Gutting the fire department’s funding at such a scale is unacceptable in any circumstance, and I hope she sees jail time for what she has done. I’d love to see where she redirected those funds.
Greusom alerted insurance companies to his planned arson to get rid of the rich houses to make room for more homeless encampments.
No. They had the foresight to read the room before wild fire season began analyzing the budget cuts and lack of historical preventative measures by the those in charge on a federal, state, and municipal levels. So the fire insurance companies were conspiring with the homeless people?
I think she's seeing a vacation right now.Gutting the fire department’s funding at such a scale is unacceptable in any circumstance, and I hope she sees jail time for what she has done.
This is a problem because capitalism ran unchecked for to long, not DEI hires or Mexican illegal "aliens". Will become much worse for you guys with the new government, hell bend on turbocharging capitalism for the benefit of the rich and powerful.Feels like maybe corporations should be beholden to all stakeholders again, and not just shareholders.
Gotta cancel insurance for the shareholder, gotta cut safety costs as a power company for the shareholder, gotta suck up all that low cost water as a giant ag company shipping alfalfa to Saudi Arabia for the shareholder...
And then everyone else gets stuck with Flint, MI water quality, $1,000 per kWh electricity in frozen Texas, and uninsured homes in Florida and California.
The old government was at the benefit of their rich and powerful too. One thing both parties can agree on, and that's enriching themselves and their donors. This is a problem because capitalism ran unchecked for to long, not DEI hires or Mexican illegal "aliens". Never said otherwise, just that it's going to get even worse. The old government was at the benefit of their rich and powerful too. One thing both parties can agree on, and that's enriching themselves and their donors.
I’ve been going through documents because I am interested in the truth, and the gist of it is that L.A. is fucked. The city was already slowly crawling towards bankruptcy. They’re trying to solve problems the city literally cannot afford. Now with this wildfire? Jesus Christ. I mean, this city is supposed to host the 2028 Olympics? With what money? That is THE question.
meritocracy was never a thing. They inspect the hydrants often (at least they're supposed to) especially going into the wildfire dry season, and report that to the proper utilities.
That should be the number one issue in the mission statement, not dIvErSiTy.
If they're dry, make a stink about it. Post it as your mission statement. How many more examples do we need before we wake up to all these systems everywhere breaking down the past 4 to 6 years since meritocracy took a backseat?
That, and the federal oversight controlled burns and pruning have been either denied or not been done at all the past 4 years as well. It's like they want us to suffer.
Lots of land just freed up for Olympic planning. *adjusts tinfoil*I mean, this city is supposed to host the 2028 Olympics? With what money?

Get the fuck out of California.
It's inevitable.
So do you think “1 California training program” (what the article on the left is about) is somehow responsible for the data on the right?
Seems way more reasonable to think it’s what the article on the right is talking about… the increase in danger / deaths / sickness while pay remains absolutely dogsht.
Yes.
Mission accomplished
Why does a fire department need an Equity and Human Resources Bureau? Never heard of a fire department needing something like that. That's not the complete leadership team.
The two women next to the fire chief are the Training and Support Bureau Commander and the head of the Equity and Human Resources Bureau. But the complete leadership team has nine men too.
It’s pretty dumb. Why does a fire department need an Equity and Human Resources Bureau? Never heard of a fire department needing something like that.
Yeah, lack of firefighters is a problem, and a bloated bureaucracy certainly doesn't help pay for them. I can't imagine all the red tape and paperwork it takes to be a fire fighter in California. It’s pretty dumb.
Now is it smart to do outreach to communities that aren’t typically signing up to be firefighters during a shortage?
I would think so. However I also don’t think the LAFD is the issue here it’s a lack of wildfire firefighters who handle these massive out of control blazes. And the reason for shortages there is pretty obvious. A crazy decade of fire seasons caused many to quit / get sick or die, and lack of pay isn’t exactly helping replace those folks let alone grow those squads or whatever they call them.
Considering the increasing importance hopefully this disaster has a silver lining in that we properly fund for this. Bunch of rich people losing their homes should help cause a bigger uproar.

One can only hope, I doubt it, sadly, but I pray that I'm wrong. If you think about it in an RTS sense, California is the best piece of meat on the entire map. I'm wondering, why do the people who live there let crazy people run it? Cutting a fire department budget when you live in a tinderbox... If I'm this mayor lady I'm staying abroad. Maybe this can be a wakeup call to all of Cali.
I just hope people don't fall asleep thinking they are safe, and then never wake up again. Get out now. There are now five wildfires raging. For context, per the LA county fire chief, they only have the capacity to handle two simultaneously.
Some people in here are blaming "bums"This is heartbreaking... is this being linked to arson at all by any legitimate news sources?
