Look. It's not hard to understand
PS5 is the only way to fully enjoy Sony's ecosystem. That's why sales are important
Xbox Series X is one of the ways to enjoy Xbox ecosystem. That's why sales of hardware are not as important. But still important. But they will never tell you full picture anymore.

But Microsoft understands that not every schmuck wants to deal with PC Gaming and that's why they still making consoles. And of course, if you make something you want to sell it.

But the difference is: If Microsoft will sell only 20 million XsX consoles in 5 years it could be more then OK, because GP is in cloud and on PC. But when Sony will sell only 20 million PS5's in 5 years, they can close their shit out.

Someone else asked if you thought Crackdown 3 was the only MS game released on the service.

You asked "What quality has been released then?"

You never mentioned any 3 to 5 year window. I provided you a list of MS exclusive titles on the service. That didn't answer your question? Are any of the games I listed "decent quality"?

These gamepass threads are so weird. How can people not see how incredible a service it is? Fuck, it's SO good that I'm sure it's not going to last much longer.

Repeating myself for the 10Th time, gamepass has introduced me to games I would never ever have tried. Seeing a game on the "new releases " list and just saying to myself "ehh, why not" is an awesome feeling. One of these games is Children of Morta (I'm a shill for this game,everyone should play it). But this is just one example of many games I've discovered.

And to those saying that it takes sales away or some shit...NOPE!! The Surge 2 was so fucking good I bought the dlcs and the Surge 1 and all the dlcs (if you're a souls fan, please play Surge 2) Same for a couple other sequels.

I think Phil has come to terms that they are not going to take Sony head-to-head in console sales. The next best thing (and may even be better in the long run) is to expand the customer base beyond consoles. I am just glad to see them taking the PC market serious again.

My first instinct is you're right. But I wonder what percentage of people buy more than a couple games a year (excluding roster updates, I mean sports games). Something tells me its high. If true, then gamepass might be the best thing MS can do. They would make more in rental fees every year than sales for those people.

$60 per game is very expensive even though i can afford them as an old gamer. What do you do when you completed them?
I rather wait for steam sales.
Imo rental or Gamepass is the way forward for most of us oldies, you can simply unsubscibe if you are in a busy period.
At the same time, developers on Gp get paid too.

Phil mentioned about the covid recession, i can see why they are doubling down on Gp.

Those were always coming (GaaS) before we even heard of Game Pass. The biggest one in a while Marvel's Avengers isn't on Game Pass and MMO's have been around for decades. MS has and will continue to add studios that will make smaller games like Psychonauts and Grounded and big ones like Hellblade and Forza. You guys are bringing up indy type games and GaaS like they are the result of Game Pass when they have been around forever lol

Maybe Sony should push it harder. It's pretty crazy that it barely has under 2% of the userbase on Now while Xbox has 20+% of theirs on GP. Hmmm, maybe it's the newer game thing. This will only improve in the coming generation. It has already been improving but this Holiday going into next year will see it explode. I suspect Sony will change Now and I can't wait for the Sony boys to change their time when it happens.

I’m not saying GaaS is a byproduct of GamePass. But Halo and Forza are going the GaaS way. Sea of thieves already is. Rumor is that Fable will be, and who knows about avowed. I believe from now on almost every single big game from MS will be GaaS and I do think Gamepass does affect that on MS’s end.

Maybe so but I think the whole industry is chasing that Fortnite money Game Pass or not. If EA really bought WB imagine what they will do with those licenses. I can't blame MS wanting to get some of the pie with Halo. I think we can blame Epic for that more than Game Pass. Don't worry, you'll still have PlayStation. MS being more successful than this gen is a good thing overall. Sony needs competition to be kept in line.

Maybe its not as profitable as MS would have you think hence sony nor nintendo following the same strategy?

I gave you a tweet by a reliable person that Xbox One was over 50M at the beginning of March 2020. To finish 'close to 60M', it needs to sell at least another 8M until being discontinued.

From Microsoft's Q4 earnings report we know that Xbox hardware was up 64% YOY from April to June. Under these conditions, with the current pandemic not going away anytime soon and the multiplayer paywall getting removed, it doesn't require a lot of believing that 8M are doable with one holiday left and maybe another 6 months afterwards.

If you want to believe otherwise, be my guest. As I said, if you believe hard enough, it won't sell these additional 8M units.

I don't see that happening. Basically because it would just be a really inefficient strategy.

If almost every big game is GaaS, who has anywhere near enough hours in the day to play them all? They don't want subscribers burning out on a game or two & getting fed-up, they want us interested in coming back for more & trying different things. Because then the service is a more attractive proposition, more people will enjoy using it & it will generate more positive word of mouth. The best way to accomplish that is by giving us a wide selection of different kinds of games to choose from. Including big time sink GaaS stuff (like Forza Horizon) & more straightforward linear stuff (like Hellblade 2) & everything in between (Battletoads, Grounded, Ori...).

MS also, specifically, took the time to say that they are not going to force their studios to make anything in particular. They said they want variety. They want different teams making different things. Which you can believe or not, but at the least it does make sense for their long-term goals.

I really don't see it going the way you think it will. But of course, time will tell.

Wow at the other thread claiming Gold is going away. That would be huge but I won't believe it until I see MS announce it. I think that will definitely boost GPU subs. People are already used to paying for a sub. No big deal to transfer to a MUCH better deal.

It's always been a money sink at first similar to Netflix. Especially at only 2 mil subs. At 30+ it will be huge and I think MS will get there in no time.

So I have to pay $15 a month for game pass and then pay another $60 or so each for Cyberpunk, FF7 Remake, Baldur’s Gate 3, Elden Ring, RDR2, Ghost of Tsushima, Last of us 2, new Spider-Man... etc.

I’d rather not add a other recurring subscription to play B-games and just buy the games I want.

Hopefully this thing fails because history has shown that companies will eventually both jack up the price on the subscription and squeeze publishers once they hit a critical mass. Fuck games as a service and fuck micro transactions [/oldmanrant].

What else are they going to talk about?

Notice every other console fan has talked about games this year? From Nioh 2 to Xenoblade to TLOU to Paper Mario to Ghosts.

Every week we see atleast one thread about the incredible value of Gamepass, because there isn't much else for Xbox fans to talk about. I expect this will continue until CyberPunk comes out.

I was only arguing that it may be better for MS than traditional sales to casuals, but there's definitely an argument for it benefiting consumers as well. As with most things there are pros and cons, and I'm happy for everyone who gets it and loves it.

Yeah, Sony is crying after 113M console sold in 7 years. I'm sure they expect a disaster for PS5 because of GamePass.

The Xbox brand is dead outside US, nobody cares. Nothing can change that

With MS biggest games being F2P now I think that gamepass just got worse.

correction: it was pointed out to me that only Halo was made F2P, so far. My phrasing was incorrect, maybe it's only a one time thing.

Nope. You don't need to pay full price. There are constantly deals on subscription cards online. Amazon, CD Keys, take a look & you'll find them. Keep your subscription topped up at a discount easily.

Every game is automatically discounted for as long as it remains on the service as well. Should you choose to buy any of them, you save money again.

Also, "B games"? Check out the list of games, available right now, that I posted in this thread.

One shooter and it's the MP portion, you still need GP for the singleplayer. The doom and gloom continues from the usual suspects.

That would be a smart deal for MS. The back of the box could say, comes with Game Pass and all of these games(list of launch GP games plus 100+ more). Then the fine print would advise that in able to keep playing them a GP subscription is required. Easy way to get and keep subs.

Game Pass is the inevitable future, it's adorable though to see people try with all their might to downplay it and being salty as F. Oh, FYI there's absolutely nothing stopping anyone from buying the game they want outright.

Thing with gamepass is that every game offered (outside of 1st party) is old-ish. If ms 1st will be good with the veriaty they offer, I can see the value.

But Im not going to sub for games I already played or for indie games.

I have friends who love the idies gp has and they are more than happy to sub. Not for me though. I'm looking forward to new games on both sides.
