Saints Row 4 Re-Elected/Gat Out Of Hell Review Thread

For those talking about SR getting back to its roots

I think the issue is, the developer has been so limited by budget due to all the financial problems back with THQ before the Deep SIlver deal.

GTA V was what 5 years, plus another year for the next generation consoles, most likely the highest ever budget for a videogame collectively, and its a masterpiece.

There just isnt a way for Volition to compete with that given the budget and time limitations imposed by the publishers they work for.

Thats why I think they went in this crazy direction, since it lets them produce something that doesnt compare directly - otherwise it would be a terrible comparison due to the massive budget/time limits.

A little bit later than everyone else, but our Gat Out of Hell review is live:

Gat Out of Hell provides a few more hours of fun for those who adored Saints Row IV, but it'll quickly outstay its welcome if you aren't down with the gang. It'll also prove to be a confusing and bogus journey for newcomers, so we recommend grabbing the full package on the PS4 if you're not even sure who Johnny Gat is. With entertaining powers and some great new weapons, the standalone expansion holds its own – but don't expect your otherworldly vacation to be anything more than a quick and familiar break.

Saints Row 2 was nothing like GTA, though. Maybe SA, but even then SR was distinctly different. They could still be outlandish while being somewhat grounded in reality. They just got lots of praise for being dramatically different than GTA that they decided to embrace it and push even further in the opposite direction. Not a bad decision considering its helped the series get and stay popular, but it's such a weird turn that the first two games are like a totally different series. It just kind of sucks because with the way the series is now, you probably won't see Fuzz again. They had great ideas with the multiplayer that would probably be huge hits now, but there's no room for protect the pimp in a series that has one of its characters go to hell. Idk.

Right, THQ was in good shape back when SR was developed and same with SR2

Thats why, to me, SR2 had the most interesting city because it was so detailed (at the time) and varied.

Although I really enjoyed the gameplay of SR3 I was disappointed that the city, though large, had very heavy use of copy/paste buildings. To me I would have preferred a smaller more varied city. GTA V has amazing detail and variation in areas and houses, but that shows what a huge budget and development team can do.

Isn't this thread title wrong? These reviews are only about the expansion if I'm reading correctly in most of them. They don't cover the remaster for a lot of the scores.

I platinumd this on PS3 and I'm tempted to buy it again with GAOH on PS4

There's a £25 SR4 for PS4 on PSN but that probably doesn't include GAOH right?
