PS5 Pro Specs Leak are Real, Releasing Holiday 2024(Insider Gaming)

PC and console markets operate under different business models. Consoles are traditionally sold at little to no profit, or even at a loss, with the real profits coming from the sale of games like Wukong and accessories such as Dual Senses.

On the other hand, Nvidia generates revenue directly from the sale of its graphics cards. Unlike consoles, GeForce is not a platform. This means that we might be paying double or even more than the actual cost of Nvidia GPUs.
Yeah, but the traditional model of selling a loss is sadly disappearing. And then again it’s not a matter of how much loss Sony can afford, but what competition does it has and at what price, that is how I lay my argument in the previous post. I think they can get away selling this at 649€.

Yeah it's me, sadly I can't use twitter anymore.
We are lucky to have you around here, just don't let the hardcore fanatics drive you away :)

Like when do you think we see the next generation Xbox?

Wait, why are everybody assuming he’s the real deal and making him questions? Did I miss the part where he is verified? Is in another thread?
So in your book its guilty until proven innocent?

He hasn't said anything that is off to me... so we give him the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise.

I only saw one box that was digital only but it looks like it will use the same detachable drive that’s currently sold.

It was an NDA I signed a year ago that expired on Sept 1st from visiting Sonys packaging facility

What else do you know that was covered under the NDA that expired lol

In theory, if PSSR was available on the standard PS5, what kind of performance boost would we see over the current system?

This is very difficult to answer without getting hands on, but we hear time and again how DLSS greatly helps older GPU's to play the latest titles. In terms of resolutions (I realise PSSR helps in other areas) would we be looking at a 10% improvement or closer to 50%?

Much of the talk so far has been about 'old school' hardware improvements, be it GPU, RT, CPU, SSD etc. But PSSR could be the biggest differentiator and that seems to be a complete unknown! I'm particularly interested to see how someone like Cerny utilises it and how it will improve with development.

This question doesn't make a lot of sense for a few reasons. The first one is that PSSR is an upscaling method using ML. It has dedicated hardware for this. The regular PS5 does not, so you can't even hypothesize the performance. However, on PC at least, DLSS and FSR have a similar performance cost.

The second one is that there is no set "performance boost". This entirely depends on the input and output resolutions. A game with an internal res of 1080p outputting at 1440p will be more performant the the same game with an internal res of 1080p outputting to 4K. For a rough idea, you can take a look at FSR. Imagine that the Pro will use a higher base resolution and a higher output resolution as well. The quality will presumably be much higher and the performance more stable. This isn't a question that can be readily answered. It's not like increasing clocks that impact a large part of the rendering. If a game is 1080p using FSR to upscale to 4K on the PS5, it can probably go to 1440p and output to 4K on the Pro while retaining similar performance. Not only is the base resolution significantly higher, but the upscaling method is also superior, which will result in a much better image quality for the same performance. This is just an example.

I’m fine with that. Push it to 2027 for i care lol
As long as we don't have another shortage situation for PS6. I spent all day and night trying to get a PS5 pre order. Was finally able to get one at 2am.

But it seems like it was sold out instantly for a year lol.

My bet on PS5 Pro prices:

PS5 Pro 1TB | U$ 549
PS5 Pro 1TB (no disc) | U$ 499
PS5 | U$ 449
PS5 (no disc) U$ 399

Yeah, you'll be surprised!

The objective of the PS5 Pro is not to generate significant revenue through hardware sales but to reinvigorate PS5 platform sales and ensure its technical relevance for another 4 years.
What if they offer a 2TB option for $100.00 more? I'd buy it. I've already got the 4TB WD Black SSD, so that would give me 6TB total.

This is a good theory that has a big problem: the current price of PC parts. No way they are going to give you a capable 4K reconstructing machine for 550$ when building a similar PC is way more, and buying one pre made easily doubles that. Price isn’t about cost, is about value. And Sony will profit from that.
That was the case for the launch of the PS5 as well. Building a PC about equivalent to the PS5 at launch was around $1100, to do the same for the Pro today would roughly be the same.

I was just being cautious. Not that I care. I don’t understand a word of what tech leakers say. They post on Twitter some numbers and everybody is tripping balls. And I have to assume that the next GPU gen is mid or fantastic based on the reaction to those numbers.

I made an account many months ago but only got approved recently.

Welcome to the community, even if it is just till you get your X access restored

But it’s great to have you here, although with your many listed tweets and references it’s like you’ve been in this thread since the start 😁

And I like the 4nm thought. Although it’s just an improved 5 node. Being on 6 doesn’t help Sony with power and thermals and limits clock speed as a result

Random Tuesday for an announcement trailer?
I think we will see a announcement this week, maybe this is overthinking it but the Apple event is next Monday, and the that means the tech sites will all spend the next fortnight obsessed with the new iPhones taking some of the spotlight away from the pro.

TGS is just around the corner as well

Perhaps...

But remember, Sony and Apple DID both have their events on the same exact day - September 7th, 2016.

Doubt that'll happen again this time around - but I thought that was pretty funny back in the day, and made for an exciting day overall for the cross section of gaming and tech enjoyers such as myself. That was back when Apple events were still somewhat exciting to care about. We hadn't reached "peak smartphone" quite yet, although we were getting close.

Some form of packaging was ready

I don’t know if what I saw was retail or prototype or what

I have told people this many times the Pro was ready to go last year but Sony held off for whatever reasons

I think they wanted to give PSSR more time to cook
I still remember seeing test report data in the error reports menu of my day one PS Vita back in the day, and I was surprised by the age of the reports IIRC it was nearly two years before launch, and I always wondered if mine was an original R&D prototype board or devkit that had been reworked and made it through to a retail product.

But if they've had Pros in retail boxes this long, then maybe it was just a regular unit. I do know from many, many years back - long before the world cared about recycling - that Sony UK used to rework all their defective or returned products and sell them onto staff via a monthly email at just 10%-25% off retail price ,despite the items not being retail repackaged, so if Sony's plans changed for those Pros you saw, I'd have no doubt they'd have reworked them and sold them as standard PS5 slims, upgraded as devkits, or reworked those boards for another product line beyond consoles or internal use like blades.

It will be fascinating to see if they've just had them in a warehouse all this time untouched.
