Target Earth is tough as nails. It's also a really great Genesis game that people overlook because of its box art.

One of my favorite (Mega Drive) games of all time - and one of the most underappreciated games of all time:...what's a Genesis???
Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master

Beautiful, diversified, challenging...this game is just amazing! Still one of the best looking games of the 16 bit era!

I just bought a PAL Sega Megadrive Model 1 High Definition Graphics with switchless region mod, 4 controllers and a RGB cable for less than 50 from Marktplaats (kinda like a Dutch version of Craigslist). I never owned a Sega MD, any suggestions on what games I should get? Games can be from any region and has to be affordable. I'm definitely going to pick up Sonic 1/2/3/&Knuckles and Alien Soldier at some point (Alien Soldier will most likely be a repro because I cannot afford the ridiculous prices of a legitimate cart).

Oh the same game! Is it good? I've never heard of it before. I should try it out sometime. I just tried out a few games and they worked great. It's weird playing Lunar SS though as I'm so used to the Saturn version(s).smbu2000 - what a sexy haul that is! good work man, and coincidentally my batch includes Rise of the Dragon as well, didn't take the chance i had prior to play it but i've heard great things

No one mentiones Ranger X?
Wow... I had no idea that M.U.S.H.A had appreciated in value so much. I got mine for like $9.99 years ago. It's complete, so looks like a minimum of $200 today. Insanity.bought myself an s-video modded genesis model 1 with sega-cd, power converter and a ton of games for my birthday last week! feels good, man.
now to just grab an arcade power stick (god i loved that thing) and keep an eye out for my list of games on the cheap, hopefully in a lot but several of them only show up on ebay by themselves. speaking of, from the SHMUP category, i had no idea MUSHA went for as much as it did! shit's heartbreaking; in the day, my friend's dad was huge on that genre and i'd play the shit out of that and some thunder force.
always kinda weird to me that this system was such a home to the genre's classics, yet somehow R-type got left out, despite being on the master system.
It's an EA franchise for crying out loud, surprised they haven't tried to revive it in some way.
Same thing with Mutant League Football/Hockey

I really need to value my entire games collection sometime...
I do not like that CD games are region protected. I've got a copy of JPN Fatal Fury Special that I cannot play. The 13 Mega CD games I bought for 1,500 yen (shipped) showed up today! All of the CDs are in superb condition (not a scratch on them!) and they all include the spine cards, very nice. (not sure why the MK one is stuck onto the cd case with some adhesive...)
Anyway, some of them don't look very good, but the 3 games I wanted from this lot; Cosmic Fantasy Stories, Lunar: SS, and Urusei Yatsura (also made by Game Arts!), are nice and the others were just a nice bonus I can try out.
Well, seeing as you actually own it, surely there's a way of making a backup ROM image, tweaking the region encoding, and burning a copy that'd work in a US Sega CD or EU Mega CD? I know this is possible for the Saturn (at least, a Saturn that can read backups, either via modding or the swap trick). Since you'd be the one providing the source material, the one doing all the backups and modifications, and the only one intended to get the end product, I don't think this violates any laws.I do not like that CD games are region protected. Actually... I probably haven't.Have you not posted on any retro forums in, like, five years? LOL. I mean, seriously, it's been the talk of the town for a while.![]()

Yeah, I did a bit of reading on the matter, but I'm too lazy to do that kind of thing. I just want it to work, like the Turbo Duo. =)Well, seeing as you actually own it, surely there's a way of making a backup ROM image, tweaking the region encoding, and burning a copy that'd work in a US Sega CD or EU Mega CD? M.U.S.H.A is one of my all time favorite shooters. I bought it from Electronics Boutique back in 1991 or so and still have it.
I may need to shove it on eBay. Crazy.
Was there any commotion over it back in the day? It's such a big thing now, were people talking about it at all in 1991, was it super obscure, etc?
Isn't Musha Aleste available on Wii VC, anyway? If so, it's crazy that a game could be so readily available and still command such prices.
It was known as a very good shooter and the print run was small because it was one shooter among many on Genesis at the time. The Genesis was overwhelmed with shooters at that time, to the point that some got left in Japan only because there were so many available already. Was there any commotion over it back in the day? One game I haven't heard mention of yet is Taz-Mania. It's not the greatest game - the hit detection is pretty spotty - but I remember being pretty impressed at the graphics and animation. I was a big fan of the Taz character when I was younger so this was a must-get.

Yeah, I don't like that either. My Mega Drive and Mega CD are both JP models, so I can play all the games I bought just fine. I can play Genesis games on it as well since the MD has a region mod, but that still won't let me play Sega CD games... -_-I do not like that CD games are region protected. I've got a copy of JPN Fatal Fury Special that I cannot play.
Agreed. It's one of those games that I bought because of the cover. I loved the big sprites and the main character of course. It probably wouldn't be considered a good game today, but I played it a lot as a kid.One game I haven't heard mention of yet is Taz-Mania. Did they actually release a censored version of Mystic Defender? That I didn't know. I wouldn't have thought it sold enough copies to warrant a re-release.I haven't read through this obviously glorious thread so I'll go ahead and mention Mystic Defender as one of the best--and most overlooked--action platformers of the 16bit era. It was my first Genesis game and will forever hold a special place in my gaming heart. I was lucky enough to have snagged the uncensored version as well (which reminds me I was also fortunate to have played Revenge Of Shinobi with Spidey/Batman etc.)

If you have a CD burner, getting around region lock on a Sega CD is trivially easy.I do not like that CD games are region protected. I've got a copy of JPN Fatal Fury Special that I cannot play.
Anyhow, does anyone know how the X'eye's audio compares to the HDG Genesis? I have (I beleive) the very first US model, though it's in storage right now, and the only thing stopping me from pulling it out is that my Sega CD would overheat after about 40 minutes to 1 hour of play (it's a model 1) I also have an X'eye, and I love the thing to death, but I can't find any info on its audio chip and how it compares. Also, does anyone have any ideas on where I could get a replacement AC adapter for the thing?
