You never put your prize horse in a secondary tournament when you have the option to show it at the main event. But then again we don’t know Nintendo’s plans for BC on Switch 2 and whether or not native upgrades/updates are planned or not.

The general wisdom of MP4 being the big headline first-party crown jewel for launch day like BotW (Wii U/ Switch) was for Switch launch still seems like the most realistic scenario, and of course Mario Kart or something else big as well for the the more mainstream.

The only way it makes sense to me is if the Switch 2 Direct will only focus on games that are next-gen only. But then again Nintendo and "making sense" have never gone hand in hand.

He used to attend plenty of gaming events so I imagine its contacts he got there. Some of things he's talked about won't have come from advertising companies.

These rumors today seem like the start of a report on “How Nintendo can screw up Switch 2”. We are very close now though, we just have to wait and see next week. MP4 is very strange though. It did feel like to me it would be a BoTW, or Twilgiht Princess situation.

I don’t buy the argument about MP2 not being out, holding MP4 release back. If it was me, it would be one of my first GameCube games released on NSO along with Smash Melee!

I think that’s exactly what they’ll do. Switch 2 Direct is Switch 2 only, no Switch stuff. If it was both they wouldn’t be making it so clear it’s a Switch 2 focused event.

Only caveat is if MP4 or something else is coming out on both. But they’ll showcase the Switch 2 version to show the game in its best light. No doubt a game like MP4 would be a great visual showcase for the new console.

And the best time to do it is before all of it gets overshadowed by Switch 2 stuff, so the timing would seem to make perfect sense. Switch 1 will be the new “3DS”, basically. That got supported til early 2019 with it’s own first-party stuff. Two years into the Switch cycle.

Not necessarily. It could absolutely be a decent length ~30-35min Direct Mini like early 2018 and 2020. Those were dropped on YouTube with no prior announcement. It’s the best way to not draw in an impossible amount of hype, and i can absolutely see them doing this. Nintendo’s allll about expectation management.

It would certainly be their greatest shot yet in 40 years to make Metroid into a more popular brand. It’s been stuck in the low single digits it’s entire existence. Being put up as the big core Switch 2 launch game would easily help it break out and be a 10+ million seller. They’ll get no better chance than this! Possibly ever.

It doesn't make sense to me that they would have a Switch 2 direct, where they try to show the new console but the new game announcements over shadow it.

I just don't think the average person is going to be able to digest whatever weird Nintendo thing is here (hardware/OS wise) while at the same time, it's a release trailer for MP4, MK9, etc etc.

Even if it's a 1hr direct, the Switch 2 games and the Switch 2 console, that's two different conversations. People now want 90 second videos.

Now that XCX is out there’s no other Switch 1 game with a date on the calendar. Timing is perfect. Right at the end of the fiscal year, get all the information out there they want, just in time for the Switch 2 event a week later. Nothing gets overshadowed.

I agree. But, let’s wait and see. It feels like something is amiss. Tons of rumors currently.

Some people on other forums are speculating the launch is very different than we think and the threat of escalating tariffs have “scared Nintendo speechless” and they are scrambling to make sure NS1 has solid release schedule for next year or two.

Another is stating one of the big launch titles is Nintendo’s Minecraft competitor and they are putting tons of work behind it.

If the Direct is this week and next week, we should receive some answers.

I personally thought everything first party yet to release should be enhanced for Switch 2, and i would show it there.
