S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl ⚠️|☢︎T|⚠️ Don't Be a Menace to Bloodsucker While Trying to Catch an Olive in The Zone

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Oh motherfucker ...

anyone else whose playing on a Monitor on console (like me), please make sure to change the Image Encoding setting to sRGB. I was wondering why the nights are so fucking pitch black.

The description says sRGB should be recommended for Monitors and the other one is for TV's.

I can finally see in the night time now.

Bro I cannot get over the US and UK accents. Why did they do this?

The player character sounds like the biggest douchebag they could find. I hate this.
Can't you use ukranian voices and eng subs, someone on reee said this:

make sure to change the spoken language setting off of English folks!
Maybe it enable ukranian voices.

Btw, found a key for 39 euros, it's downloading on steam as we speak, 20 min and it should be ready.

I've been playing in Ukrainian and while it's much better I completely understand why people only play in their native languages. I find that if somebody is talking over the radio there is a good chance that I don't know what they are saying unless I just stand still and only focus on the subtitles. Plus during combat enemies sometimes say things that let you know what they are doing and that gets lost as well.

It's unfortunately the same for me most of the time and I end up switching to English after a few hours. Like I tried playing Stellar Blade in Korean but switched to English, and despite having a love for Japanese language I tend to just use English in Japanese games (and stuff like Ghost) as I don't have to worry about missing stuff.

Not sure why they went the American/British route though as games like Metro have great Eastern European accents IMO.

Played 2 hours, loving it, but the technical state of the game is terrible. Atleast on my pc. The stuttering is horrible, already had 2 crashes too and the controller is kinda shitty without a deadzone settings. Im gonna wait with this

HDR in this game is phenomenal too

Got to be honest here, it’s an awful way to introduce a game making you fumble around in the dark with a weedy little headlamp for illumination.

I did :p and was wondering why it doesn't do jack shit, it was definitely using the wrong encoding option.

Yes, wish I had looked at all that before starting. Would have made the initial on-baording a lot easier.

Anyway, some more SX pics.

The game is atmospheric as fuck, just ran into my first storm.

DLSS frame gen is singlehandedly rescuing my poor 5600X. Excellent performance so far at High preset + Ultra textures @ 1440p on a:

5600X voltage unlocked
32GB DDR4 (quad rank)
4060ti 16GB @ 2800/10600

Frame gen input lag is a little perceptible, but nothing bad.

I perfectly understand what you say, i'm gonna try ukranian voices but i could switch at any moment if my subs reading game is not good with this game for any reason.

I expected performance issues and bugs, no surprise given the development conditions. I also expected horrible voice acting. Reviews are irrelevant.

I'm curious how they've integrated the A-Life from the original in the Unreal Engine 5 though.

1. Is it as good as in the original?
2. Or if there's anyone here who is playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Anomaly/GAMMA that can share some thoughts on how it compares to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2? - THIS is what all the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. fans, including myself, are playing currently. Haven't touched the original trilogy in years. A free, downloadable love-letter finely tuned to perfection. A merger of all the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games, the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game to play once you're done with the original trilogy.

I'll probably wait a few months either way. If the A-Life is bugged, given what i've read from the developers i know they'll fix it with time.

I can't stand not being able to understand the enemy during combat situations. I loved Max Payne 3 but not being able to understand what the enemy was saying really hurt the experience for me. One of my favorite things from the old games was hearing the enemy talk about me or what I was doing.

Apart from the disastrous gunplay, they have absolutely achieved a high-quality atmosphere. I put down the controller every time the storm starts.

Umm, so controls are...perfect on my end??!
Using a xone controller and i don't have drift or floaty feeling for now, but i'm just like 5 min in, i have to kill something yet.

Game runs pretty fine for now.

The wanky audio mix and volume seems to be the worst most noticeable thing for now.

Yeah I took a break after about 4.5 hours and I think when I go back to play I’m gonna switch to English despite the loss in immersion.

Ukrainian dub sounds great to me but I’m not a native speaker. I know basic phrases and can have the most basic of conversations so I’m sure somebody that’s a native speaker would have a better opinion.

I might try putting it on my tv as well. I’ve been playing at my desk on an OLED monitor but wanna see it blown up on my C2. Maybe I’ll try controller as well.

They're not unplayably bad or something, but this could definitely use some deadzone. The camera starts shifting at the slightest touch (at least my controller doesn't have stick drift, as in it doesn't start drifting by itself).

I'm just playing with full aim assist to make sure it's as less of a hindrance in combat as possible.

Initial impressions:

-Fantastic ost and atmosphere
-Classic STALKER gameplay. Fans won't be disappointed
-Prologue ran great, but had a drop in frames as soon as I made it to Zalissya
-Graphics overall are good, but nothing earth shattering. Still a great job for a small team and a worthy upgrade
-No crashes yet (4 hours in)
-I'd say it's worth buying now if you have a good enough PC. Definitely wait if not

A few annoying things for me personally:

-Hunger meter needs customization options
-As does the Day/Night cycle. Goes way too fast
-Movement is a bit slow and too basic. Can't vault over objects, jump out of windows, etc
-No photo mode

Modding will make this game an all-time classic.

Holy shit the game's performance takes an absolute nosedive once you reach the first town. The only reason for this I can think of is the relatively high NPC count but damn.

Pros: it ran great up until now, the graphics are good, gunplay seems solid
Mid: the vibes aren't nearly as oppressive and depressing as the classic games, there's typical jank all over the place
Cons: The hunger is not fun, the grenade effect sucks, having to use bandages all the time kinda sucks, the day/night cycle moves too fast and abrupt, the story is lame and I absolutely hate the player character, the "eastern european guys talking with english accents" thing is terrible and a huge mistake

So far this is a crazy hard 7/10.

Also what is up with random enemies spawning right on top of you? Surely this is a bug? You're just walking around and out of nowhere like 6 dogs are all over you, it's so bizarre.

Excuse me, gentlemen, maybe I am blind as a bat, but what is the melee called in the PC remap screen? Want to change V to another button, I can't seem to locate that sneaky button?

Agreed. Movement feels wonky on the controller. Its hard to run in a straight line or aim smoothly. As you say, likely because there are no dead zones and it’s super sensitive as a result. It doesn’t feel great to be honest and could do with some tweaking.

I am on gamepass version (retail steam comes tomorrow) and the xone controller analog stick sensitivity is probably the most fucked I ever experienced in a videogame, feels flatout broken

And that goes for both sticks, aiming AND walking

Check display option, there's some weird setting that makes you choose between gamma based on monitors and tv's or something. Never seen that option before.

Maybe switching that one helps.

Looking at his playthrough made me realize the game is way too dark on my monitor screen. I know it's not the gamma.

Yes, you need to make sure it's on sRGB in the Image Encoding option under the Display menu.

By default it's on the TV setting which made the game way too dark.

First impressions - it looks like Shadow of Chernobyl with ULTRA HD TEXTURES MOD PACK.

It's buggy, janky and I feel like the old game (SoC) had better atmosphere and writing. But let's see if it improves on that front. Not gonna drop it yet but I'm slightly disappointed.

"Series S runs great but Series X should be running better"

Series X runs the game fine for me so far, though I’m on Quality mode so I can take full advantage of the hardware and graphics.

First impressions about 15 minutes in: This definitely is one of THE best looking games of the generation, hands down. They squeezed every bit of fidelity out of this monster, and I can tell why you’d need a beefy rig to properly max out the visuals. That’s without lumen even being here yet. Series X is holding its own really well and is absolutely churning the game out. The IQ and detail are both absolutely stunning, as well as the lighting thus far. I don’t know if they’re using proper RT on SX, but some of the reflections in puddles certainly look like it.

I can’t speak on the English dub, seeing as I’m using the native language with subtitles, but the performances in that facet are really good so far. Still haven’t even begun to scratch the surface yet, but so far so good! No egregious performance issues, seems to running solidly at 30fps, and haven’t had any crashes.

I’m liking it , never got into the originals so this is my real first entry into the series. My performance seems to be about around 100fps with a 4080 super and 7800x3d with DLSS and frame gen. My only gripe that’s been pissing me tf off is the stealth. It’s middle of night, I have no flashlight on yet people can easily see me from far away. I can’t even sneak behind people because somehow they see me .

Do you have a tone of stuff on you? I heard your weight can affect your stealth.

I learned this from reading a Steam review. Didn't believe it at first so read another few thousand reviews which said the same thing so I guess it's true.

i was in the yellow when the first encounter of seeing me happened but the 2nd encounter of sneaking behind people I had nothing. But hearing that weight affects it pisses me off even more now 😂

Ran at mostly 60 on all epic in 1440p and DLSS performance (still looks good on 1080p plasma) and then I arrived to the first settlement (Zalissia or whatever) and framerate dives into 40s.

On 5800X3D and 3080Ti.

Yeah this game needed more time to cook :(
Performance and controls are not great.

The impressions from people who didn't know what to expect are rolling in. Honestly, it is the most assuring review content I've seen. I'm becoming more comforted that they didn't ham it up. Xbros, you might be in for a rough go of things for a year or so. Assuming you cannot appreciate a little primo Eastern European Jankware. It will be worth it.

I mean, they are not perfect ( i admit it was a strong word on my part) but i had much worse in the past so i can't really complain too much.

The game already crashed 3 times tho.

I can't think of any worse. Ghostwire Tokyo was also dogshit and not as bad as this (and it was fixable through ingame settings, which seems impossible here).
