurate with that prediction, and I would squeal like a joyful infant if they were to make an Alundra sequel. Keep the style of the original, keep the music (the soundtrack was awesome) and make it a 2D digital game with the same wonderful balance of combat, exploration and puzzles as the original.

As for who would develop it, I'd meet with the original developers Matrix Software, Climax Software (Landstalker), Climax Group (Sudeki) and Polytron (Fez). I don't know how many people are at Polytron, but from the puzzles in Fez and the really smooth controls I get the impression they could do a good job with Alundra.

Two characters and a stage as DLC, is considered dlc-fuck-fest?
It has a ton of cosmetic DLC, as well as four characters plus two stages, and actually has the nerve to have CPUs use them in one player mode whether the player has them or not. It's... probably the worst DLC experience I've had in a game. It's utterly shameless.

People need to stop talking about a PS4 port/sequel. You're gonna get me all excited and then I'm gonna cry.

What there is nothing exciting about a new PSABR that is based on Powerstone instead of SSB, with improved roster and new characters like Delsin using neon, smoke and [redacted] powers where each super is the karma bomb of that power, or Tomba with a jumping bite attack.... and then throw in some odd ball stages like Intelligent Cube and Journey desert with a unified artstyle that is somewhere in between jak and daxter and SSX where realistic character get a slight cartoony look to fit in with the other characters...nothing exciting about that

You mean the four characters, two of which were given away for free for a month after release and the other two which were given away with GoW: Ascension and currently cost $1.99 on the PS Store? And the two stages that you only have to pay for if you want to use them offline or when hosting an online match?

how shameless

The character and stage DLC has been handled decently enough, but the cosmetics are handled utterly awfully. It felt like the game was advertizing itself while I played single player, and that should NOT be the case.

Cosmetic DLC is so utterly harmless... and I've certainly had worse DLC experiences.

Getting free characters/stages and such early was such a nice perk, too, that I find it silly to accuse All-Stars of having "the worst DLC experience." None of it was ever shoved in your face or given prompts, like in a modern EA game. I never had a loading screen encourage me to buy a season pass or something.

Getting to play a new stage (without having even bought it) in campaign that was patched in isn't what I'd call a chore.

Honestly I wouldn't change the basic gameplay. Haters gonna hate, I don't care if they call it a clone or whatever.

Not really. The only cosmetics are costumes (the majority of which were also free if you pre-ordered the game) and minions (which everyone knows are completely worthless anyway). Seems pretty reasonable to me.

Gee, chill dude. Cosmetics won't harm your experience of the game.

You must have missed Street Fighter X Tekken if you honestly believe this was the most shameless DLC experience ever

I picked this game up the other day after not playing it a few months after launch. Great to see it got some support. I should probably try to capitalize on this balancing and see if I can get a platty out of it.

Actually the character DLC is what is handled worse. They just shouldn't exist. In order to make them appealing, they need to be good characters. So now we have people like Zeus who were way over powered because they needed to entice people to buy him.

Zeus OP lol

if they do make a sequel

let them keep the fighting system the worked on but improve on the character design and add more first party while dropping those third party
The only characters that should be dropped are Isaac, Dante (possibly to be replaced with classic), Evil Cole for Delsin, and Raiden if they can get Snake. And maybe Zeus. No way they should ditch Heihachi just cause he's third party

they should just blatantly rip off smash tbh. allstars was good fun at first, but quickly descended into bullshit.

Like the guy with the gun, use invis, move to other side, shoot, repeat.

also the only way to kill with super moves got boring fast. When playing the smash games with people I would never get bored, because they were always fun.

Big Daddy should go
Issac
New Dante for Old
and fuse the two Coles

Even though Zeus is another GoW character he has a place in this way more then other people.
He also has a good move list
There's actually a lot of cosmetic DLC between costumes and minions, plus four characters, two stages, etc, but nothing really criminal.

I got all the characters through other means

the first two from the free month
the second two from GoW Ascension

I agree they should fuse the Coles. Zeus can stay, no big deal - he is a ton of fun to play. And maybe I rationally recognize that Big Daddy didn't deserve to be in the game, but I like him.

They didn't touch Raiden, but they FURTHER nerfed Evil Cole?

Wow. Just...wow.

At least Sweet Tooth's got another guaranteed super now with up throw into level 2.

And no real nerfs to Sackboy's bullshit either. Not even a timer or hitbox reduction on his OP shockpad.

They touched Raiden, maybe not quite as hard as he could have given all of his confirms (maybe remove like 1 or 2) but still these are good changes.

Raiden
Fourth neutral Square and fifth air neutral Square now generate 25 AP (previously 30).

Air D+Triangle landing can now be canceled into attacks after 5 frames, or blocking and jumping after 10 frames, but movement and supers are prohibited for the full 20 frames.

Air neutral Circle counter now causes a mini-launch lift reaction.

F+Circle -> B+Square now has a 5-frame cancel delay, and F+Circle can be canceled into D+Square with the same timing.

Level 1 Super startup has been increased to 32 frames (previously 26) and recovery has been increased to 70 frames (previously 64).

Level 1 Super no longer allows turning after the first 5 frames, but movement is enabled after Raiden begins spinning.

Level 2 Super no longer allows blocking, rolling, or air dodging, no longer remains invincible during recovery, and duration has been shortened to 6.5 seconds (previously 7 sec).

Level 2 Super activation EMP stun can be reduced from 3 seconds to 2 seconds by rapidly mashing inputs, and Circle attack stun can be similarly reduced from 1.5 seconds to 1 second.
Parappa and Raiden’s lvl2 supers are no longer considered grounded during air recovery.

Isaac and Raiden’s air attack landing states have been standardized, preventing them from performing supers for 11 frames (previously 5).

Raiden is so telegraphed in everything he does anyway.

I seriously hope that this is not the end of their tweaking. I would love to see a cheap and easy F2P PS4 port that got DLC updates with new PS4 characters etc.

Vita update is 718MB (makes the game 2.1GB)
PS3 update is 1.1 GB (and keeping in mind that you need twice that space in order to download it)

I think one of the best ways Raiden could have been made less god teir would be to make his Lvl 2 unable to just regularly attack and kill. He should have to use th zandatsu to get his kills exclusively. Otherwise, it's still just as powerful as his Lvl 3, if not more so.

Honestly, I think it's a perfect fit for F2P. Lock all the non-essential vanity junk behind a paywall while keeping core content (maps and characters) free and get a vastly bigger playerbase as a result.

I agree. I doubt if they rereleased this on PS4 as a paid game that it would sell a whole lot. Put it f2p with some costumes as dlc or something and it could gain a decent amount of players. I know I wouldn't rebuy it, but I'd check it out if it were f2p.

I just want to say what a positive change it is that weapons and hazards now eject medium AP (previously light). It brings items and stage hazards into the fold with importance that always should have been there for this kind of game.

Also they have increased the gamma on the Vita version, I am almost completely positive, and it is for the better since things are much easier to track, and it unifies the characters a lot more (even if rake looks a little weird during his intros now).

Standardizing rolls and air doges is also great.

True, I feel like his level 3 is a vanity move as it is. It is like a redundant level 2 used to embarrass your opponent's via Metal Gear humor and cardboard box cameo. Honestly I am not a big fan of a lot of the level 3s in the game, thankfully the community seems to gravitate more towards level 1 and level 2s, so I am fine with another character on the roster that does not pull a level 3 often.

I'll admit that I glossed over the super nerfs, but it was mainly his confirms,so we'll see how it works. Will see if my buddy's down for some games today.

Who knows, maybe this is an indication of something, fans are probably not feeling as scorned after this show of good faith
It did take them over a year for this "show of good faith" though. Not complaining, but I wouldn't be surprised if this wasn't a very high priority. I honestly don't expect a sequel for a while.

Zeus was over powered. Well, specifically his rolling/dodging move. He was impossible to hit when someone used that thing over and over. Luckily it seems they nerfed that so he's not nearly as bad anymore.
