Resident Evil 4 Remake |OT| Welcome back stranger! What are you RE-buyin'

Chapter 15 is exhausting, too much brainless action.
You can skip two of those sections. Use grenades on the turret. And have bugs glitch you out of the laser.

But yes, its brutal. its the last few sections of the game so just enjoy it and go nuts.
LOL I didn't know you COULD kill him......I thought it was meant to be an unkillable boss so I didn't even try. Once he destroyed all the showers I figured that was the game telling me to just run.

Once you've destroyed all the showers, just unload a few more shots into him and he should go down even if hes not in a freeze state.

You guys think this is better than 2 remake? Idk. 4 has better combat for sure, but 2 is one of the most atmospheric games ever made. I feel like 4 lost its identity just a little bit by toning down the camp.

Real close for me.

I have finished the remake 6 times already. I need to stop. I feel like I'm going to be burnt out by the time VR mode comes out, whatever that mode might involve.

Verdugo took less ammo than I expected based on the hype. One 6 shots from a dead stock Magnum and a couple more freezes with shotgun pepper. I was surprised. I wouldn't hesitate to go that route again. Running laps for 5 minutes sounds harder.

Mr X being around so much ruined RE2make for me. I wish someone could mod him out. Aside from that it's one of the next best remakes after RE4

Well it's been almost a couple weeks, I've done 6 playthroughs and completed 100% of the game at this point. I think I can safely say this is the best Resident Evil game since the OG RE4. RE2 Remake was pretty great, but the loss of the Scenario A/B feature was why I can't put it in S tier with it's original counterpart. For reference here is how I rank the Resident Evil games as lifelong super fan.

I get that. 4 is definitely more like replayable for me as well since you don’t have to worry about getting chased around so often. But I also really like what Mr X brought to the game. Trying to figure out where exactly his footsteps were coming from was unforgettable. And planning out your routes to avoid him as much as possible. He was like the final test of how efficiently you could navigate the police station.

I remember cowering in that safe room near the stairs for like 10 minutes lol

I never played OG RE4, but RE2 was my favorite until now.

RE4 is definitely better. Still extremely atmospheric, but it has perfect pacing thus far. RE2 kinda loses something in the sewers imho. Don't like MrX being everywhere too...

I'm gonna defend Mr. X here. On repeat playthroughs I understand why he's annoying. You've got the game figured out, you've beaten it more than once, the fear's been taken out of you, you want to progress, but Mr. X keeps getting in your way. But on your first playthrough? Please bitch, that guy was one of the scariest enemies in the entire series. The sound design itself of his footsteps coming closer and closer, or hearing them on the floor above you, were enough to freak people out. We hate him now, but I feel like we've forgotten what it was like the first time we experienced that game. The endless memes and reaction videos were gold too.

It reminds me of House Beneviento from RE8. Amazing section of the game the first time you play it. But becomes slow, boring and tedious on repeat playthroughs.

I do agree RE2 loses a little bit of luster once you reach the sewers. Not bad by any means, but it’s hard to maintain the standard it set with the RPD.

If you own the DLC treasure map ... is there any reason the buy the area-specific maps from the merchant? Is it redundant?

Also, I've found two small keys ... should I be saving these or just using them at the first available opportunity?

They show different treasues. The merchant maps show what's in the game by default.

Eh, up to you really. There's enough keys to open every locked drawer but there are points where you can't get back to older drawers and you will have to backtrack if you try for all of them.

I’ll finally receive my PS5 copy later today.

Anything I should do to improve the aiming or the default settings work just fine?

Thanks!!

Options > Camera > When Aiming >

Camera Speed: set to something very low, like 20%
Camera Acceleration: set to max!

(Again, just for 'When Aiming'.)

The maximum acceleration will get rid of the deadzones, while the low camera speed will allow you to actually aim.

Just beat Krauser last night. Much prefer him in the original. It’s cool you fight him in the first encounter instead of it being a cutscene, but other than that fighting him is more or less the same as in the OG. His character motivations and definitely voice were much better in the OG.

OG: Mercenary who’s jaded ex-military and works for Wesker while having a semi rivalry with Ada for Wesker’s favor. Plays both sides but ends up being played in the end. A tragic character in a way that’s more subtle.

Remake: Argh! I went crazy in South America bro! Have you seen apocalypse now bro? Ultimate power bro! Who’s Ada? What do you mean I sound like my balls haven’t dropped? I got two arms now! Leon I trained you now you have to kill me isn’t that tragic?!

For me swap RE5 with RE7. In 7 once you go to Lucas’s shack the game starts to dip in quality, whereas RE5 is enjoyable throughout as long as you play co-op (SP I’d keep it in B). Other than that I’d mostly agree with this.

I thought they used him for too long. It would have been cool if it was just one shorter defined section.

I agree, but same could be said for the Island in RE4. A lot of RE games dip in quality in the third act. I believe RE7 is a great game that deserves it's spot. It should also get credit for saving the franchise. Capcom took a risk allowing Re7's dev team to move forward with their vision and it paid off. Even if I thought the game itself was B tier, I would still award it an A for saving Resident Evil.

I think RE2R is the best RE game overall but I do agree Mr.X is one of the few complaints I have with it. He should be there, but only in B-scenarios. As is, the A and B are very similar now, it would be masterful if Mr.X was just put there to troll you in a second run.

I think the remake still suffers from pacing issues similar to the original. This happens on the island segment for both.

OG has enough breathing room in between set pieces. Remake does this as well through the backtracking in both the village and castle sections.

Pacing ramps up significantly in the island section. While appropriate because it is the final act, it definitely does feel like non-stop action.

Coincidentally, the only break from this on both games is the regenerator sections as it functions more like a horror game.

Agreed with this take. No other enemy in the series had me frozen in fear listening to footsteps on a different floor and while trying to force myself to edge out of safe room. Amazing experience, the first time. On repeat playthroughs though, you can master him enough that he barely comes up before you complete his sections. IMO he's not even that much of an annoyance.

Guns and gear don't carry over on a new playthrough on a harder difficulty do they? That's was the case in the OG version right? So am I guessing right that NG+ puts you on the same difficulty but with all your collected gear?

Are there any unlockables that can be used on higher difficulty new game?

Everything carries over. Including your items and ammo. You can also increase the difficulty as long as you select the save file the game asks you to generate for a NG+ run. It will be in green. You will use that to start a new game+ instead of selecting New Game from the menu.

Finishing the game on Professional in under 7 hours gets you the Tommy Gun Chicago Sweeper. You can do this on NG+. Double check to confirm if its A or S rank. S rank is 5 hours and 30 minutes.

Cat Ears and the magnum (unlimited ammo) you can only get on NG Professional difficulty. You start with nothing but if you unlocked the Chicago Sweeper, you should have it available from the start. You can unlock its unlimited ammo perk by doing side quests and buying the exclusive perk from the Merchant.

I am on my third run. First one on normal, second on hardcore. Bought the RPG at the very end of my hardcore run. Killed the final boss in two hits with it and have been running through professional NG+ to unlock the chicago sweeper. Then I will do the S+ run which is going to be rough since you cannot save more than 16 times.

Thanks for that informative reply bro!

I'm quite dense so when finishing a game I can choose a higher difficulty while keeping my shit?

You've just made my day.

Jack Nicholson Thank You GIF

Yeah, basically the only downside to New Game Plus is you can’t achieve a S+ rank (all other ranks are achievable).

To get a S+ rank, you have to be playing a fresh New Game (but you can use bonus weapons and such you’ve unlocked).

Also, anytime you finish the game, be sure to check the CP shop in the main menu (think it’s in the section labeled Extras) as a few of the bonus weapons like the unbreakable knife have to be unlocked there once you’ve met the requirements (I think the knife simply requires beating the game once).

Do most of you agree this game (besides on the spot skill based intuition) is a lot about foresight regarding the location of valuable resources and manipulating crowd control such as to inflict maximum damage with as less of resources spent (including environmental assets) ?

Definitely the former (location of valuable resources).

Anyone buy the body armor? Is it worth it?
Definitely. Especially for boss fights. Lets you tank 4-5 hits.

If you have the charm, you can repair for it for 30% off so only 6k pestos instead of 9k.

If you're not struggling with the difficulty level then dont bother and use that cash to upgrade your weapons.

Okay, after around 6 years of this new RE Age and after Village and RE4 in two years, I think I’m getting a little worn out of the whole in the woods/village setting.

I really want something different next, specially from RE9.
At least RE5 Remake will have some diverse environments and color palette.

So I was nearing the end of my New Game Professional playthrough, ch.14 Krauser with 5h on the clock. It's been intense, one Mt. Everest to climb after another...

Armor for Ashley helps a ton, got my Chicago Typewriter upgrade ticket on ch. 10 due to missing a merchant request by the lake as I'm dashing through every area as quick as possible. Didn't even bother with Hardcore so no chicken mask, if you beat Prof S+ it unlocks the trophies for Standard/Hardcore so I thought I'd stack em up. Bought my rocket launcher for the Saddler fight, beat Salazar in less than a minute with 1 golden egg and Tommy gun to finish him off. Zero glitch/skips. Kept looking at the clock thinking "damn, I'm cutting it real close".

And now the moral of the story: yesterday I was reading up on getting S+ on Professional and apparently you can't exceed 15 saves in addition to the 5h30m time limit. Are you fucking kidding me?! I'm waaaay past 15 saves ffs, wasted an entire playthrough. Hopefully this post helps anyone attempting it if they weren't 100% clear on the requirements. After almost 4 playthroughs I'm going to take a break, game is still god-tier but this had me royally pissed lol.

Anyone else having issues with motion sickness?

I’m highly susceptible to it, it’s mostly only applied to VR so far but for some reason playing this on my PC has me feeling sick and sweaty after about half hour. Sucks too as PC with M/KB I find a far superior way to play as opposed to using a controller (not to mention having everything at the highest settings), but at least PS5 doesn’t make me want to puke.

I can make a controller work I guess, but has anyone found a solution for this? Something about the camera or the way the game moves my brain finds disagreeable. ☹️

It helped “save” the series, but objectively I just don’t like the half of the game that isn’t the more Metroidvania-like Baker house section. Makes it harder to want to replay than other games in the series, and loses points for me. Still a good game.
